Mad Pigs?
« on: August 23, 2015, 01:11:17 PM »
As science continues  to study the spongiform diseases such as Mad Cow Disease (BSE) they are finding that the disease has infected more species than first believed. Now, there is evidence that suggests pigs may be carriers of it. What does this mean to us? We may not eat pig, but it is in a lot of products such as gelatin. Don't eat gelatin? It is in a lot of products including the gel caps used in medicine and supplements such as herbs.

Medicines and vaccines generally have ingredients that few attempt to research. In doing some research this morning I tracked down a product that may transmit spongiform disease to humans. It has become a fast growing experience to take mind improving drugs. Without knowing the ingredients of some, many would be surprised to find out the source of some ingredients is pig brain.

N-PEP-12 is one such product that is being used by healthy young people seeking to improve brain function. N-PEP-12 is a derivative of cerebrolysin, a pig brain-derived neuropeptide compound. Cerebrolysin is sold in Europe and is used to treat overactive children. The product Cebria is being sold as a supplement for brain enhancement. Cebria’s primary ingredient is a proprietary formula called Neuro Pep 12. Neuro Pep 12 is manufactured by a German company named EVER Neuro Pharma. In Europe, it’s marketed under the name “Cerebrolysin and is used as at treatment for stroke, dementia, and brain injuries."

In a double blind medical study published in Int Clin Psychopharmacol, 2005 Mar;20(2):97-100, we find: "N-PEP-12 treated subjects performed better than placebo-treated subjects on the ADAS-cog Memory score, the SKT, clinical ratings and some, but not other tests. N-PEP-12 may be an effective treatment for memory loss in healthy older adults." Sounds pretty good. It is being sold in 30 countries. Let's go one step further.

Prions are particularly insidious pathogens. A recent outbreak of peripheral neuropathy in human, suggests that exposure to aerosolized porcine (pig) brain is deleterious for human health...... One case of iatrogenic CJD in recipient of porcine dura mater graft has been reported in the literature....The low public awareness in this matter is exemplified by the practice of using proteolytic peptide mixtures prepared from porcine brains (Cerebrolysin) as a nootropic drug. While Cerebrolysin may be beneficial for treatment of severe diseases such as vascular dementia,53 a long term follow-up of such a product for recreational use is recommended.  Prion; Volume 9, Issue 4, 2015;
