More than 20 Italian oil company employees were killed Friday when their plane crashed just after takeoff from a Pakistan airport.

The pilot of the Pakistani charter plane, owned by JS Air, reported engine trouble just before going down near a residential and military area of the Gulistan-e-Jauhar suburb of Karachi, Pervez George, a spokesman for the country's civil aviation authority said.

"When it took off, just after one minute, the pilot contacted the control tower saying that there was a fault in one of the engines. He was asked to return, but as it was turning back, it crashed," George told News Wire Services.

It's reported that there were 19 passengers and two crew members aboard, and just 12 bodies have been recovered so far.
