"Through the wise men, God had called the attention of the Jewish nation to the birth of His Son. Their inquiries in Jerusalem, the popular interest excited, and even the jealousy of Herod, which compelled the attention of the priests and rabbis, directed minds to the prophecies concerning the Messiah, and to the great event that had just taken place."

It's interesting that the star rested over Jerusalem when Jesus was actually in Bethlehem. In this short paragraph we read that God used this stop as a way to draw the Jewish nation back to searching the scriptures for truth. With the inquiries of the Magi all attention was drawn to the prophecies where the leaders and teachers would find that their long awaited Messiah had arrived and they could rejoice in this knowledge surrendering their hearts along with the errors and traditions they clung to and accepting Him as their Lord and Saviour. I continually marvel at the length and breadth that God goes to, to bring us into harmony with Him. We must decide who we will serve. God or tradition.
But this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press  toward the mark. Phil. 3:13,14

Amen, Brother Beacon and Sister Dorine!!

What a generous God we have in giving us His Son to save us from all sin! Jesus was willing to be anything or nothing, and what a blessing of how the wise men gave their best to Jesus--even when He was but a little child!

"The magi had been among the first to welcome the Redeemer. Their gift was the first that was laid at His feet. And through that gift, what privilege of ministry was theirs! The offering from the heart that loves, God delights to honor, giving it highest efficiency in service for Him. If we have given our hearts to Jesus, we also shall bring our gifts to Him. Our gold and silver, our most precious earthly possessions, our highest mental and spiritual endowments, will be freely devoted to Him who loved us, and gave Himself for us." {The Desire of Ages, page 65, paragraph 2}

Jesus is able to convert us as we behold His loveliness of character, giving us a new heart a new mind imbued with all of the fruits of the Spirit without one missing. Such a converted witness through which Jesus can work is more valuable to Him than all the gold and the silver in this world, but when Christ is all in all to us, we count it a joy to give and live even as Jesus walked while upon this earth!
"When we live by faith on the Son of God, the fruits of the Spirit will be seen in our lives; not one will be missing." {The Desire of Ages, 676.4}

"Satan was bent on shutting out the divine light from the world, and he used his utmost cunning to destroy the Saviour. But He who never slumbers nor sleeps was watching over His beloved Son. He who had rained manna from heaven for Israel and had fed Elijah in the time of famine provided in a heathen land a refuge for Mary and the child Jesus. And through the gifts of the magi from a heathen country, the Lord supplied the means for the journey into Egypt and the sojourn in a land of strangers."

Just as God took special care of Joseph and Mary and His precious Son Jesus through dreadful circumstances he also takes care of His own today. We may take courage as we face difficult situations that the God who never sleeps or slumbers is working out His plan for our lives and if we could see beyond the curtain we would not choose a different way. May our trust in God be so settled that nothing we face will separate us from Him.
But this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press  toward the mark. Phil. 3:13,14

Amen Sister Dorine and Brother Beacon!  God will deal with His faithful in protecting them, and will allow Satan's efforts to fall on their heads as with Israel.

 Soldiers were at once sent to Bethlehem, with orders to put to death all the children of two years and under. The quiet homes of the city of David witnessed those scenes of horror that, six hundred years before, had been opened to the prophet. "In Ramah was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not."
     This calamity the Jews had brought upon themselves. If they had been walking in faithfulness and humility before God, He would in a signal manner have made the wrath of the king harmless to them. But they had separated themselves from God by their sins, and had rejected the Holy Spirit, which was their only shield. They had not studied the Scriptures with a desire to conform to the will of God. They had searched for prophecies which could be interpreted to exalt themselves, and to show how God despised all other nations. It was their proud boast that the Messiah was to come as a king, conquering His enemies, and treading down the heathen in His wrath. Thus they had excited the hatred of their rulers. Through their misrepresentation of Christ's mission, Satan had purposed to compass the destruction of the Saviour; but instead of this, it returned upon their own heads.
Jesus receives His reward when we reflect His character, the fruits of the Spirit......We deny Jesus His reward when we do not.

The light of God is ever shining amid the darkness of heathenism. As these magi studied the starry heavens, and sought to fathom the mystery hidden in their bright paths, they beheld the glory of the Creator. Seeking clearer knowledge, they turned to the Hebrew Scriptures. In their own land were treasured prophetic writings that predicted the coming of a divine teacher. Balaam belonged to the magicians, though at one time a prophet of God; by the Holy Spirit he had foretold the prosperity of Israel and the appearing of the Messiah; and his prophecies had been handed down by tradition from century to century. But in the Old Testament the Saviour's advent was more clearly revealed. The magi learned with joy that His coming was near, and that the whole world was to be filled with a knowledge of the glory of the Lord.
     The wise men had seen a mysterious light in the heavens upon that night when the glory of God flooded the hills of Bethlehem. As the light faded, a luminous star appeared, and lingered in the sky. It was not a fixed star nor a planet, and the phenomenon excited the keenest interest. That star was a distant company of shining angels, but of this the wise men were ignorant. Yet they were impressed that the star was of special import to them. They consulted priests and philosophers, and searched the scrolls of the ancient records. The prophecy of Balaam had declared, "There shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Scepter shall rise out of Israel." Numbers 24:17. Could this strange star have been sent as a harbinger of the Promised One? The magi had welcomed the light of heaven-sent truth; now it was shed upon them in brighter rays. Through dreams they were instructed to go in search of the newborn Prince.

Amen Sister Dorine, brother Bacon, and Pastor Sean.

The wise men studied nature, and the word of God, as their knowledge of God and the coming Messiah was stored in their hearts/minds, they were drawn closer to God, and the Holy Spirit was able to act on their hearts, and they became bold inquiring as to the birth of the Messiah, so we should be spending time in devotions and study of God's word that it is hidden in our hearts and we have our hearts softened and attuned to the voice of the Holy Spirit and God's still small voice in our lives, and our faith will increase as we see God's working in our lives.

Amen, Remnant online family, to what you have shared!!

No matter how long until Jesus returns, we can have a happy journey if we are walking in the faith that works by love and purifies the soul so all of the fruits of the Spirit will be seen in our lives. As we let Jesus work out His plan for us, we can go wherever He leads us to go!

"As by faith Abraham went forth at the call of God, 'not knowing whither he went' (Hebrews 11:8); as by faith Israel followed the pillar of cloud to the Promised Land, so did these Gentiles go forth to find the promised Saviour. The Eastern country abounded in precious things, and the magi did not set out empty-handed. It was the custom to offer presents as an act of homage to princes or other personages of rank, and the richest gifts the land afforded were borne as an offering to Him in whom all the families of the earth were to be blessed. It was necessary to journey by night in order to keep the star in view; but the travelers beguiled the hours by repeating traditional sayings and prophetic utterances concerning the One they sought. At every pause for rest they searched the prophecies; and the conviction deepened that they were divinely guided. While they had the star before them as an outward sign, they had also the inward evidence of the Holy Spirit, which was impressing their hearts, and inspiring them with hope. The journey, though long, was a happy one to them." {The Desire of Ages, page 60, paragraph 2}

As the Holy Spirit leads us to follow God's plan for us, we may never know until we are in heaven how much was accomplished by the faith of Jesus working through us! The wise men who gave their gifts to Jesus in worship were used by God to actually finance the deliverance trip for Joseph, Mary and Jesus to make it to Egypt in safety with provision for the way! When we go and give as God prompts us, we are privileged to be co-laborers with Christ for the blessing of the world in Christ's plan to save all who will come unto God by Him! May we be in such union and communion with God today that He can fulfill His plan in and through us!
"When we live by faith on the Son of God, the fruits of the Spirit will be seen in our lives; not one will be missing." {The Desire of Ages, 676.4}

Praise the Lord that today we can choose to act in humble faith and surrender fully to Christ, appreciating the example of the wise men who came to worship Jesus!

"When they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary His mother, and fell down, and worshiped Him." Beneath the lowly guise of Jesus, they recognized the presence of Divinity. They gave their hearts to Him as their Saviour, and then poured out their gifts,--"gold, and frankincense, and myrrh." What a faith was theirs! It might have been said of the wise men from the East, as afterward of the Roman centurion, "I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel." Matthew 8:10.

Great faith is complete surrender to Christ in worship which brings us into possession of the traits of His divine nature--love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance! Not one of these traits of His divine nature will be missing when a complete surrender of the whole heart is made to Christ and we gladly follow where He leads us in obedience to His Ten Commandments, the declaration of dependence upon God for freedom from sin!
"When we live by faith on the Son of God, the fruits of the Spirit will be seen in our lives; not one will be missing." {The Desire of Ages, 676.4}

Now pride and envy closed the door against the light. If the reports brought by the shepherds and the wise men were credited, they would place the priests and rabbis in a most unenviable position, disproving their claim to be the exponents of the truth of God. These learned teachers would not stoop to be instructed by those whom they termed heathen. It could not be, they said, that God had passed them by, to communicate with ignorant shepherds or uncircumcised Gentiles. They determined to show their contempt for the reports that were exciting King Herod and all Jerusalem. They would not even go to Bethlehem to see whether these things were so. And they led the people to regard the interest in Jesus as a fanatical excitement. Here began the rejection of Christ by the priests and rabbis. From this point their pride and stubbornness grew into a settled hatred of the Saviour. While God was opening the door to the Gentiles, the Jewish leaders were closing the door to themselves.[/b]

Pride the first sin, Satan's first sin in heaven. Here we see how pride works, it closed the hearts and minds of the Priest, the religious leaders in Israel. God was opening the hearts of the Gentiles as they surrendered to God's calling and leading in their lives. The Jewish leaders through Prided were closing their hearts to God.
God was not closing their hearts to himself, they were, it was their choice what was happening in their lives. Are we surrendering our hearts to God or are we letting Pride step in front of our love for Jesus?

A shared comment from JimB...
We as a people, probably not on purpose, have a tendency sometimes to think that the Lord doesn't work with those outside of our denomination much less the "heathen". Reminds me of how the religious leaders were acting in this chapter. However, look at these supposedly heathen men. It says here that they gave their hearts to Him! He who was only a baby at the time. If you were there can you imagine yourself giving your heart to a baby. Especially one born in such unfavorable circumstances. Only by the guidance of the Spirit were these men able to do such a thing. Then with grateful hearts they gave the best they had.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let us never forget that our God has resources that He can employ when people who claim to be " His Own People " are asleep. But what a sad thing it is to contemplate that those who claim to he "His Children" may be lost because they are Christian in name only and have not made a full heart surrender to Jesus. May our prayer today be...ALL TO JESUS I SURRENDER -- ALL TO HIM I FREELY GIVE.

Look up and listen for the shout.

Amen!  Professing faith means nothing to God, He wants to give us saving faith that has no "unbelief!"

It is amazing as Brother Beacon has pointed out, that these men who were not Jews had been taught of God so that they understood a baby was King! Amazing!  So it would be today also. Many entrusted with the truth do not cherish it above all else.

  Such was the Saviour's reception when He came to the earth. There seemed to be no place of rest or safety for the infant Redeemer. God could not trust His beloved Son with men, even while carrying forward His work for their salvation. He commissioned angels to attend Jesus and protect Him till He should accomplish His mission on earth, and die by the hands of those whom He came to save.

How very sad! But, Jesus understood before He came what suffering He would endure, and He gladly took our sins upon Himself! Such love. And by that love we are healed.
Jesus receives His reward when we reflect His character, the fruits of the Spirit......We deny Jesus His reward when we do not.

When we truly behold Jesus and allow nothing to eclipse the loveliness of His character, we will be happy to be anything or nothing as His providence shall indicate! The magi were glad to give their best to Jesus! Let us go and do likewise as we respond to Christ's converting, sanctifying grace that enables sinners to become saints who reveal all of the fruits of the Spirit without one missing!

"The magi had been among the first to welcome the Redeemer. Their gift was the first that was laid at His feet. And through that gift, what privilege of ministry was theirs! As we let God have our best for His service, we will be the happiest knowing that for such a purpose were created--to glorify and honor God!

  The wise men from the East were philosophers. They belonged to a large and influential class that included men of noble birth, and comprised much of the wealth and learning of their nation. Among these were many who imposed on the credulity of the people. Others were upright men who studied the indications of Providence in nature, and who were honored for their integrity and wisdom. Of this character were the wise men who came to Jesus.
     The light of God is ever shining amid the darkness of heathenism. As these magi studied the starry heavens, and sought to fathom the mystery hidden in their bright paths, they beheld the glory of the Creator. But in the Old Testament the Saviour's advent was more clearly revealed. The magi learned with joy that His coming was near, and that the whole world was to be filled with a knowledge of the glory of the Lord.

The wise men were seeking the truth with open and humble hearts, and as the studied their hearts were opened more and more to Jesus, the Holy Spirit le them and more knowledge was given or opened to them. When we come with a surrendered heart to Jesus, and study to show ourselves approved unto God. He will open more and more knowledge and wisdom to us, as we use the knowledge He has give us.

They immediately made plans to go and What a blessing it was when they found Jesus laying in a very humble manger and yet they recognized His Divinity and presented their gifts. Little did they know at that time that God was using them to make provision for Josheh, Mary and Jesus to be able to flee to Eygpt.

Let never doubt how God leads, guides and provides for all those who are seeking and desiring to let their lives bring honor and glory to Him.

Is it not an amazing thing to know that God will work outside of His chosen people, even outside of those who call themselves Christians. In the world are those who are honestly seeking truth. Are we seeking them? Or do we think the heathen have no interest in truth?

  As by faith Abraham went forth at the call of God, "not knowing whither he went" (Hebrews 11:8 ) ; as by faith Israel followed the pillar of cloud to the Promised Land, so did these Gentiles go forth to find the promised Saviour. Amen, Brother Beacon!

When the magi came to worship Jesus, they gave Him their best! May we give Jesus our best--but how? First, we must look to His loveliness and let His divine character attract us to Him, surrender the whole heart to Him, and then we become partakers of the divine nature so we can have Him living in us and working through us His good works in tandem with all of the fruits of the Spirit without one missing! What joy comes to us when we let God move us by the Holy Spirit!

"The offering from the heart that loves, God delights to honor, giving it highest efficiency in service for Him. If we have given our hearts to Jesus, we also shall bring our gifts to Him. Our gold and silver, our most precious earthly possessions, our highest mental and spiritual endowments, will be freely devoted to Him who loved us, and gave Himself for us." {The Desire of Ages, page 65, paragraph 2}

The inevitable outflow of a truly converted heart is a desire to do our best for Jesus who gave ALL for us and left heaven to become helpless baby dependent upon peasant parents! What an incredible exchange! As we contemplate the infinite riches of God's grace, we come into possession of them as we abide in Jesus by the Holy Spirit. Today we can let the Lord guide us in His perfect plan for our lives!

May the words of this song... be Our Song for Jesus Today

Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise,

2
Take my hands, and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love;
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee,

3
Take my voice, and let me sing
Always, only, for my King;
Take my lips, and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee,

4
Take my silver and my gold;
Not a mite would I withhold;
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose,

5
Take my will, and make it Thine;
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart; it is Thine own;
It shall be Thy royal throne,

6
Take my love; my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure-store.
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee,

Happy Sabbath!!!  Amen, Brother Beacon!!

Where is the only safe place?

“There seemed to be no place of rest or safety for the infant Redeemer. God could not trust His beloved Son with men, even while carrying forward His work for their salvation. He commissioned angels to attend Jesus and protect Him till He should accomplish His mission on earth, and die by the hands of those whom He came to save.” {The Desire of Ages, page 67, paragraph 1}

Our safest place now and ever is to be in the center of God’s will, truly converted, and letting God lead us. We can trust His word fully! He will lead us as we let Him! All of the fruits of the Spirit without one missing will be manifest in the life fully surrendered to God in mind and heart, empowering us to affectionate obey God up to all the light of truth He has revealed to us!

As the Magi studied the truth they had, they were led to the inspired word of God, and God revealed the truth of the coming Messiah to them, they did not stop seeking and had the privilege of seeing the Messiah, giving Him gifts to sustain the family while in exile in Egypt. We need to have this same humble and seeking attitude in our walk with Jesus, daily surrendering to Him.
