Hurricane Harvey-Major Hurricane to Hit Texas Coast
« on: August 25, 2017, 10:16:48 AM »
Hurricane Harvey is a category 2 hurricane with winds at 110 mph. It will hit the Texas coast later tonight or early Sabbath morning. 111mph is a category 3 hurricane.  It is a major threat to life and property to the Texas coastal area and inland from major flooding caused by large amounts of rain from the slow moving hurricane. Rain amounts may hit up to 24" with some isolated areas getting 30" over the extended period. It is moving at 10 mph with sustained winds of 110 mph. At 11:00am CDT it was about 100 miles from Corpus Christi, Tex.

Harvey, a category 4 storm, came ashore with 130 mph winds and gusts at 160 mph. It is now classified as one of the most powerful storms to hit the U.S. It is the strongest storm to hit Texas since Carla in 1961 which was also a category 4. Instead of moving through in about 24 hrs. as these storms normally do, it is forecast to linger in this part of Texas until next Thur. or Fri. VERY unusual.

We are dodging the many tornadoes that a storm always slings off to the NE of its landing place and are receiving very heavy rains. Rain forecasts are now saying that we will have 50 in. to 60 in. of rain in the next few days. This storm is expected to cause billions of $ in damages. So far, only 1 confirmed dead but many are missing.

The End is coming very soon and Jesus will return to gather His people, but in the mean time, the earth will suffer more and greater calamities. Praise God...come soon LORD!!

Amen! Jesus is coming in just a little while! Thanks for the report Cop. You are in our prayers. Here is a statement from the National Hurricane Center regarding the rain, that could be at "historic levels."

"Our focus is shifting to the extreme and potentially historic levels of flooding that we could see," said Eric Blake, a specialist at the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

It is 3 am here and the rain is falling so heavy that it is hard to sleep. Tornadoes are dropping out of the sky so fast that the tv weather can not keep up with them. People are calling 911 from their attics and roofs begging for rescue. The U.S. Weather Service has just issued a "catastrophic" flood & flash flood warning. The weather folks are saying that there has never been such a thing as a 'catastrophic warning' issued before, that it is a completely new type of warning. Bayous and creeks are overflowing their banks and rivers are rising rapidly.

Police and rescue workers continue to plea with residents to stay indoors and not attempt to travel flooded roadways. Many roads are under water and police are asking people to stay off the roads. They are asking people to stay at home. There are going to be many lives lost from this storm. The weather service is warning that we may receive 60 inches of rain before this is over.

A couple of times on Sabbath, we received here 3 and 4 inches of rain in an hour. The weather reports are saying that some places have received 6 inches in less than an hour. Some places have already had 15 inches of rain fall. I've been through so many hurricanes that I can't remember them all. The first hurricane that I can remember was when I was 2 or 3 years old in 1953 or 1954. Its a way of life in this part of Texas but I have never experienced such a storm as this. We are expected to have 5 or 6 more days of this.

There is only one other couple, out of 300 members, that are native Texans in our church. For the last couple of days, we have had numerous calls from church members asking us what they are to do, how to prepare for a storm. Now I am telling that I have never seen such a storm as this and to pray.
My religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready, no matter when it may overtake me....That is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave."

Catastrophic rains were predicted, but it appears to be greater than expected, up to 50" of rain with record amounts already falling.

Up to 7" of rain in an hour being reported.  Many tornado warnings in and around Houston. Rain and flooding of epic proportions with more to come to Southern Texas. Harvey hit the coast at Rockport with 130 mph winds as a cat 4 hurricane. Damage was heavy where it hit, but this slow moving storm, now a tropical storm, is bringing catastrophic rain further inland that has stranded many who have been and are being rescued from epic flooding in the Houston area where up to 20" of rain has fallen.

The Seventh-day Adventist Churches in the Houston area appear to have escaped major damage and there are no reports of deaths or injuries among our church members. Some houses have been damaged by wind or flooding. We spoke with Pastor Pastor Rodney Garcia who pastors the Houston International Seventh-day Adventist Church who said his church had received some roof and rain damage, but was not flooded. He estimated there were around 40 Seventh-day Adventist Churches in the Houston area. His church members have been able to stay in contact through social media.

With continued heavy rain forecast the threat remains serious. Let us continue to pray for those in the middle of the storm.

This was tweeted by the NWS about 24 hours ago. I believe it's very telling that the NWS says.... This event is unprecedented & all impacts are unknown & beyond anything experienced.

"This was tweeted by the NWS about 24 hours ago. I believe it's very telling that the NWS says.... This event is unprecedented & all impacts are unknown & beyond anything experienced. "

Amen to that Brother Jim. Right now we have a break in the downpours that we have experinced the past few days. Here we have had 29.75 inches of rain. Many other places have received over 30 in. so far and forecasters are saying we can expect 12 to 20 inches more before this is over. Weather reports in the Houston area say there have been 154 tornadoes in the area since Fri. night when the storm went ashore.

As predicted, the storm is now drifting SE back to the Gulf. There will be some stregnthening when it returns to the warm waters. These storms love warm water...that is why it grew so powerfull in such a short period of time. Gulf water temps are 88 to 90 degrees right now. Though the forecasts are not too predictable, I am hoping that they are correct. They forecast that the storm will make landfall around Galveston and move NNE. If that is correct, it will pass directly over us here. That will be better fro us as the worst of the rains and tornadoes will move to the E of us. It will be worst for Texas E of us and Louisianna.

We haven't had very strong winds the past few days, but now they are increasing to tropical storm strength. We have had a few trees fall here, but have not lost power as yet. Now that the wind is picking up, I am worried that we will have more trees down due to the fact that the ground is saturated from all the rain. Then we will lose power.
Two TV stations in Houston went off the air yesterday due to rising water flowing into the upper floors of the buildings. Water is still rising in the bayous, creeks and rivers. Some are now 20 to 30 feet above historic levels and still rising. There  has never been anything like this before. People are trapped on the roofs of homes and apartment buildings. For the last three days, many trapped people have been calling TV and radio stations asking for rescue. 911 switchboards are swamped with more than 2000 calls holding. People in the Houston area who have boats are assisting the police and military in rescues.

Freeways are covered with 20 to 25 feet of water. After the waters fall, authorities are expecting to find numerous bodies, especially in autos that drove into high water. Many roads are closed due to high water. Neighbors who have tried to drive out tell us that all roads around us are under water and impassable. Since the water is still rising and more rain is on the way, it appears that we will be marooned here for some time. The forecasts say we will be having more rain until Friday. All our church members are reporting that they and their homes are safe. I thank our God and Savior that He is watching over His children in this time. He has provided all that we have need of. All praise and glory to His Name!!

The last few days, we have been sitting in the house listening to the heavy rain continuously pouring down. As I have said, I have never seen anything like this in the past. The rain has made me think of what it must have been like for the lost who refused to accept God's call and to enter the ark with Noah. The SOP tells us that the rain and rising waters took months to cover the Earth and the wicked could only watch as the waters rose about them, knowing that they had refused the salvation that God had offered.

We SDAs, and the whole world, are at the same point today. Each person is offered salvation on the same conditions that were required of the world in Noah's time. We must trust in God's grace that is offered through the blood of Jesus Christ. Most have no problem with trusting Jesus and accepting Him as their Savior, but refuse to accept Him as their LORD and obey Him in all things. He asks of us. As the old hymn says, we must "trust and obey for there's no other way".  We are told that we are sanctified through obediance to the truth. We are only made holy and receive the character of Jesus by obeying Him in all that He commands... even the smallest of things. As we can see through all this, He is soon to return.

Are we obeying our dear Lord as we should? Are we ready to stand before God without a mediator?  I pray that we are. God Bless you all.

Thank you my sister and all my brothers and sisters at TRO for all the prayers. Our God has sent, or allowed, this to happen in order for His children to be tested, that we may see our need of Him. The SOP tells us,"It is trial that leads us to see what we are." [4T 285].

I awoke this morning around 2 am. because it was quite and something did not seem right. I listened for awhile and then it hit me...the downpour of rain had stopped! We are still receiving rain but the worst is over in this part of Texas. Harvey had finally moved far enough away to the SE, that we were no longer being hit by the squalls in its feeder bands. The area in the SE corner of Texas and SW Louisianna are now being hit. The Beaumont area has also been suffering from the rains and floods. They have been enduring flooded roads and homes and recuing people from their homes since the storm first went ashore in the area of Rockport Fri. night. Now they getting hit hard hard and the cities and towns there are flooded also. They have received approx. 15 in. of rain last night. Now the storm has speeded up and will move away quickly and not linger around so long. It will soon be over.

As of now it is reported that 30 people have died from the storm so far and many more are missing. The death toll will rise as the water subsides. People are still trapped in their homes, on the roofs of homes, in and on their vehicles in the streets and roads, and in trees awaiting rescue. My son-in-law is in law enforcement at the Sheriff Dept. in Montgomery County, and told me that so far 4 looters have been killed by people that stayed in their homes to protect their and their neighbors homes. The rivers are still rising and more areas are going to be flooded yet. Some areas around this part of Texas have received more than fifty inches of rain. Beaumont has so far had more that 43 in. and more to come. Here at home, we have had 33 3/4 inches of rain since Fri. night.

Yesterday (Tuesday) the rain slacked off somewhat, so we decided to attempt to go into the nearest town to get a few supplies. A trip that normally would take appox. 30 minutes took us almost 2 hrs. The roads around here are still flooded from the creeks and bayous being out of their banks. We tried one way after another to find a way into town. Thanks to our big ol' truck, we were able to get across some roads where the roads were not as high.

So far it appears that only two Conroe SDA  church  members homes have flooded. There will probaly be more. Thanks be to God that the worst is over! Continue in your prayers that Christians will see our need to have a closer walk with our LORD and that the lost will see their need of a savior.

God Bless...

Cop;

When things  get back to semi normal or even before, there is a very good GLOW tract that would be timely. It is entitled, " Making Sense of Natural Disasters." One of the options pictures a flood. The tract could be handed out door to door, left here there and yonder, and or placed in relief baskets etc..

Thanks my brother. I have the tract and have been passing them out prior to the storm. It definitely is what may lead souls to want to know more about God.

We got out today to resupply and had to take a long round-aboutway tpo get where we were going. Roads are washed out, bridger washed away and a lot of debris from the high water on the roads. As bad as the Houston area got hit, there are a lot worst conditions down the coast and in East  Texas than in Houston.

Down the coast, where the storm landed, Corpus Christi, Rockport, Aransas Pass, Victoria have been wiped clean from the high winds and storm surge plus the flooding. East of Houston, the Beaumont, Port Arthur area received more rain than Houston andthe flooding is more severe. Water is still rising and more evacuations are being called for. The entire cities are under water  and the rural areas are hit even worst. Beaumont's water system crashed because of the high water shorting out the pumps. They have a very severe shortage of water and are worried about fires as there is no water to fight any fires that break out. ALL roads and highways are under water and nothing can come in or go out of the area because of the damage. They are completely isolated from all but helicopters and boats. It is very hard to get any food etc. into the area.

There is a shortage of fuel down here even though we have the world's largest concentration of refineries in SE Texas. Stock up on fuel now because there will be a shortage nation-wide plus the cost will be going up rapidly. All the refineries, chemical plants, and off shore and on shore oil fields have been shut down. Whenever a refinery shuts down, it take weeks or months to fire up and began producing again. Chemical plants, which produce many chemicals used for making tires, shoes, clothing, and anything made of plastic and very much of anything that you buy, except food, will take even longer to come online. The cost of food will began to increase also due to transportation fuel costs going up.

Houston is in the lime light because of its size and being the 4th. largest city in the U.S. As bad as it is in Houston, there are many areas that are worst and not receiving as much help. In my 66 years of living in this part of Texas and going through so many hurricanes, I have NEVER seen anything like this. Pray that souls will see that the things of this world are not eternal and be turned to God through all this and see their need of a Savior.
My religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready, no matter when it may overtake me....That is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave."

Hurricane Harvey was catastrophic. Many are still suffering from the epic amounts of rain which fell upon Texas.  With Irma headed for Florida, much attention is being focused there, but the disaster in Texas is not forgotten. These disasters are increasing in intensity and frequency, and will continue to do so. And, they are world-wide. But, America which has been protected from great disasters will not be protected any longer and will begin to suffer as have other non-Christian nations have suffered in the past. Satan is at work, and God's hand of protection is being removed because of America's immorality. We know what will  be the result. It will be said that the disasters are because of the desecration of the sun day.

The New York Times has produced some documentaries on the Texas disaster. They will play one after another.
