Why Did Jesus Suffer?

(1/9) > >>

Richard Myers:
Before Jesus died, He suffered greatly. Did He have to suffer and if so, why?

JimB:
I'm not completely sure that the suffering was needed part. However, if He hadn't suffered I think it would look questionable as to whether or not He was actually bearing the sins of the world. Along with sin usually comes guilt and it weighs heavily on one's shoulders. That is why there is a sweet release once sins have been confessed.

Sister Marie:
Jesus had to suffer. Satan for one would make sure of it. But Jesus was to suffer far more than we ever could. He could not bear loving us without great suffering due to our condition. And He could not bear the sins of the world and not suffer greatly. Oh yes, Jesus had to suffer, and He knew it before He ever left heaven. But He came anyway because of His great love for us. Praise His Name for His love.------------------

Richard Myers:
We know that those who do not accept a new life will not enter heaven, but is that all? Will they just cease to exist, or will they be raised from the dead and receive according to their sins? Does the Bible give us any light in this area? And if so, does this reflect on the sufferings of Christ?

JimB:
quote:Joh 5:28  Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
Joh 5:29  And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.Mat 23:14  Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation. Luk 20:47  Which devour widows' houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation. Luk 12:47  And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. Luk 17:2  It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. I believe these verses show that those who did not accept the new life will be raised to recieve their just reward. It also appears that there are different degrees of punishment. Which in my eyes is evident of a just and fair God. [This message has been edited by JimB (edited 10-16-2003).]
