Vision and Vision Care

Hi,

this is a topic we do not see much information on but many suffer with various problems and have varied experiences which can be shared. I am copying post from another thread and we can continue here.

The last thing I would want to talk about is vision. I know already that I am facing AMD in the future.

I only pray that new technology will come before it gets to the point that I cannot see or that I leave this earth before then.

My mom has had floaters and flashers and has been to several doctors--nothing major yet, but my good friend's husband had two detached/partially detached retinas after seeing floaters and flashers.

Curt--I've worn glasses since grade 5 and contacts since grade 6, and the contacts have kept my eyes from progressing to the point my mom's are (she didn't get contacts until her teens). My cousin's daughter started wearing the same kind of contacts (RGP) in 2nd grade to keep the change from being as bad. Hers won't even get as bad as mine!

From what my eye doctor told me floaters are benign and cause no harm, but flashers can, so I suspect your friend problem was caused or was affected by the flashers.

The interesting things about floaters is that do not know what causes them, they just seem to happen to certain people whether they are healthy or not.

Interesting.

If that amount suddenly multiplies, big deal. And yes, flashers indicate tearing in the retina wall and should be dealt with immediately.

She actually was able to put down her glasses after many years of use and has not used them for years now. I beleive it is the diet and lifestyle and the glasses may have helped to exercise her eyes.

I have been doing so many hours of computer work over the past few years and I strongly believe it has affected my sight. I had great eyesight, distance near or far was not a problem. I would be driving and read a sign over a hundred feet away. Now, iy is a completely different story and I looking at eye exercise programs together with certain recommendations for working with computers.
I guess my sight was so good that I took the load of work and strain for granted.

I will open a new topic for discussion on eyesight.

The question is :
What can we do to keep our eyesight healthy?

As one article stated, to have 20/20 vision to see an object and read it clearly at 20 feet is nice but what about being able to read and clearly right in front of your face? To make out objects and recognize them. To be able to focus quickly as you move the head and eyes.

Does anyone have any information on eye exercises? What kind and how much do they help?

Hi Brother Curt:

Do not know just know that today was a blessing at my eye doctor visit.

He had said a month ago that there was some slight indication of pressure in my eyes and could be heading to glucoma, but the test today said my eyes were normal.

Now all I have to concern myself with is the AMD and cataracts that are showing tell tail signs on the edges of my eyes.

How precious is our sight. Wow what a thought for me to be both deaf and blind.

There was a woman named Helen Keller who was both blind and deaf due to an illness in her early childhood.

Her parents had the money and the means to get the best help for her and through Ann Sullivan was able to reach into that dark world and draw a mind that did many great things in her life.

When I went to visit my friends in Georgia we went to her estate that shows the home and it was much smaller than the movies that had been made of her when Ann Sullivan came into her life.

There are many forms of communication and signing and braille have done much to open up their world with either or both senses being lost.

Hi Curt:

Here is a site that shares the simple method of eye exercises. The nice part about this is that it can be done at work or home whenever one feels they need it, but all of us should do it on a regular bases.
http://www.stretchnow.com.au/exercises/eyes.htm

If I can find any others I will let you know that does not take the yoga, etc., types of holistic methods.

Hi Curt:

Here is another site that is quite interesting.

http://www.vision3d.com/exercise.html

They have a simple 3D exercise you can do at the gallary. Looking at an object far away one puts there index fingers in front of their eyes. Keeping their eyes at the far object pulling the fingers apart one will see a little frankfort in front of their eyes and when one wiggles the fingers they middle little frankfort dances.

You need to put your fingers at a distance for this to work.
