Unto You a Saviour

Listen to  Unto You a Saviour

The King of glory stooped low to take humanity. Rude and forbidding were His earthly surroundings. His glory was veiled, that the majesty of His outward form might not become an object of attraction. He shunned all outward display. Riches, worldly honor, and human greatness can never save a soul from death; Jesus purposed that no attraction of an earthly nature should call men to His side. Only the beauty of heavenly truth must draw those who would follow Him. The character of the Messiah had long been foretold in prophecy, and He desired men to accept Him upon the testimony of the word of God.
The angels had wondered at the glorious plan of redemption. They watched to see how the people of God would receive His Son, clothed in the garb of humanity. Angels came to the land of the chosen people. Other nations were dealing in fables and worshiping false gods. To the land where the glory of God had been revealed, and the light of prophecy had shone, the angels came. They came unseen to Jerusalem, to the appointed expositors of the Sacred Oracles, and the ministers of God's house. Already to Zacharias the priest, as he ministered before the altar, the nearness of Christ's coming had been announced. Already the forerunner was born, his mission attested by miracle and prophecy. The tidings of his birth and the wonderful significance of his mission had been spread abroad. Yet Jerusalem was not preparing to welcome her Redeemer.
With amazement the heavenly messengers beheld the indifference of that people whom God had called to communicate to the world the light of sacred truth. The Jewish nation had been preserved as a witness that Christ was to be born of the seed of Abraham and of David's line; yet they knew not that His coming was now at hand. In the temple the morning and the evening sacrifice daily pointed to the Lamb of God; yet even here was no preparation to receive Him. The priests and teachers of the nation knew not that the greatest event of the ages was about to take place. They rehearsed their meaningless prayers, and performed the rites of worship to be seen by men, but in their strife for riches and worldly honor they were not prepared for the revelation of the Messiah. The same indifference pervaded the land of Israel. Hearts selfish and world-engrossed were untouched by the joy that thrilled all heaven. Only a few were longing to behold the Unseen. To these heaven's embassy was sent.
Angels attend Joseph and Mary as they journey from their home in Nazareth to the city of David. The decree of imperial Rome for the enrollment of the peoples of her vast dominion has extended to the dwellers among the hills of Galilee. As in old time Cyrus was called to the throne of the world's empire that he might set free the captives of the Lord, so Caesar Augustus is made the agent for the fulfillment of God's purpose in bringing the mother of Jesus to Bethlehem. She is of the lineage of David, and the Son of David must be born in David's city. Out of Bethlehem, said the prophet, "shall He come forth . . . that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from the days of eternity." Micah 5:2, margin. But in the city of their royal line, Joseph and Mary are unrecognized and unhonored. Weary and homeless, they traverse the entire length of the narrow street, from the gate of the city to the eastern extremity of the town, vainly seeking a resting place for the night. There is no room for them at the crowded inn. In a rude building where the beasts are sheltered, they at last find refuge, and here the Redeemer of the world is born.
Men know it not, but the tidings fill heaven with rejoicing. With a deeper and more tender interest the holy beings from the world of light are drawn to the earth. The whole world is brighter for His presence. Above the hills of Bethlehem are gathered an innumerable throng of angels. They wait the signal to declare the glad news to the world. Had the leaders in Israel been true to their trust, they might have shared the joy of heralding the birth of Jesus. But now they are passed by.
God declares, "I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground." "Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness." Isaiah 44:3; Psalm 112:4. To those who are seeking for light, and who accept it with gladness, the bright rays from the throne of God will shine.
In the fields where the boy David had led his flock, shepherds were still keeping watch by night. Through the silent hours they talked together of the promised Saviour, and prayed for the coming of the King to David's throne. "And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."
At these words, visions of glory fill the minds of the listening shepherds. The Deliverer has come to Israel! Power, exaltation, triumph, are associated with His coming. But the angel must prepare them to recognize their Saviour in poverty and humiliation. "This shall be a sign unto you," he says; "Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger."
The heavenly messenger had quieted their fears. He had told them how to find Jesus. With tender regard for their human weakness, he had given them time to become accustomed to the divine radiance. Then the joy and glory could no longer be hidden. The whole plain was lighted up with the bright shining of the hosts of God. Earth was hushed, and heaven stooped to listen to the song,--

"Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, good will toward men."

Oh that today the human family could recognize that song! The declaration then made, the note then struck, will swell to the close of time, and resound to the ends of the earth. When the Sun of Righteousness shall arise, with healing in His wings, that song will be re-echoed by the voice of a great multitude, as the voice of many waters, saying, "Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth." Revelation 19:6.
As the angels disappeared, the light faded away, and the shadows of night once more fell on the hills of Bethlehem. But the brightest picture ever beheld by human eyes remained in the memory of the shepherds. "And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger."
Departing with great joy, they made known the things they had seen and heard. "And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God."
Heaven and earth are no wider apart today than when shepherds listened to the angels' song. Humanity is still as much the object of heaven's solicitude as when common men of common occupations met angels at noonday, and talked with the heavenly messengers in the vineyards and the fields. To us in the common walks of life, heaven may be very near. Angels from the courts above will attend the steps of those who come and go at God's command.
The story of Bethlehem is an exhaustless theme. In it is hidden "the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God." Romans 11:33. We marvel at the Saviour's sacrifice in exchanging the throne of heaven for the manger, and the companionship of adoring angels for the beasts of the stall. Human pride and self-sufficiency stand rebuked in His presence. Yet this was but the beginning of His wonderful condescension. It would have been an almost infinite humiliation for the Son of God to take man's nature, even when Adam stood in his innocence in Eden. But Jesus accepted humanity when the race had been weakened by four thousand years of sin. Like every child of Adam He accepted the results of the working of the great law of heredity. What these results were is shown in the history of His earthly ancestors. He came with such a heredity to share our sorrows and temptations, and to give us the example of a sinless life.
Satan in heaven had hated Christ for His position in the courts of God. He hated Him the more when he himself was dethroned. He hated Him who pledged Himself to redeem a race of sinners. Yet into the world where Satan claimed dominion God permitted His Son to come, a helpless babe, subject to the weakness of humanity. He permitted Him to meet life's peril in common with every human soul, to fight the battle as every child of humanity must fight it, at the risk of failure and eternal loss.
The heart of the human father yearns over his son. He looks into the face of his little child, and trembles at the thought of life's peril. He longs to shield his dear one from Satan's power, to hold him back from temptation and conflict. To meet a bitterer conflict and a more fearful risk, God gave His only-begotten Son, that the path of life might be made sure for our little ones. "Herein is love." Wonder, O heavens! and be astonished, O earth!

Jesus receives His reward when we reflect His character, the fruits of the Spirit......We deny Jesus His reward when we do not.

No matter how many times I try to comprehend it, I can't. He could have blotted us out, but He didn't. He could have remained in heaven, but He didn't. What a thought that He would leave That Place for us .. it is unimaginable.

The mistrust, hatred and disbelief is horrifying. We received these comments in response to some literature we gave out.

quote:
Please pray for Kathleen who wrote,

"remove me from your mailing list immediately....you offend my belief in God."

And Scott,

"Your belief is one of waiting around for an event that will never actually occur except through the actors of the duped, both fundamentalist Christians and Islamists. The final joke!"

Please pray for this resident who called in anonymously,

"The first chance I get in the fall to light a fire this book will be part of the kindling."

And another caller, Shamon, and observant Jew,

"I am really very surprised that this is legal to send through the mail, seeing I thought we lived in a country that had freedom to practice your own religion and not be proselytized through the mail."

Pray for the honest in heart in New Mexico who are reading this book and hearing in its pages the voice of God speaking to their souls. Pray for the continued out pouring of the Holy Spirit to lead the many searching ones there into all truth.

As it was in the days of His birth, it was in the days in Noah, and so shall it be at the coming of the Son of man ...

As many times as I have read this book, I never really saw this statement. It was humiliating enough to come to our world even in the innocent state of Adam before the fall - but Jesus came after 4,000 years of heredity added to it. Just unimaginable!

He came to show us how to live.

And even as the plan of salvation was being discussed with the Father, we get a glimpse of what took place - long before He finally left heaven:

quote:
Sorrow filled heaven as it was realized that man was lost and that the world which God had created was to be filled with mortals doomed to misery, sickness, and death, and that there was no way of escape for the offender. The whole family of Adam must die. I then saw the lovely Jesus and beheld an expression of sympathy and sorrow upon His countenance. Soon I saw Him approach the exceeding bright light which enshrouded the Father. Said my accompanying angel, "He is in close converse with His Father." The anxiety of the angels seemed to be intense while Jesus was communing with His Father. Three times He was shut in by the glorious light about the Father, and the third time He came from the Father we could see His person. His countenance was calm, free from all perplexity and trouble, and shone with a loveliness which words cannot describe. He then made known to the angelic choir that a way of escape had been made for lost man; that He had been pleading with His Father, and had obtained permission to give His own life as a ransom for the race, to bear their sins, and take the sentence of death upon Himself, thus opening a way whereby they might, through the merits of His blood, find pardon for past transgressions, and by obedience be brought back to the garden from which they were driven. Then they could again have access to the glorious, immortal fruit of the tree of life to which they had now forfeited all right.  {EW 126.1}

Then joy, inexpressible joy, filled heaven, and the heavenly choir sang a song of praise and adoration. They touched their harps and sang a note higher than they had done before, because of the great mercy and
condescension of God in yielding up His dearly Beloved to die for a race of rebels. Then praise and adoration was poured forth for the self-denial and sacrifice of Jesus, in consenting to leave the bosom of His Father, and choosing a life of suffering and anguish, and an ignominious death, that He might give life to others.

    Said the angel, "Think ye that the Father yielded up His dearly beloved Son without a struggle? No, no." It was even a struggle with the God of heaven, whether to let guilty man perish, or to give His darling Son to die for them. Angels were so interested for man's salvation that there could be found among them those who would yield their glory and give their life for perishing man. "But," said my accompanying angel, "that would avail nothing." The transgression was so great that an angel's life would not pay the debt. Nothing but the death and intercession of God's Son would pay the debt and save lost man from hopeless sorrow and misery.  {EW 127.1}

Three times!!! Three times He went to the Father, pleading. Oh, what a sacred conversation. The Father didn't want to give Him up.

There was a risk to let His innocent Son come to this earth. And to let Him come in the fallen nature of man!  When Satan was trying to kill him!!   He hated Jesus, yet our heavenly Father allowed His Son to come to this dark blot in the universe where Satan claimed dominion, a helpless baby subject to the weakness of humanity at the risk of losing Him eternally!!  This is love!! Wonder O heavens and be astonished O Earth!!!!

Yes! The risk ... yet He was found faithful unto death - thus the plan of salvation was assured. And after His death on the cross, the angels finally understood and no longer had any little bit of sympathy for their fallen fellow angel. His intents and purposes were finally clear.

It is hard to imagine that there is a chapter that could bless more than Gethsemane, Calvary, and It is Finished, but chapter four has been the greatest blessing I have ever received.

Because the days are short, I will not spend a lot of time, but will get to the point quickly. After all, the chapter is here for all to be similarly blessed. I do not have to tell others what is here. But, I must testify to the blessing God has given me through this chapter that others may come and taste and see if it not so.

The King of glory stooped low to take humanity....
Only the beauty of heavenly truth must draw those who would follow Him.... (not anything else, wild music, exciting movies, or novels created to tell the story)

To those who are seeking for light, and who accept it with gladness, the bright rays from the throne of God will shine.

And here comes truth so powerful that on my face I was too high before the God revealed.

The story of Bethlehem is an exhaustless theme. In it is hidden "the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God." Romans 11:33. We marvel at the Saviour's sacrifice in exchanging the throne of heaven for the manger, and the companionship of adoring angels for the

Unto You a saviour is indeed born! Mankind was forever emancipated how wonderful

The Dedication
How Many voices, how many scriptures will  e read before we accept Gods charge to us of being first born? But Do we care! As Semeon and Anna held the first born of Gods creation in their hands they were thrilled! Are We likewise tbrilled? Do We feel any specialness? Are we concencrated like baby Jesus or we are just there?
Lord i beseech you to help me to know my true worth in your church, in your remnant and execute this worth so that your kingdom will come. The Times are here and I must do your work. Thank You Lord Jehovah for for granting me knowledge of the desire of Ages¡

Wigina, I pray that we are broken when we read in this chapter of the great love and Sacrifice that God has made for us.

I mentioned in the Sabbath School lesson that I would give a testimony in this thread. I have shared this in the past, but will do it again, and again, and again!  We are to tell of His power and love. What I have quoted in my last post is the most amazing truth that the universe will ever hear. I had read it many times before the day when I was crushed.

The counsel we have been given that is in perfect harmony with 2 Corinthians 3:18, is that it would be good to spend a thoughtful hour a day contemplating the life of Christ, especially the closing scenes. For most of my Christian life, I have understood this truth and so I have studied the four gospels and read and re-read The Desire of Ages. Next to the Bible, this book is the most beautiful book ever written.  In fact, while the Bible is my guide, and it contains for more than The Desire of Ages, my great joy in life is beholding my Savior, listening to His Words. I know the Bible is a revelation of Him also, but I like to hear His Words from His lips. The gospels to this. But, The Desire of Ages does it better for me. It is plain and simple to understand and written in beautiful language and in a chronological order. I love the book. I use it for my devotions.  Most of the book is underlined. I really mean it.  Almost every word!  That is rather amazing considering the book is 835 pages long.

One day almost 25 years ago, I decided to read the chapters Gethsemane, Calvary, and It is Finished over and over. Why? Because they are " the closing scenes" of the life of Christ. I must have read those three chapters for a couple months every day. How can one re-read three chapters over and over? That was not my problem. How could I stop? I was being greatly blessed. Each time I read the chapters, I would see something deeper than before. Of course the subject was God's love for me, as seen through the suffering and death of His dear Son.

One day the Holy Spirit impressed me I needed to stop reading these three chapters and return to the beginning of the book. I was sad, but I understood that I must read again the whole book. I did so with a very blessed heart, but it was sad to leave my favorite subject, the closing scenes of the life of my Saviour.

What a surprise was in store for me.  God knows the end from the beginning. I can imagine His thoughts now. Richard is sad now, but little he know what is coming in a few days, four days to be exact. As usual I was blessed by chapters one, two, and three. Then on September 28, 1988, I got to the third paragraph from the end of the chapter. I read this truth "The story of Bethlehem is an exhaustless theme. In it is hidden "the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God." Romans 11:33." As I read this sentence, I could not believe what I was reading. How could it be?  Well....I did believe it, but I did not understand it. I had just received the greatest blessing of my life by reading the three chapters dealing with the closing scenes of the life of Christ. And, it is in harmony with the truth that we have received that tells us it would be good to contemplate the closing scenes. Now, I am reading that in Bethlehem is "the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God." That is everything! What else is there compared to that? Nothing!! That is what I was learning in the other three chapters. My mind was racing to try and understand this most amazing statement. Something did not fit with what I understood and with my experience. What is in Bethlehem at the beginning of the life of Christ that is so very important, that could compare or exceed what I saw at the end of His life?

I continued reading, stretching my mind to understand. "We marvel at the Saviour's sacrifice in exchanging the throne of heaven for the manger, and the companionship of adoring angels for the beasts of the stall.

Yes, yes, I understand, but what has that do with a knowledge of God compared to the cross?  I could not work it out. My mind continued to search for the answer to what I knew was not a contradiction, but could not reconcile. I continued with my mind reaching deeper into this subject than it ever had in the past. I wanted to know this truth about Bethlehem. "Satan in heaven had hated Christ for His position in the courts of God. He hated Him the more when he himself was dethroned. He hated Him who pledged Himself to redeem a race of sinners." I had read this many times in the past, but this time, it hit me with a greater force. Do you know this? That Satan hated Christ in heaven, he hated him more when he was kicked out of heaven, and even more when Jesus said that He would put enmity between Satan and us. Now, this is very important. There was a deep "hatred" that Satan had towards Jesus. My mind grasped this as I read the next sentence.

"Yet into the world where Satan claimed dominion God permitted His Son to come, a helpless babe, subject to the weakness of humanity."
Now, have you considered this? God knew what danger lay ahead for His innocent Son, as a helpless babe, subject to the weakness of humanity. Have you thought on this? How would you like to place your child in that situation? Willingly when you did not have to? My mind was seeing something I had never grasped before. It was not the love of Jesus that I was seeing, but the love of my heavenly Father for me! He let His innocent Son come to this dark spot of the universe, where Satan claimed dominion, and He let Him come in the "likeness of sinful flesh." Now, listen to the rest for it has not ceased opening our minds to this most important truth.

"He permitted Him to meet life's peril in common with every human soul, to fight the battle as every child of humanity must fight it, at the risk of failure and eternal loss."
Did you know this? We understand that Jesus could have sinned. He could have failed. But, what are we being told here? It is more than the simple truth that Jesus could have failed in His mission to save us. No, it is so much more than that! If He had failed, in coming to this world where Satan claimed dominion and hated Him with a passion we cannot imagine, coming a helpless babe subject to our weaknesses, if He had failed, there would have been an "eternal loss"!!!  My mind grasped it!! And even now I sorrow and am so very pained over what our heavenly Father knew when He let Jesus come to save us. The "eternal loss" that is being shared here is the loss of Jesus to His Father. They would have been eternally separated!! That is the eternal loss that God the Father risked when He let His innocent Son come to this dark world.

I knew what I had read. The Holy Spirit opened my mind so that I understood perfectly what had been written. There no doubt in my mind that our heavenly Father suffered greatly when He let Jesus come, a helpless babe subject to our weaknesses. But, just to make sure I understood, and that you do also, the chapter continues with one last chapter that states the issue so plainly that none need wonder what had been said. If you are a father or a mother, you will understand this lat paragraph in a way that others cannot.

"The heart of the human father yearns over his son. He looks into the face of his little child, and trembles at the thought of life's peril. He longs to shield his dear one from Satan's power, to hold him back from temptation and conflict. To meet a bitterer conflict and a more fearful risk, God gave His only-begotten Son, that the path of life might be made sure for our little ones."

There is it! For a certainty, I knew what God had shown me. What was my reaction? It is best stated with the closing sentence. "'Herein is love.' Wonder, O heavens! and be astonished, O earth!"

I fell on my knees asking God to forgive me my sins. Before I had finished my request, the answer had come back "I do". That broke my heart even more and I fell on my face, asking God again to forgive my sins. Before I could finish, the answer came back "I do."  Oh....such love!!!! I was too high before my God. I tried to push my face into the floor, asking God to forgive my sins. Before I could finish the answer came back, "I do."

In today's Sabbath School lesson we are studying witnessing and the blessing it is for those who do it. I had shared that what we say works on ourselves as well as on others. I want to testify that at this moment, the blessing is mine. By sharing what God showed me, how much He loves us, the great risk He took, even though it was 25 years ago, I relived that experience. It is as if it was just yesterday! My heart is broken as I consider how much He loves me, how much He loves you!! What a risk our heavenly Father took in letting Jesus come to this world a helpless babe, subject our weaknesses, to fight the battle as we have to fight it, at the risk of being eternally separated from Him. And, it was into this world where Satan claimed dominion that Jesus came! Herein is love. Wonder, O heavens! and be astonished, O earth!

Jesus receives His reward when we reflect His character, the fruits of the Spirit......We deny Jesus His reward when we do not.

God gave you an experience, profound and holy. I want to say more but the moment requires silence as I contemplate the holiness of it.

Thank you Richard for sharing all that. If there is something that amazes me is the love of God. l Discovered the same truth when I was reading the four gospels someone a Muslim had challenged me on the timing that seemed contradictory between the captivity and the death. as I, applied myself to discovering that truth,, whathit me most is that Jesus actually feared the tribulation and asked the father to remove the cup but that was not to be and soon he, was left on his own. He feared to be in the hands of the devil without the father's protection. He knew the devil relished it and hard a bone to settle. AsI read Richard's post i recognise that what Jesus saw coming during the time that he was not under grace was overwhelming. Jesus himself doubted if he could make Elijah and Moses had to be summoned to give their experience it was a solemn moment when the creatortook strength from his creation from their experience!, Once I asked our Sabbath school class if they realized whatGod was l losing if Jesus failed, do we here understand do we try to fathom what the none fallen worlds were waiting to see? God losing His creating power think about it;
John 1:1-3: 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
The almighty risked losing His word? just for me! Sometimes i feel so much shame when I, think of this tears always come to my e eyes for such Love will never be.
Thank you Jehovah for this selfless love., take me my father and use me add you please for my life and meagre testimony is nothing compared to what you risked for me you are worthy of my praise a zillion zillion zillion times without end! I Love you and adore you my father please wash away my iniquity. cleanse my ? heart and make me whole. Please Lord God I tremble at the thought of being in the presence of an everlasting fire! And yet I long to be in your everlasting consuming fire when my heart is upright and I fear no more for your righteousness will be in me!

Angels light the city of David and yet the teachers of the law are ignorant of the fact. How sad to be ordered by a usurper of the throne to search for the real King! The glory of the angels can not be revealed to the impure heart yet it faints and dies. Is this also Assn admonition to us?
The haughtiness of the Jewish leaders reveal their ignorance of Gods law and the scripture. For the Lord warns us not to despise our brethren for all mankind is created in the image of God. The one we despise might be the one favoured by the Lord God. And what then willwe say on that say when we inherit the Kingdom together.
Ezekiel 16:60-63: 60 Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with thee in the days of thy youth, and I will establish unto thee an everlasting covenant. 61 Then thou shalt remember thy ways, and be ashamed, when thou shalt receive thy sisters, thine elder and thy younger: and I will give them unto thee for daughters, but not by thy covenant. 62 And I will establish my covenant with thee; and thou shalt know that I [am] the LORD: 63 That thou mayest remember, and be confounded, and never open thy mouth any more because of thy shame, when I am pacified toward thee for all that thou hast done, saith the Lord GOD.

The prophet keeps on reminding me not to be haughty against the other churches for I might be ashamed when the Lord concerts them and gives them a place in His eternal kingdom. Let us heed the warning for there is no shame where weare going soon!

Amen, Dorine. How could anyone who has any discernment not be humbled that our God would risk His innocent Son in such a manner, for a despised race of sinners such as us. Wonder O heavens and be astonished O Earth!! How we need to remember this daily. God loves us!! What value He has placed upon us!!!
