Amen, Brother Beacon, Sister Dorine, and Brother Richard!!

God does not see as we see. When a situation looks dark, the light of Christ's loveliness is so powerful to elevate our thoughts and emotions, our desires and purposes, so we can appreciate what He has for us--an eternity in His life that begins the moment we yield the whole heart to Christ!!!

 "The night is dark, but the Sun of Righteousness is shining upon them. Their hearts leap for joy. They seem to be in a new world. Christ is a living Saviour. They no longer mourn over Him as dead. Christ is risen--over and over again they repeat it. This is the message they are carrying to the sorrowing ones. They must tell them the wonderful story of the walk to Emmaus. They must tell who joined them by the way. They carry the greatest message ever given to the world, a message of glad tidings upon which the hopes of the human family for time and for eternity depend." {The Desire of Ages, page 801, paragraph 3}

When we look to Christ and find hope in Him, there is such healing!! Better hope is found in Christ and motivates us to draw night to Christ!!

"For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God" (Hebrews 7:19).

It is not enough to know we should not be discouraged--we need to look to Him and find the hope and joy of His abiding presence!!

"When we live by faith on the Son of God, the fruits of the Spirit will be seen in our lives; not one will be missing." {The Desire of Ages, 676.4}

"Can you imagine the excitement of these two disciples, now filled with relief, and joy. It is the Lord Jesus! He has risen from the dead. It is not the END filled with sadness, grief and utter disappointment.

"They carry the greatest message ever given to the world, a message of glad tidings upon which the hopes of the human family for time and for eternity depend."

What was their reaction??

"The two disciples leave their meal untasted, and full of joy immediately set out again on the same path by which they came, hurrying to tell the tidings to the disciples in the city. In some parts the road is not safe, but they climb over the steep places, slipping on the smooth rocks. They do not see, they do not know, that they have the protection of Him who has traveled the road with them. With their pilgrim staff in hand, they press on, desiring to go faster than they dare. They lose their track, but find it again. Sometimes running, sometimes stumbling, they press forward, their unseen Companion close beside them all the way.

"They carry the greatest message ever given to the world, a message of glad tidings upon which the hopes of the human family for time and for eternity depend."

Have we not also been commissioned to carry the greatest message ever given to the world? Will not the same Jesus come with us to guide and protect?? The door of mercy & probation is about to close for the inhabitants of this planet..May God help us to have the same response as these two disciples as we approach the second coming of our Lord and Saviour.
Look up and listen for the shout.

Amen Brother Beacon! Why are we not just as excited as were the men from Emmaus? The men who walked to Emmaus, an eight mile journey, ran back to Jerusalem, another eight miles! Why do you suppose we do not want to run everywhere shouting the good news? Maybe we have forgotten what we have heard?

     Strange that the disciples did not remember Christ's words, and realize that He had foretold the events which had come to pass! They did not realize that the last part of His disclosure would be just as verily fulfilled as the first part, that the third day He would rise again. This was the part they should have remembered. The priests and rulers did not forget this. On the day "that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate, saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while He was yet alive, After three days I will rise again." Matthew 27:62, 63. But the disciples did not remember these words.

The greatest message ever given to the world is in our hands. What are you doing today? Will you tell someone, or do you have other plans for the day?

Welcome to the five guests who are reading with us today. Many will not take the time each day to behold their Savior, even knowing it would be well to spend a thoughtful hour a day contemplating the life of Christ, for by beholding we become transformed into His image, His character. This is the greatest message ever given to the world! We can become today partakers of God's divine nature if we will love our Savior with the whole heart. When we know Him as it is our privilege to know Him, we will allow the Holy Spirit to take possession of our heart. Then we shall love those who despitefully use us. It is a promise.
Jesus receives His reward when we reflect His character, the fruits of the Spirit......We deny Jesus His reward when we do not.

Amen, Brother Beacon and Brother Richard!!

We have a story to tell! We have a testimony to bear! Each and every one of us can recount the unique way God has led us to have our own "Emmaus Walk" so to speak in which we may have been so overwhelmed with discouragement of the dissolution of our own hopes and plans that we nearly failed to see Jesus was with us THE WHOLE TIME working out HIS PLAN!! May we today walk in the victory of Christ and enjoy the "Enoch Walk" of intimate, constant union and communion with Jesus so our hearts may not only burn with His love from within, but overflow in a living witness of what the gospel creates: souls who are so thoroughly converted that they reveal all of the fruits of the Spirit without one missing and are willing to do anything God says, obey all that He reveals, and consider duty a delight, sacrifice a pleasure, and find that the most weighty trust and highest honor to share is the fellowship of Jesus' sufferings!! This is the gospel experience that "turned the world upside down" (Acts 17:6) in the early church and will do it again as it is lived and experienced with EVEN GREATER POWER than then by an even more abundant outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the latter rain, for the light shining on our path is EVEN BRIGHTER, as Jesus is about to return in POWER AND GREAT GLORY!!! We may truly know FROM SCRIPTURE the evidence for why we truly believe in Jesus and can share His loveliness with the whole world!

"The night is dark, but the Sun of Righteousness is shining upon them. Their hearts leap for joy. They seem to be in a new world. Christ is a living Saviour. They no longer mourn over Him as dead. "Jesus was invited into their humble home in Emmaus, He hesistated but  they entreated Him to stay and eat with them. ." Christ yielded to this entreaty and "went in to tarry with them." Had the disciples failed to press their invitation, they would not have known that their traveling companion was the risen Lord. Christ never forces His company upon anyone. He interests Himself in those who need Him. Gladly will He enter the humblest home, and cheer the lowliest heart. The simple evening meal of bread is soon prepared. It is placed before the guest, who has taken His seat at the head of the table. Now He puts forth His hands to bless the food. The disciples start back in astonishment. Their companion spreads forth His hands in exactly the same way as their Master used to do. They look again, and lo, they see in His hands the print of nails. Both exclaim at once, It is the Lord Jesus! He has risen from the dead! They rise to cast themselves at His feet and worship Him, but He has vanished out of their sight. "

"Can you imagine their excitement, relief, and joy! It is the Lord Jesus! He has risen from the dead. It is not the END filled with sadness, grief and utter disappointment."

As they hurried in the darkness and danger back to Jerusalem can you imagine their excitement ---JESUS IS ALIVE!!

"They carry the greatest message ever given to the world, a message of glad tidings upon which the hopes of the human family for time and for eternity depend.

Amen, Brother Beacon!!

Praise the Lord for the privilege of being able to have our faith anchored in what is the most convincing evidence of Christ's divinity--that His life is a fulfillment of the prophecies given in the Old Testament! When we read incredible passages like Psalm 22, Isaiah 53, and promises like Genesis 3:15, we see that the Bible establishes Christ as the Messiah in a way that the miracles of His life were an evidence of His divine character, but not the STRONGEST EVIDENCE. If we desire evidence of God's will, the strongest evidence is that what He is leading us to do is FROM THE SCRIPTURES. Even Satan and his evil angels at times are permitted to perform miracles for the purpose of deception (see Revelation 16:14), but only Christ and those who are in a converted union and communion with Him will bear evidence of lives that are to be found in complete harmony with Scripture, not only manifesting all of the fruits of the Spirit without one missing, but fulfilling their specific purpose in God's eternal plan. Let us allow our lives to be so shaped by the word of God that this becomes the reason why we do what we do, and let God bring miracles or other evidences if it is best. Even Christ never worked a miracle except to supply a genuine necessity, and He never worked a miracle for His own benefit (hence why He did not turn stones into bread for Himself as accorded in Matthew 4). We can depend completely on God to lead us each step of the way towards heaven because we have the heavenly guidebook, the Bible, a precious revelation of Jesus!!

"It is the voice of Christ that speaks through patriarchs and prophets, from the days of Adam even to the closing scenes of time. The Saviour is revealed in the Old Testament as clearly as in the New. It is the light from the prophetic past that brings out the life of Christ and the teachings of the New Testament with clearness and beauty. The miracles of Christ are a proof of His divinity; but a stronger proof that He is the world's Redeemer is found in comparing the prophecies of the Old Testament with the history of the New." {The Desire of Ages, page 799, paragraph 2}

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path" (Psalm 119:105).
May the light of God's perfect word direct you in the formation of a character after the image of Jesus, who promises by His Spirit to be "Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27).
"When we live by faith on the Son of God, the fruits of the Spirit will be seen in our lives; not one will be missing." {The Desire of Ages, 676.4}

"Had the disciples failed to press their invitation, they would not have known that their traveling companion was the risen Lord. Christ never forces His company upon anyone. He interests Himself in those who need Him. Gladly will He enter the humblest home, and cheer the lowliest heart. But if men are too indifferent to think of the heavenly Guest, or ask Him to abide with them, He passes on. Thus many meet with great loss. They do not know Christ any more than did the disciples as He walked with them by the way."

When we open our hearts to Christ and invite Him in He delights to reside there. There is nothing more precious than the realization that by faith we can walk and talk with Christ along our earthly journey just as these disciples did. I want Him to be my constant companion. I like the part where the disciples said, "Did not our heart burn within us, while He talked with us by the way, and while He opened to us the Scriptures?"I want my heart to ever burn within me as He reveals to me deeper truths from His word. The hymn "Pass Me Not O, Gentle Saviour" comes to mind.
But this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press  toward the mark. Phil. 3:13,14

Amen Brother Beacon, Pastor Sean, and Sister Dorine!  I enjoy this chapter so very much.  Jesus loves us and it is revealed in this chapter. Not only did He seek out these two men, He disguised Himself so He could teach them, He pretended to not want to eat with them, He left when they recognized Him, but He was right beside them as they hurried back to spread the message that He had given them and us. Are we not just as excited as they were? The end of the world is come upon us! Are we spreading the Word as if our lives depend upon it? If not, why not? Have we missed something, as a people? What will get us as excited as them? Is it not the very same truths?

They carry the greatest message ever given to the world, a message of glad tidings upon which the hopes of the human family for time and for eternity depend.

We have been entrusted with that very same message to carry to a world soon to perish! There are many today seeking to understand what to do as the world sinks into oblivion.

While things may get darker in our world through a misapprehension and misunderstanding of God's character of love, let us look to the RISEN CHRIST who is SOON TO RETURN in power and great glory to take home to heaven all who have yielded their lives fully to Him! As we look to Christ, the light of His countenance shines upon us! "Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee" (Isaiah 60:1). As surely as the disciples on the road to Emmaus found hope in Jesus who anchored their faith in His word, let us find in the word of God the anchor for our souls in the troubles we face and in the great time of trouble to transpire before Jesus returns, knowing that He will lighten our darkness by the sure word of His truth!

"The night is dark, but the Sun of Righteousness is shining upon them. Their hearts leap for joy. They seem to be in a new world. Christ is a living Saviour. They no longer mourn over Him as dead. Christ is risen--over and over again they repeat it. This is the message they are carrying to the sorrowing ones. They must tell them the wonderful story of the walk to Emmaus. They must tell who joined them by the way. They carry the greatest message ever given to the world, a message of glad tidings upon which the hopes of the human family for time and for eternity depend." {The Desire of Ages, page 801, paragraph 3}

Share the glad tidings of Jesus as a living Savior far and wide! As we behold His loveliness, He lifts our hearts into His presence, forgives our sins, renews our minds, and fills us with all of the fruits of the Spirit so not one is missing! Such a life testifies that obedience is a delight in Christ! Let the light of His love shine through you this Sabbath day! Happy Sabbath!!
"When we live by faith on the Son of God, the fruits of the Spirit will be seen in our lives; not one will be missing." {The Desire of Ages, 676.4}

"Christ must die, as every transgressor of the law must die if he continues in sin. All this was to be, but it was not to end in defeat, but in glorious, eternal victory. Jesus told them that every effort must be made to save the world from sin. His followers must live as He lived, and work as He worked, with intense, persevering effort."

These are strong words yet they should not discourage us. When we abide in Christ He gives us the desire to work for the lost. Self will be forgotten and our hearts will burn within us to work for the salvation of souls.

Amen Pastor Sean and Sister Dorine!!  When we are filled with the Holy Spirit (truly converted) we do not have to be told to witness, we will be His witnesses of the power of grace to transform sinners into saints. This week's Sabbath School lessons reveal this truth.

 They no longer mourn over Him as dead. Christ is risen--over and over again they repeat it. This is the message they are carrying to the sorrowing ones. They must tell them the wonderful story of the walk to Emmaus. They must tell who joined them by the way. They carry the greatest message ever given to the world, a message of glad tidings upon which the hopes of the human family for time and for eternity depend.

And, if we are filled with the Holy Spirit, do we not have this great message we want to share with all who will listen?

What a tremendous blessing these two disciples would have missed if they had failed to invite this unknown traveler to come into their humble home and share their food and rest. This is a lesson we need to incorporate into our daily lives. Just think of the joy and gladness that filled their hearts when they found out He was non other than their "RISEN" Lord & Savior and in spite of the danger of night travel over precarious terrain they just had to go back to Jerusalem and share the "GOOD NEWS" with the other disciples. Should "WE" not also share the same urgency to tell others about a RISEN SAVIOR?

  "But with this great news to communicate they cannot sit and talk. Their weariness and hunger are gone. They leave their meal untasted, and full of joy immediately set out again on the same path by which they came, hurrying to tell the tidings to the disciples in the city. In some parts the road is not safe, but they climb over the steep places, slipping on the smooth rocks. They lose their track, but find it again. Sometimes running, sometimes stumbling, they press forward, their unseen Companion close beside them all the way."

As I read this portion this morning I am reminded that all along our pilgrim journey we too have the company and protection of God. I love how when learning that their companion was Jesus they forgot about their hunger and weariness. They risked their lives in order to share the great news with their friends.

"Jesus told them that every effort must be made to save the world from sin. His followers must live as He lived, and work as He worked, with intense, persevering effort."

Does Jesus expect any less from us? No, never. It's wonderful to know that as we link up with Jesus He is ever with us and gives us the selfless desire and energy to bring the great news of salvation to a lost world.

Amen dear sister! What joy to be able to spend time with Jesus face-to-face! But, there was another reason why the two disciples were so excited. It was not just that they had seen Jesus and He was risen from the grave, but it was that message that they now understood.

"Did not our heart burn within us, while He talked with us by the way, and while He opened to us the Scriptures?"

They understood that it was to them that the message was given. Are we not as excited ourselves, because we have been given the last message of warning to a world soon to Perish? Are you not as excited as they were? We ought to be. I am!

The church sleeps not understanding that God will give them love, joy, and peace continually if they will give their hearts continually to Jesus. Not only love, joy, and peace, but long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance which is self control. All of these are in the life of those who love Jesus with the whole heart holding nothing back.

The church remains in a Laodicean condition not understanding what it means to be converted. The Laodicean believes he is rich and increased with goods not knowing he is blind to the gospel message. If you are no longer blind to your continual need of Jesus and that the gospel message means freedom from sin, then you know of this excitement that the two disciples felt as they journeyed back to Jerusalem. Many in Babylon are open to the truth and it is our privilege to give to them the bread of life, the gospel message. And there are multitudes not just in our church, but  in the world who have no peace and will listen to this most wonderful message, the most wonderful ever given in the whole universe!!

  The night is dark, but the Sun of Righteousness is shining upon them. Their hearts leap for joy. They seem to be in a new world. Christ is a living Saviour. They no longer mourn over Him as dead. Christ is risen--over and over again they repeat it. This is the message they are carrying to the sorrowing ones. They must tell them the wonderful story of the walk to Emmaus. They must tell who joined them by the way. Amen, Sister Dorine and Brother Richard!

God will lighten the darkness as we let the light of His word shine in our hearts! Jesus is a RISEN SAVIOR and He will arise in your heart with all of the fruits of the Spirit without one missing as you yield unreservedly to Him!!

"The night is dark, but the Sun of Righteousness is shining upon them. Their hearts leap for joy. They seem to be in a new world. Christ is a living Saviour. They no longer mourn over Him as dead. Let us share the GREATEST MESSAGE EVER! Jesus is coming again and He is willing to work in us to will and to do of His good pleasure to prepare us for His return!!

Today Jesus is looking for those within His church who will be just as excited as were those two disciples to share the news about a RISEN SAVIOUR, who is now about to return to take His children home to a place where there will be no more Sadness - Sorrow - or Death. Like the song says....

"What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see - & - He take me by the hand and leads to to and through the Promised Land - What a day, Glorious Day that will be."!!

  "Late in the afternoon of the day of the resurrection, two of the disciples were on their way to Emmaus, a little town eight miles from Jerusalem. These disciples had had no prominent place in Christ's work, but they were earnest believers in Him."

I love this chapter. It is packed with spiritual gems. But this morning a simple yet important truth impressed my mind. We don't have to be in the forefront of God's work to be used of Him in a mighty way. Jesus took special care and time to spend with these followers of his to bring comfort and joy to their hearts and to make them witnesses for Him. That delights my heart for it shows how important each one of us are to Jesus and the spreading of the gospel. Hungering souls are all around us and like these disciples many are discouraged and despondent not knowing or understanding what their future is. We are here to share the great and glorious news of our risen Saviour and what He is longing to do for each one that comes to Him.

  In teaching these disciples, Jesus showed the importance of the Old Testament as a witness to His mission. Many professed Christians now discard the Old Testament, claiming that it is no longer of any use. But such is not Christ's teaching. So highly did He value it that at one time He said, "If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead." Luke 16:31.
    It is the voice of Christ that speaks through patriarchs and prophets, from the days of Adam even to the closing scenes of time. The Saviour is revealed in the Old Testament as clearly as in the New. It is the light from the prophetic past that brings out the life of Christ and the teachings of the New Testament with clearness and beauty. The miracles of Christ are a proof of His divinity; but a stronger proof that He is the world's Redeemer is found in comparing the prophecies of the Old Testament with the history of the New.

I agree there are many nuggets to gather from this chapter, I was struck by the fact Jesus taught from the OT and stated without faith and belief in the OT scriptures, people will not believe in his crucifixion and resurrection. The Old helps to understand the New Testament.  The prophecies are best understood through study of the Old and New testaments, i.e. Daniel helps us to understand Revelation, which strengthens our faith as we see them fulfilled.

They carry the greatest message ever given to the world, a message of glad tidings upon which the hopes of the human family for time and for eternity depend."

Would we have been willing to immediately turn around and walk back over a very rough terrain in the blackness of the night 8 miles back to Jerusalem to share the Good News with others? Maybe God is not requiring that of us but He most assuredly has commanded us as it says in..

Matthew 28:19 "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

So the great question is..." What are "We" doing today to share the Good News of the soon coming of Jesus?
Look up and listen for the shout.
