The Desire of Ages / Re: The Desire of Ages--7--As a Child

  Every child may gain knowledge as Jesus did. As we try to become acquainted with our heavenly Father through His word, angels will draw near, our minds will be strengthened, our characters will be elevated and refined. We shall become more like our Saviour. And as we behold the beautiful and grand in nature, our affections go out after God. While the spirit is awed, the soul is invigorated by coming in contact with the Infinite through His works. Communion with God through prayer develops the mental and moral faculties, and the spiritual powers strengthen as we cultivate thoughts upon spiritual things.

Not wanting to start yet another thread on the Sabbath, I've decided to post this here. I ran across this video recently. What happens when an honest searching soul starts looking into the Sabbath? Find out for yourself...

The Desire of Ages / Re: The Desire of Ages--6--We Have Seen His Star

Others were upright men who studied the indications of Providence in nature, and who were honored for their integrity and wisdom. Of this character were the wise men who came to Jesus.

While this may not be an exact fit, while reading this I was reminded of the following verse.

Romans 2:14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

Now pride and envy closed the door against the light. If the reports brought by the shepherds and the wise men were credited, they would place the priests and rabbis in a most unenviable position, disproving their claim to be the exponents of the truth of God. These learned teachers would not stoop to be instructed by those whom they termed heathen. It could not be, they said, that God had passed them by, to communicate with ignorant shepherds or uncircumcised Gentiles. They determined to show their contempt for the reports that were exciting King Herod and all Jerusalem. They would not even go to Bethlehem to see whether these things were so. And they led the people to regard the interest in Jesus as a fanatical excitement. Here began the rejection of Christ by the priests and rabbis. From this point their pride and stubbornness grew into a settled hatred of the Saviour. While God was opening the door to the Gentiles, the Jewish leaders were closing the door to themselves.

As I read these words this morning I couldn't help but make comparisons to today's thinking among many of God's people. When truth that shows up sin is spoken of many ears close shut for if we say anything about living without sinning a known sin we hear; legalism! works! and the same when the word obey comes up. And don't ever mention God's justice. How did we get here? It's a slippery slope that we are all in danger of if we are not living by the word of God.

Amen Pastor Sean!! Jesus does indeed give to all who love Him with the whole heart a work to do. What joy is ours as we seek to find those who want to know the truth. Those who continue to reject the truth will bring suffering upon themselves in this world and they will lose the opportunity to live in a world without sin.

     Soldiers were at once sent to Bethlehem, with orders to put to death all the children of two years and under. The quiet homes of the city of David witnessed those scenes of horror that, six hundred years before, had been opened to the prophet. "In Ramah was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not."
     This calamity the Jews had brought upon themselves. If they had been walking in faithfulness and humility before God, He would in a signal manner have made the wrath of the king harmless to them. But they had separated themselves from God by their sins, and had rejected the Holy Spirit, which was their only shield. They had not studied the Scriptures with a desire to conform to the will of God. They had searched for prophecies which could be interpreted to exalt themselves, and to show how God despised all other nations. It was their proud boast that the Messiah was to come as a king, conquering His enemies, and treading down the heathen in His wrath. Thus they had excited the hatred of their rulers. Through their misrepresentation of Christ's mission, Satan had purposed to compass the destruction of the Saviour; but instead of this, it returned upon their own heads.

Good to see your post. We have missed you. Any chance you will be heading back  to Papua New Ginea soon? We continue to pray for you and Joella.

Praise the Lord for God's protection so we can fulfill the mission He gave us! Let us realize and appreciate the angels' involvement in our lives!

"He commissioned angels to attend Jesus and protect Him till He should accomplish His mission on earth, and die by the hands of those whom He came to save." {The Desire of Ages, page 67, paragraph 1}

God has a special ministry plan for each of us. While we may not die like Jesus on a literal cross, we are all called to be crucified with Him so that our fallen nature is kept in total surrender to the Holy Spirit! We can trust that God will direct us in the path that is best to further His eternal kingdom's establishment in this world (which starts in the hearts of people) in preparation for Christ's glorious second coming! All of the fruits of the Spirit without one missing are the sure evidence of Christ living in us, the hope of glory!

The whole treasury of heaven is open to those He seeks to save. Having collected the riches of the universe, and laid open the resources of infinite power, He gives them all into the hands of Christ, and says, All these are for man. Use these gifts to convince him that there is no love greater than Mine in earth or heaven. His greatest happiness will be found in loving Me.

Oh what manner the love that has been bestowed upon us.!

The offerings presented to the Lord were to be without blemish. These offerings represented Christ, and from this it is evident that Jesus Himself was free from physical deformity. He was the "lamb without blemish and without spot." 1 Peter 1:19. His physical structure was not marred by any defect; His body was strong and healthy. And throughout His lifetime He lived in conformity to nature's laws. Physically as well as spiritually, He was an example of what God designed all humanity to be through obedience to His laws.

We too may live in conformity to nature's laws. There would be so much less sickness and suffering if that was the case. But even if we have failed in doing God's will it is not too late to make decided changes and He will renew us both spiritually and physically. We may need to live with some of the consequences our past lifestyle created but we will have new desires, motives and a peaceful rest because Jesus is now our guide and commander. In His sight we are perfect because we have repented and are covered with the righteousness of Christ.
