Call the children! Let them behold these beautiful animals! Elder John Thurber sent this and we thank him!

Friesland is a northern province in the Netherlands.

The Friesian is a horse breed that originated in the Netherlands

During the Middle Ages ancestors of Friesian horses were used

as war horses. Their size enabled them to carry a knight in armor.

The breed nearly became extinct on more than one occasion but

the modern day Friesian horse is growing in numbers and popul-

arity, used both in harness and under saddle. Most recently, the

breed is being introduced to the field of dressage.

Their manes and tails are the longest that I have seen and I

noticed that when performing on grass, their hoofs do not

kick up a divot (they land flat footed).

Absolutely stunning! and that says more than you think once you realize I'm not a big fan of horses.  ;)   I haven't yet had a good experience with a horse. But that is probably somewhat my fault as I've always found them a bit intimidating and I think they realize it and take advantage of it.

Anyway.. These horses are just beautiful. If I were to ever own a horse I'd add this this breed to my short list along with Belgium Draft and Clydesdale. I know.. it doesn't make sense for one who is intimidated by horses.  :)

I'm with you, Jim. Their sheer size does it for me. A neighbor is leaving for 4 days and I will have charge of her 3 horses and other animals while she is gone. This week she will teach me to become as "fearless" as possible while caring for them. It's one thing to feed them and treat them to apples, but to be in the stalls with them is something I do not relish. She has Fjords.

What beauty!!  The manes and tails or gorgeous!  The  Lipizzan is a tremendous horse, but these Friesians are beautiful.  Speaking of horses, I had the  joy of visiting with some wild mustangs on the Sabbath. I have ridden them just after being broke, but yesterday, they were the real thing, in the wild. There were a couple of palominos. One was beautiful even though the mane and tail could not compare to what we see in this thread.

Jim, I have an idea that even if you could get over the intimidation, there would be another stumbling block for us.....the price, I am sure.
