GC Religious Liberty Leader Says Rome Has Changed
« on: March 04, 2025, 08:43:58 AM »
Has Rome really changed? Because one says something, does that make is true? Both Pagan Rome and Papal Rome slaughtered millions of Christians who would not give up their faith in God and His Word. When Rome today calls for Sunday laws, is this not an example of their refusal to practice religious liberty? Some at high positions in our church do not understand this. This causes a great divide within the church.

Popery is just what prophecy declared that she would be, the apostasy of the latter times. [2 Thessalonians 2:3, 4.] It is a part of her policy to assume the character which will best accomplish her purpose; but beneath the variable appearance of the chameleon, she conceals the invariable venom of the serpent. “We are not bound to keep faith and promises to heretics,” she declares. Shall this power, whose record for a thousand years is written in the blood of the saints, be now acknowledged as a part of the church of Christ?

It is not without reason that the claim has been put forth in Protestant countries, that Catholicism differs less widely from Protestantism than in former times. There has been a change; but the change is not in the papacy. Catholicism indeed resembles much of the Protestantism that now exists, because Protestantism has so greatly degenerated since the days of the reformers. GC88 571.

This is the religious liberty director of the Seventh-day Adventist World Church. He was recently re-elected. When asking the editor of Liberty Magazine if she knew about this, she said she did not. Now that she knows about this, does she have a responsibility to address this concern in Liberty Magazine? Has our religious liberty program gone a step too far?

Will the GC nominating committee offer this wayward leader another five years even though he will not preach the three angels' message and believes the enemy of God has changed. If Rome has changed then there is no need to preach the three angels' message. Let us pray that the nominating committee loves the Lord our God with the whole heart, thus they would not allow such to be in a leadership position. We do not unify unless we are united on truth. The Bible tells us so. Can two walk together, except they be agreed?" Amos 3:3.

Our prayers have been answered. The World Church has a new leader for Religious Liberty. Nelu Burcea was elected as the director of General Conference Public Affairs and Religious Liberty (PARL) for the 2025-2030 term. Elder Burcea, a religious freedom expert, will lead the global advocacy and church-state relations for the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He previously served as director of communication and PARL for the Adventist Church in Romania, as well as director of the Romanian Adventist Media Center. He also has experience leading evangelistic campaigns across Europe and the United States. The PARL department focuses on promoting and maintaining religious liberty, with a particular emphasis on liberty of conscience. This includes the right to choose or change one's religion, and to practice and express religious beliefs, while respecting the rights of others.
