http://www.mcclatchydc.com/256/story/68628.htmlEarthquake fault much larger, more dangerous than thought By Les Blumenthal | McClatchy Newspapers WASHINGTON -- An earthquake fault previously believed to be limited to an area south of Washington state's Whidbey Island actually stretches 250 to 300 miles, from Victoria, B.C., to Yakima, Wash., crossing the Cascade Mountains and capable of producing a major earthquake, new research shows. Many of the other faults in western Washington could be connected to the South Whidbey Island Fault in a network similar to the San Andreas Fault system in California, Craig Weaver, the regional earthquake coordinator for the U.S. Geological Survey based in Seattle, said in an interview Wednesday.

PANGALENGAN, Indonesia (Reuters) - The death toll from an earthquake that struck Indonesia, shattering rural homes and forcing terrified city residents into the street, stood at 42 and was likely to rise, the government said on Thursday. The 7.0 magnitude quake shook buildings in the capital Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon and flattened homes in villages closer to the epicentre in West Java. http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSTRE5811ZL20090903?feedType=RSS&feedName=topNews&sp=true

These poor people! Remember this one? More than 170,000 Indonesians were killed or listed missing after a 9.15 magnitude earthquake off Indonesia's Aceh province on Sumatra triggered a tsunami in December 2004. A total of 230,000 people died in Indian Ocean countries.
Jesus is coming!

Yes, every few days there is a surge of disasters, like 4-5 earthquakes in a day, or tsunamis,or....etc...etc...
It is indeed like a woman's labor...counting down from every 10 min....to five....etc....
God's people need to be awake.

Earthquake Kills 3 in Malawi, Injures Hundreds Sunday, December 20, 2009 * Print * BLANTYRE, Malawi — A strong earthquake destroyed several buildings in Malawi on Sunday, killing at least three people and injuring about 200, a government official said. The quake struck the southeast African country at 1:19 a.m., and the victims included students who were sleeping in a dormitory at a government school, said Gasten Macheka, the commissioner of Karonga district. Macheka said about 270,000 people have been urged to leave their homes for their safety, and that the hard-hit district in northern Malawi urgently needs at least 48,000 tents and medical supplies. "This is a crisis," he said. "We are asking everyone in Karonga not to be in houses or near houses because the situation is unstable. We are appealing to the government and the international community to help us as a matter of urgency." Macheka said at least three people were killed and 200 injured. Many of the victims were treated for injuries such as broken bones and skin lacerations at Karonga District Hospital, but dozens of others were hospitalized there or evacuated to a hospital in Mzuzu city, about 140 miles (230 kilometers) from the epicenter, he said. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake had a magnitude of 6.0, making it strong enough to cause severe damage. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,580674,00.html

A reminder that the rebellion in the world is removing the protection of God. It is an amazing truth to witness God's great patience with such wicked cities as San Francisco, Seattle, Sidney, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, etc. I have expected to see devastation from earthquake in any one of these cities before now. We praise God for his mercy. Let us do the work of warning those in these cities before the earthquake comes. There are some who will turn to Jesus with the whole heart.

Earthquakes are getting more frequent and larger. The Haiti quake is unusual in that it happened in a professing Christian land. Well....there have been large killer quakes in Roman Catholic countries in the past. But most quakes that killed large numbers have been in other religious nations or heathen lands.
We have a listing of killer quakes posted. I will try and find it.

I was just thinking this morning that when multiple disaster strike, how hard it will be for the world to respond. It reminded me of the human wisdom in building the Tower of Babel. Not that help ought not be given, but that in our humanity we think "we" can overcome these acts of "nature". If only we would have built all to "earthquake standards".
When these super structures come down, then what? God does not figure into all of this, but we know that soon He will. Sadly, Satan will take advantage of the situation leading the world astray. Our only security is in Christ.
The last steps will be rapid ones. Let us be about our business. While acknowledging these disasters, we must not be sidetracked from giving the last message of warning so that Jesus may return.

5.9 earthquake shakes northern California February 4th, 2010, 12:59 pm · 32 Comments · posted by Gary Robbins, science writer-editor
Updated 5:15 p.m.
A magnitude 5.9 earthquake erupted beneath the seafloor at 12:20 p.m., 47 miles west-southwest of Eureka, shaking a large area of northern California and parts of the central coast, the U.S. Geological Survey says. The temblor comes less than one month after a 6.5 quake beneath the ocean in a nearby area.
USGS issued a statement saying, “The probability of a strong and possibly damaging aftershock in the next 7 days in approximately 53 percent.” The prediction is based on seismic patterns from previous quakes, and scientist’s understanding of the Mendocino fault zone.Source

Major earthquake in Japan just hours ago. Reports are still sketchy. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2676487/earthquake_hits_off_coast_of_japan.htmlThe Examiner said: The magnitude-6 earthquake occurred only hours after the Japanese region was struck by two 4.8 and 4.6 magnitude earthquakes in the Izu Islands. Another earthquake, a magnitude-5 quake, also hit Japan on Friday.

In light of the recent powerful earthquakes in Haiti and Chile, as well as one last night in Japan that registered 7.0, some are wondering if the earth is more active than usual. One scientists says yes: " However, "relative to the 20-year period from the mid 1970's to the mid 1990's, the Earth has been more active over the past 15 or so years," said Stephen S. Gao, a geophysicist at Missouri University of Science & Technology. "We still do not know the reason for this yet" Others say it is business as usual. I wonder how long it will be before they have to recognize that something abnormal is happening? Source
