Call me naive. Wouldn't these people need to take this up with God instead of each other? They want to challenge patriarchy! Well, come to think of it, many in the church have been doing that for years by attempting to place women where men should be. We are spiritually equal - all of humanity - yet the Bible says we have different roles. How do these people expect to accomplish their goals without becoming a law unto themselves? It cannot be done and still have heaven's approval.

Christians for Biblical Equality Hosts a Conference on
Real Christian Community
Minneapolis, MN—Can you really fight for justice if you don't address patriarchy? Have you ever wondered why God gives gifts to women, if some churches exclude women from using them? Too often women use their God-given gifts outside the church but not within the family of God. Does this make sense? Christians for Biblical Equality's upcoming conference, "Building Biblical Community: Transforming Sex, Power, and prejudice" will answer these questions by painting a full picture of Christian community. Numerous Christian scholars, leaders, and activists will gather in Seattle, WA July 29-31, 2011, to discuss patriarchy, gender, leadership, justice, and what it means to be a biblical body of Christ.
This three day conference will include four plenary sessions on biblical justice and community with gender and the church as the central theme.
Philip B. Payne linguist and author of Man and Woman: One in Christ will start the conference with a lecture on the Biblical foundation for shared authority between men and women in church and home.
Kanyere Eaton pastor at Fellowship Covenant Church in the Bronx, NY will lecture on the difficulties African-American women face in the path to ordination.
Richard Howell, the general secretary of the Asia Evangelical Alliance and Evangelical Fellowship of India, will examine the abuse that results from hierarchical human relationships and the biblical response to dominance.
On Sunday, MaryKate Morse, Quaker minister and author of Making Room for Leadership: Power, Space, and Influence, will lecture on servant leadership, power, and how they work together to create effective leadership.
Further, twenty workshops and panel discussions will examine pornography, abuse, biblical marriage, biblical support for women in ministry, singleness, and leadership. If you have any questions about gender and Christianity you won't want to miss this conference!
