Every wonder why certain websites still know who you are even though you delete cookies and take other precautions? Well let me introduce you to something called "LSO". Which stands for "local shared objects". This is something Adobe's Flash uses and they are not deletable. :(  If you want a better explanation than I can give take a look at Wiki's entry for LSO

The good news is that if you use FireFox there is an add-on that can help deal with the situation. It's called "BetterPrivacy 1.29" You can find it here...

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6623

You can also somewhat control the content of LOS's by using Adobe's Website Storage Settings panel which can be found Here

I have been using that extension for a while and it is good. It does cause some problems, especially on multimedia sites like Youtube, but I would rather deal with some minor problems than allow a flash program to track me. I just installed Flash CS4 Pro and there are some really amazing things that can be done with it - and some very scary things if used by a nefarious individual.

Yes, it's true that some of the add-ons I've recommended will "break" websites when you visit them. This is true especially for the addon called "No Script".  But I'm with you... a little annoyance is worth the price.

Ok my privacy conscious friends. Ever wanted to be able to watch those who are watching you as you surf from one website to another? Well now you can with these two addons. They will actually tell how many and which (who) websites are tracking your browsing habits. Take a look for yourself. Be warned it might make you a little paranoid.

Back in reply #21 I talked about LSO's and a Firefox Addon to manage them. Well here is someone who does a much better job at explaining than I do LSO's and how they operate.

Okay - this is THE BEST add-on I have seen in a very long time!

PHOTOBUCKET ADD-ON!

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10035/

I am constantly in and out of Photobucket and this is a huge time saving tool.  After you install the add-on, Right click on image you want and wahlah ... you get an instant log-in to Photobucket and instant upload. This completely bypasses saving the photo and then uploading.

What a fabulous new add on. Bravo Firefox!

Ad Hacker and Ghostery are causing Firefox to crash lately. I have disabled them until I can discover why. Reports have been sent to Firefox but I wonder if there is something to be done? Am thinking of uninstalling and reinstalling them. WDYT? It seems the most obvious thing to do at the moment. Anyone else experiencing this? Of course, the fact that I downgraded back to Firefox/3.6.17 needs to be considered.

Your problem may be that when you installed FF4 that the add-ons were also upgraded. When you uninstalled, it may not have uninstalled the latest versions of the add-ons which probably incompatible with FF3.*. Hence, crash, crash.

Yeah, I believe that is it. I have made the necessary adjustments. So far, so good.

Forecastfox

I got a chance to play last week, and loaded this one. I have never had a weather forecast be accurate where we are but thought I'd give it a chance. Yesterday, it started to rain (Praise the Lord!) so I checked to see what the little icon showed - it at least showed gray clouds, so that was an improvement. A few minutes later it changed to the rain icon while we were experiencing a downpour to rival Sybil's recent experience, pea sized hail included, for more than an hour. Not that we are in an enclosed room and can't see what's happening outside, but now I know the weather service is reliable for what will happen tomorrow. Yesterday it said more rain late this afternoon and the clouds are rolling in. Nice add-on!  :)

;) I have come to rely on it. Thus far it is quite accurate on what is happening in my front yard.

In this same vein ... here is a Do Not Track for such things. Have you experience with it?

Once I had that installed but because I already had ghostery installed it never caught anything.

Ghostery does a very good job. I see Collusion did catch a couple Ghostery did not get. I want to keep Collusion a little while longer, though, just to test it out.
