Yahoo Messenger & Firefox
« on: March 26, 2007, 07:01:00 AM »
Hi Brother Jim:

A friend of mine wants me to download Yahoo Messenger so that we can chat real time. So I started to download and set it up and came through with some questions.

There were two requests that I off checked and it continued which were make Yahoo default browser and make Yahoo home page.

The setup let me continue and then I came across this box which said:

Set up to shut down firefox click yes or skip firefox installs click no.

I am not sure if this is just a temp shut down or permanent or what would happen if i skipped firefox installs.

I am afraid to do either as I do not want to have problems with not having firefox.

What do you think?

Good question. I recently installed yahoo messenger but I don't remember that question.

If Firefox was open it is very possible it needed to be shut down temporarily to do a proper install.

What I found out is there are older versions of the Yahoo Messenger that I downloaded that is only live typing chat, not the phone chat which I cannot do anyway due to my hearing impairment.

It did not ask for all those other things and was a lot easier to set up.

Thanks Jim for your help.

Within the past week, YIM has been knocking me offline. I connect to it through a proxy because it did not like my local connection after it updated. Having gone through the typical troubleshoots that did not correct the problem, I am at a loss. Any suggestions?

Okay, two days without the capability to IM, and the fact that nothing could repair my connection with YIM, I gave up on Yahoo. It just was not worth the time. So, it's back to reliable Pidgin. What a simple, uncomplicated app.

Pidgin has always treated me well. And if you have other chat accounts you can use them through pidgin also.

It is, Jim. It is so simple, so it is my reliable app, too.
