DIY Food Testing

With all the recalls these days and also including pet foods, I'm seriously considering getting a testing kit for a variety of germs. Does/has anyone done this? I see a number of companies sell testing strips and methods of testing.

Hummm ... have not thought of it but it sounds like a good idea as long as we are dependent upon grocery stores for food.
