Speaing of moaning and groaning, here's my major crisis:  my faithful computer repairman and problem solver has moved away and taken a job as keeping the computers at Bath Iron Works functioning properly.  Aargh!  I can only hope that my son's skills in computer trouble shooting will improve, or that I can find someone else who can do the job.  I am pretty dependent on that machine at my business.  I guess I should be thankful that I don't have to do my payroll the old fashioned way--by hand, looking up stuff in government booklets.  I am thankful for Quickbooks.

Ah, good point.  I hadn't thought of that.  Thanks.

Quickbooks!?! I don't even know how to do a basic spreadsheet. And guess what? There's no "Spreadsheets for Dummies" either. The closest I could find was one for Excel, which I don't have. So this spreadsheet dummy can't even get any help from the dummy experts.  :-\ Why doesn't someone realize that there are real dummies out here that need the absolute basics? ???

If I can create twelve-month cashflow spreadsheets on Excel, anyone can. Before I left the working-for-someone-else world, I was forced into it and now cannot live without it.

If you ever get Excel, let me know and I will walk you through it.  ;)

Don't feel bad, I don't know how to do a spreadsheet, either, but Quickbooks is pretty easy.  If you can balance a checkbook, you can do Quickbooks.  But the beauty of it is--it does the calculations for you.  All you have to do is hit the right keys. ;D

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to discuss this, but I suppose it could come under the heading of "moaning and groaning."

Lately when I try to log on I will often (not every time) get the message:  incorrect password.  So, I type the same thing again, and it works.  Anyone have any idea what's going on?  If it happened just once or twice I'd chalk up to bad typing, but it happens nearly every day.

That happens occasionally. I had problems with the top log-in section - so now I consistently log in at the bottom.

Good idea.  I've got nothing to hide.  And I don't know of anyone who would try to sneak in and use my computer to post strange doctrine.

Moaaaning and groaning? Yes I am all for it. I video the church services and puit them on DVd for themembers of our church that are not able to get out. Anytime I try to do work for God on my computer, the Devil takes it over. I fina;;y bought a new computer and vowed to never go online with it. It is used only for my video programs and is working fine. God has blest this computer. I use my old one for internet. They can be frustrating at times.

Well, Amen, Ernie - and welcome to the forum. We have some "super geeks" here who understand all the ins and outs of computers and their strange behavior. I just stopped short of tossing mine over the side of the roof last week.  ::)

God bless you for making those DVDs for shut-ins. I know they are an incredible blessing to them!

I get frustrated also with my computer. Someone gave me this laptop. I found out why after I opened it up. They had dropped it, and the screen is all "spider webbed." Also, when the fan comes on when the computer warms up, the high speed on broad band slows down slower than that of dial up. Then I have to restart it, then it is fine for a few hours. ???

Computers!! Where would we be without them!! But, won't we love it in heaven where there are no computers or cars!!

Yes, welcome Brother Ernie! Good to have you online with us. I also do video work and will not put my video computer online for very long. It is a risk, but I do go online to get updates for my OS, virus, and spyware programs. It was a blessing when at last my old win 98 PIII broke and I began using my video computer online!!  Of course I replaced the video computer with a new one. I enjoy buying the parts and putting them together. Every once and awhile God blesses and things go smoothly!!  :)

Quick Books!
It has a problem no one know what to do.   I have been using Quick Books many a years for my payroll and other things.  Some times, pay a bill and print out the check.  It goes into the check book register, but nowhere else I can find it in the reports section. As far as the report goes I did not pay the bill to this vendor.

I think you can solve a lot of computer problems by googling.  I found very useful.  There are a lot of able people who are eager to share their knowledge.

Won is right. There is a lot of help on the net, and when the moaning and groaning aren't solving the problem, I usually end up at Tech Support Guy. Help for just about any computer problem you can imagine.

From yesterday afternoon to the present I am moaning and groaning with various problems.  >:(  Our ISP installed more bandwidth over the weekend and my computer has been slower than ever. Dialup was faster than this. While attempting a download the speed actually dropped to 7 kb/sec! Can you imagine?

When that happens, connections get interrupted, time-outs flash, post data can be triplicated by repeated attempts to post or send a message! And forget even trying to preview a post! ARGH!

Now I have noticed most new videos online REQUIRE Adobe Flash! It caused more problems with Firefox than I care to mention. Between Flash and Script blocking, I have about gone insane! Granted, safety on the web is important, but at what cost? ARGH!

THEN! ... in the midst of all of that, Stopzilla began a scan! I was so locked up and locked out I could have screamed! In the past I have been sold on Stopzilla, but finally decided to replace it with AVG again, so I did that last night and it took until midnight to get it accomplished downloading at 7 kb/sec! ARGH again!

Now, I learn our wireless ISP is out of kilter. We had incredible winds yesterday and "several" relay antennas just to get the signal to my house are in need of attention today. So the bandwidth we are getting is sporadic at best and well suited to drive old women to do things they would not otherwise do!

I hate computers! I love computers!

So you guys have fun today. I will not be back on until I get a call from Mr. ISP man saying all is repaired.  ;)

I can understand the frustration. Computers are like cars.... they are wonderful tools until they stop working properly :(

I have both "flashblock" and "noscript" running so I understand your frustration with those. They can make life difficult on some webpages.

You could always go back to dial-up   ;)

We'll still be here when you get back. See you then!
