Title: Answered Prayer
Post by: Laurie Mosher on February 15, 2000, 09:19:00 AM
   Dear Forum Members,

We have as topics now, "Testimones" and "Prayers". Richard and I, believe it would be very appropriate to have a topic called "Answered Prayer".

So with this in place, we are all looking forward to hearing HOW your prayers have been answered-in the past, and now- in the present.

The Holy Scriptures invite us to "Ask, and it shall be given unto you" Matt.7:7

And again in Isaiah 58:9 "Then shalt thou call . and the Lord shall answer."

  In His love and Grace,
    Br. Laurie  =:)

Laurie,
This forum is not long enough, wide enough, high enough, or deep enough for all my answered prayers.  I feel it is this way also for everyone on this forum.  Who will go first.....my stories are long ones..is there a maximum word count? Praise the Lord.

God Bless,

He who is last shall be first and he is first shall be last. In this case after a period of waiting for others to go first, I shall happily praise my Saviour for His answer to my prayer. When I discussed this thread with Brother Laurie, I did not have in mind posting any thing, I just knew what a blessing it would be to all of us to hear of God's miracles and to share what He has done in response to our prayers.

I began the "Prayers" topic by sharing concerning my friend Viorika and her prayers for my children. There is more to the story. She lived with her mother who was not a Christian. Her mother was emotionally distraught at the funeral. She had just lost her only daughter who was also her sole means of support. She had no hope for her daughter's resurrection for she had no Saviour.

I explained to her that her daughter had a faith that would allow her to come back to life and that life, would be eternal. This calmed her fears and she was able to regain control of her emotions.

Some months later I was back home and I received a telephone call from Romania with some very good news. That's right, Viorika's mother had given her heart to Jesus and was a  member of the church Viorika had belonged to.  Every time I think of God's work in this family's life, I praise His holy name!

Think about this. Soon Viorika will come forth from the grave, in the first resurrection. Contemplate the joy she will have when she sees her mother raised in the same ressurection. Her mother who was not a Christian when Viorika died! God heard the prayer of a daughter for her mother and answered the prayer after the daughter died.

Faith, my dear friends, faith in the ability of our God to answer our prayers even when we go into the silence of the grave with them unanswered.

In His love and grace,   Richard

   Well, as Charlene said,
This should be a very interesting column. And I would like to continue the theme with this "Answer to prayer".

In 1981, Bev and I lived in Hanford, Ca. One Christmas we travelled to British Columbia to spend Christmas with Bev's parents. The whole trip was an experience that I will never forget. Enroute, we hit a blizzard in Portland, Oregon, where we were stormed-stayed for 3 days.  On our return trip, we were mororing along quite well until we "missed" the turnoff at Stockton. We usually turned off Inter #5 to #99 ;but "somehow" missed the turnoff. By this time the hour was quite late, and we had hoped to be home that evening.

The vehicle I was driving had power windows , and we had been listening to FM classical music when suddenly the radio went "dead". So I began to get suspicious. The windows would not operate, and the headlights were getting dim. I-5 traffic was
minimal, but we were almost out in the "middle of nowhere" .I deduced that the alternator was gone, so I asked the family aboard to pray that we could find a garage close by. Looking at the map, we took the Los Banos exit heading for Chowchilla. Approximately 5 miles  out of town, everything died except the motor, which was running very rough We straggled into town, and about 20 feet from a telephone booth the engine died.DEAD! I managed to call a garage and shortly a tow truck arrived. It was the alternator all right...and what do you believe the chances are of finding an alternator for a Chrysler at 11PM?  The only one on hand belonged to a Chev. But the odd thing was, the fellow who ordered it had not come to get it...The mechanic decided to try and see if it would fit ...it did! Perfect fit. Within an hour we were on our way home again, PRAISING the Lord the whole way! The rest of the trip was uneventful!

I've often thought about that experience! What would have happened had I not missed the turnoff? #99 highway is very busy, and we could very well have been involved in an auto accident.

I remember an aunt who was travelling with us quoting Psalm 34:7 "The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear Him and delivereth them."

Well that was just one of the many times Prayer has been answered.
Driving through the middle of a tornado wasn't a great thrill either...but that's another story!

   Keep "the" faith!

Dear friends,

This story goes back a few years, however it is quite fresh in my mind. I will try to not make it too long.

In my adult years of rebellion, I met and married a "swinging bachelor". We tasted 'pleasure' for many seasons.

My mother, an SDA and sad at my departure from the faith, became ill and it became a cronic illness so we moved her into our home.
When she was well enough, I took her to 'her' church, and it was a 15 mile ride one way, so I stayed with her. Well, I became very interested again in 'Her' God. The little 35 member church showed so much love for her and me that we developed friends. When mother became worse and could no longer attend, the pastor called on her to visit. That gave me warm feelings too. One member wrote encouraging words to mother each week, and she looked forward to these notes of cheer. When mother passed away, I notified the sender of these notes, of mom's demise and she wrote asking if she could continue to send them to me...A happy 'yes' I returned. And she followed through.

I told Bob I was missing the church of my early years and wished to return. We had never talked about God before. He said He would not stop me, but to not ever think he would go...all religion was for money, money.
This was when we were living in upper state New York, and we had decided to move from this 'winter state' to a warmer climate. We sold and joined friends in NC. I prayed, Lord, if you can arrange it...have a study group i can join so I might restudy all the things i have forgotten through the years. Guess who was having a seminar when we arrived. Joe Crews. I missed one meeting, of the one month series. If a refresher course could be any better...well it just couldn't. I also had done lots of singing in the church in former years so I asked if I had to be baptized to sing in the choir. The pastor told me no, and I was welcomed into the choir.  Bob is still swinging.....

One rainy choir practice evening. Bob said he didn't want me to drive in 'this weather' alone. "I'll take you and just sit and read in the church while you practice." Good Idea!
Well the weather was so bad that not one base showed up. My Bob, a 'barber shop quartette base' background, sitting in the back, reading his book was asked if he could sing?
"yes", he lold them..."base"  'Would you mind sitting in for the bases tonight?'.  "Be happy to," he replied. Well the angels sang with him and at the end of practice the director asked if he would like to join. Well, he loves to sing so of course he said 'yes'. My heart was jumping for joy.
As were were going home..He said,'now I am not going to go to that first meeting you go to, I'll take you to the early meeting and then come when we are to sing."  [I was attending the pastors class for newcomers].
I said that is okay, however, instead of going back and forth, why don't you come just once and see if you like it...then decide. That is what he did and he continued with me each week. The choir is the main ingredient in the story. This became our church family in a way that the whole congregation could not.[350 members in congregation]. This was a personal loving group. After friends were made, bible studies followed. I had decided to become rebaptized and was thrilled that my nearly teenage grandchildren wanted to be baptized with grandma. My entire Adventist family was praying for us. Our bible studies went deeper and deeper and Daniel and Rev. studies too. We read all the time and God blessed. Family was sending books. My mother had a great library of Ellen White and I have them all, thank God, He saw to it they were where they should be.

Our last study before we traveled to California to join my family to be baptized, Bob says, "I want to be baptized too." He stopped 'swinging', and did not want to 'swing' any more. Jesus filled the void.

What a joyous occasion it was to be buried in Christ with our grandchildren. All our families together for this wedding.[1988] Praise God from whom all blessings fall.

God is Love,
charlene

Dear ones,
Thanks for listening, We praise God for all the blessings he has given us. Bob and I talk frequently about how He was caring for us when we didn't even acknowledge His existance. His patience and love never failed.

I said at the begining of this thread, Laurie, there was not room enough for my answers to prayer. Well, this is part two of the story above.

At the end of the Bible studies, just before our leaving for California,  Bob had commited to baptizm, I called Elder W. and said. "Bob hasn't taken off his rings yet. Maybe he didn't understand the importance of the jewelry in our study. Could you come once again and give us a study of some important subject and mix in with it more on the removal of jewelry?" "Of course", was his reply and we scheduled an extra study just before we left. Still no response from Bob and his rings. He wore his diamond wedding band and a beautiful 5 point star saphire with diamonds. A beautiful man's ring.

I had many friends in the church when my selfish ambition tore me away. A pastor of special value to me had consented to bapitze Bob and Me. I was looking forward to a reunion with him on this occasion. My children had taken care of all the details in California, so Bob and I left SC to wend our way west. Departure day, the hands that grasped the steering wheel, still had the rings. Each day I cried to God to open His eyes. Each day the rings were there. Family members were making this a matter of prayer. As we journied our way, during frequent calls to the family, I was asked "mom, are the rings off yet?" I just said and unexplainable 'no'.

Four days past, four nights, with tears on my pillow, begging God to take convict and press on His heart the need to remove his rings. The trip was pleasant, no problems. It was early spring and the scenery in many states was coming alive.

It was lunch time but the little town in Arizona was still a few miles away. Both Bob and I LOVE mexican food, and when we enterd the town, what was the first restaurant we saw, "Mexican food". We teased that our car was beyond control when there was mexican food about, seemed it just drove itself in and parked. We were seated and given menus. Bob pointed to what he wanted and told me to order while he washed his hands. The chips and Salsa arrived and I ordered. I was munching chips dipped in this good hot stuff when he returned. He sat down, took a chip, and handed me his rings. I said, "what's this"?  "Well" he said, "if they don't serve a purpose, then they are just adornment, so I took them off". "My this Salsa is HOT." I said with tears roling down my cheeks!!

We arrived safe and sound the next day. With greetings and hugs exchanged, we took a walk on the dusty paths of a vineyard where my daughter lived. Bob and J went one direction and my daughter and I took another path, it felt so good to have reached our destination and stretch our legs.

I couldn't wait to tell her what had happened in Arizona. As I was giving her every little detail, I saw liquid pools gathering in her eyes. "Mom, what time was your lunch?" She asked. "I think about 1:00PM or 1:30PM..Why"?
"yesterday, at work, during the lunch hour, Elder M. came in to see me. He said 'we won't be having any trouble with rings with your folks will we? I won't baptize any one wearing jewelry.' I told him no, there would not be any problem. Then, mom, I found a quiet place at work and knelt to pray. With the time change, it would be the same time as your lunch." Now the tears flowed.

Is our God good or not?
Praise His Name,
charlene

Sister Charlene and Brother Bob....do you think this is what God had in mind for our church? The opportunity and responsibility to share His goodness to the children of men? What a joy!  Oh, that our churches would receive the blessings that God has to bestow!

Thank you so much for sharing again, the rest of the story. This is the way we get closer to each other. Our testimonies and our prayers will bind us one to another. When we get to heaven, by God's grace, we will already be one big happy and blessed family!

There are so many testimonies of God's love and power in our lives that we will have to move to a much larger account with our server in order to hold all that are coming!!

I have two experiances that I will share with my friends.
Last year our division (SPD) sent out to all leaders within the churches a program of meetings that would take place and be available on satellite to those churches that have it and encouraged those that did not to purchase one. We held a special business meeting to discuss this item.We are only a small church of about 35 members and most would be on low incomes, myself included. The cost of the equipment was close to $3000 and many were against it. We prayed and set before the church members all the facts and then voted, 8 to 4 in favour. The Pastor told us a few days later that he had contacted the Conference office at 1.00pm on a particular day and was asked by the Ministerial Sec. were we going to apply for a subsidy on the dish. We did not know that we were entilted to any. he applied over the phone and the next day was told that we would receive $2000 to help with the expenses. We did not know how or where the money would come from but praise to our Lord for hearing our prayers and seeing fit to answer them in a positive way.
Family worship this morningm I prayed for general care and guidence for the day particularly as we travelled and the kids went to school (they travel about 30 miles on the busy highway by bus), we always pray for protection. Five miles from home as we were going through the next small town, my wife said there's John and out of the corner of my eye I seen him, sure enough it was John and his wife. They have not been to church for nearly 12 months, we did not know where they had even gone to. We stopped and flagged them down, completly surprising them and us. We had a short talk as we were on the way to our church to check out some things for the dish. When we got to church the cleaner was there and we told her about what had happened. She said she had been praying for them but did not know where they had been or anything about them. They will go past our place every time they go into Brisbane and am sure they will call in. He said to me "Clive pray for me I am doing it tough" I said don't worry John I will put your name down and have people everywhere praying for both of you. Let's all pray for John and Elaine.
If we had of been just five seconds slower or faster we would have missed them. The Lord hears our prayers.
Regards
Clive & Theresa

Happy Sabbath everyone,
I must relate the story of one of our members at church, She gave this testimony during Sabbath School. I will try to remember it as well as I can...

Shirley's Husband works for a company that sends him all over the world. He was on his way to Arabia, when she recieved word that his sister was dying. She needed to reach him immediately, but had no idea where he would be in his flight plan.  She called a Travel Agent to gain information on Flight ###. Was told that her only hope in reaching him was if there was a lay over in Brussels and if so he would probably be in one of these two hotels and gave shirley the two numbers.
She paryed over the numbers and chose one. She prayed the desk clerk would know english and understand her if she could get through. She dialed the number prayerfully. It rang three times then...she heard "Hello", and it was her husband....direct, without desk clerk, room number, and rarely did he have a lay over, but this time he did. He was in church also. I think all of us got goose bumps when we realized just what God will do when we need him for every thing that touches our lives. Isn't God Good?

Amen, Sister Charlene. Thank for sharing that blessing.

Yesterday I asked for your prayers. I don't know who prayed, but today I want to thank you, whoever offered up a prayer for me. The Lord expects us to pray for ourselves and this I did, but when I began the prayer topic, I expressed the joy of knowing there are others praying for the salvation of my children.

I don't have time today to go into detail, but the Lord has done a wonderful thing in answer to prayer. My son, Michael who was estranged from me when a young boy is living in our home as of yesterday. He is 21 and is going through some very difficult times. He will be with us, God willing, for a month and then will be gone. When I asked for prayer I had no idea that this would be God's response. His blessings are much greater than we can imagine.

My brothers and sisters, the Lord has spoken to us in regards to how we should live our lives in every area whether it be worship, dress, diet, work, or whatever. We have specific counsel and by God's grace my family and I choose to follow it. You can imagine the difficulty that can pose for us and my son while he is in our home. I continue to ask for your prayers that the Lord will grant us wisdom from on high, for mine is foolishness. God will forgive us when we come to Him asking, but the consequences of making wrong choices sometimes are very great in the lives of those around us. God can keep me from erring and this is my prayer.

God is more than good!

We had our special prayer meeting for Bro Ainslie and Bro & Sis Braun last night (Tuesday) and you could just about feel that the spirit of togetherness was real. We all prayed for them and others, sharing with our group of our forum members who were also praying for them. Our Pr. spoke on James 5 and then went over to 2 Kings 18,19 and recounted the story of Hezekiah of how God heard and saw the tears that were offered up when he prayed and had compassion and answered the prayers. We also prayed for protection as we went home. On the way home we really needed it as just a few miles from church a big beast decded to cross the road in front of me, no way I could stop but swerved on to the wrong side to miss him as he went to the other side of the road, We all just thanked God for keeping us safe as we travelled. Some would call it luck or chance, I call it divine protection.
Thankyou all for your prayers.

  Amen Clive!
God's angels certainly protect us. I drove thru the middle of a tornado that was bearing down on me in California (Fresno). It tore out 3 foot wide walnut trees, and mortar blocks (the big grey ones with holes in them)were going around my car. A plank of wood 2in x 8in x 12 feet long headed straight toward my windshield, and suddenly veered off passing betwen the radio antenna on the car fender and the windshield without hitting either. Let me asure you, the whole time I was PRAYING. Not a scratch on the car afterward!
Praise the Lord for His protection. I wonder how many times we have been in danger and haven't known it?

Praise God, Brother Laurie!

Sometimes we may wonder why God allows us to go through nerve shatering experiences like you have just described.  It is to show us God's power to save!  There are many times when we are saved when we are unaware of the danger we were in.  We do not always remember to thank God for His providence and protection.  It is dramaticly brought home when we are brought into dire circumstances, yet emerge unscathed!  (Isaiah 43:1-3)  Thank you, Jesus!

Hi all!
As many of you probably know, on December 27, 1999, I was in a car accident. But this story is not about the accident or even about what has happened in my life since. No, this story is about my dad.

My dad is one of the lay preachers in our church. Twice a month, he speaks at one of the three churches in our area. Well, one of the women of our church approached him about a sermon he was to do on New Year's Day. As many of you know, that day was the Day of Prayer in the NAD. Well, this woman called and asked if my dad would talk about prayer. He told her that he wasn't comfortable talking about prayer as he doesn't know as much about the subject as he should. Well, she agreed to let him choose his topic and they hung up the phone. She turned to her daughter and related the situation to her. Her daughter suggested that they pray for my dad to have an experience with prayer that he could talk about.

Monday morning, Dec. 27th, before he even got out of bed, my dad was impressed to pray for his family, Dave (my fiance), DeAnna (my sister), my mom, and me. That had NEVER happened before! Before he even got out of bed! Well, he got up, and went about the day. I helped him deliver newspapers that day and at the end of the day, we came home.

I needed new glasses and we were heading into the city to WalMart to get them. We left at around 6:00-6:30pm. At about 7:00pm, my dad was, again, impressed to pray for his family. At 7:15pm, we were hit head-on by a car that had crossed the median. No one was killed. As far as I know, the worst injury was "bestowed" upon me.  :) I got a fractured hip. Because of the severity of the accident, many people thought someone had died in the crash. Only by God's grace did we live through it! I thank Him every day for the life he has given me!

Dearest Stephanie, no I don't know. Well...let me say I didn't think I knew. With all the under cover names and no last names and 3,500 on one forum and 4,000 on another, with  people coming and going, the names sometimes don't ring a bell.

But all of a sudden with your post the lights came on! I spend quite a bit of time in the prayer section of Adventists Online. I had no idea I had been praying for you!    :) And not only I.....

God does answer prayer. You being here with us is an answer to mine and Brother Laurie's prayers.

My sister Stephanie S was in a car accident yesterday (12/27). She, our mother, our sister, and her fiance were riding along and were struck head-on by another car. The driver of the car had a seizure  and went over the center line. Stephanie has a dislocated hip and is in a lot of pain. Please pray for her speedy recovery. This would mean SO much to me! Our mother has a broken rib and a sprained  wrist, our sister got away with just a bunch of bruises, and   Stephanie's fiance has a sprained wrist, and a cut on his forehead.

But, PRAISE GOD!!!! They are all alive!!! Thanks again for your prayers!

Brother Clive was missing from his duties as one of the moderators for the Sabbath School forum for a week or so and we all became very concerned, for he did not say he would be gone for such a long time. I put him on our prayer list, that the Lord would return him safe to us. We now thank the Lord for doing so!  :) We don't realize our blessing as we should. What if your computer crashed today? Brother Clive's did and we all suffered with him. Angels that excel in strength keep watch over us and our computers as we labour for the Master. Post by: Filipe Reis on March 28, 2000, 02:47:00 PM
  Dear forum members!
Some days ago, I posted asking you to pray for me and my girlfriend who is not an adventist. The request was answered by dear brother Richard, and others that I'm not aware by now, I'm sure. Here, I continued asking God to put more light in my mind so I could make right decisions concerning my girlfriend's subject.
Let me share with you what happened. We have talked about ourselves, discussed friendly our problems and reached an agreement. We think the best is for us to keep only friends. We choosed this way with no conflit and in thoughts harmony!
It can be very sad for us, bur personaly I'm sure this is God's answer. I believe He has shown us what's best for both of us. Sometimes what He knows to be the best for us, isn't quite what we want.
Again, thank you very much dear Laurie for inviting me here. I can see that this forum is already working for me, 'cause I've solved a problem that had been concerning me a lot, thanks to Him and to your praires.
 Hope to post again soon.
 Filipe Reis, Portugal.

Brother Filipe, Jesus is coming soon as you pointed out in your post in Signs of the Times, and your prayers for wisdom to discern God's purpose for you is not only being answered, by God is giving you power to follow Him!  It is a joy to hear your testimony.  Many make shipwreck of their faith and their lives by moving contrary to God.

If it is best for you and your friend to get married, God will work it out in the future. As friends you will get to know each others character in a way that will reveal if Jesus is the pattern for your lives. You will see if she can accept the truth that would be required in order to have a happy union that would glorify Jesus.  We continue to pray for you and her.

It is good indeed to have you with us and to share in your experience with Christ. (BTW, your English is very good!)

In His love and grace,     Richard

As we prayed for Jerry and his family yesterday it really is amazing that the acreator God of this universe will use people such as myself in His plans. It is humbling to think that is what take place.

Today I went into Boonah with my older brother Ray, he went in for a medical dressing on his infected leg. Things did not work out as planned as he forgot to get his change from paying for his pills and also forgot to pick up his new pills. We then went to the nursery and then he remembered them so back to the hospital to get them. Ray them asked to go to the shop and bank, taking more time as I was supposed to be back home to take the kids to athletics training, I was just not going to make it on time. I hate being late and had to try and put on a happy face. I did. Finally as I went back to the school with my young boy we passed Jerry on the road and waved to him. When I stopped Jerry was behind me and got out, after some small talk he asked me, "What time does your church start on Sabbath"
I nearly fell over. We have prayed for him now for over 12 months, last week he was at a city SDA church and would like to come to our church. Talk about an answer to prayer. It is amazing to think God hears and answers prayer.
When I giot home I called all the family around and related in detail what had taken place and then had a season of prayer together. We all just praise the Lord for putting it in Jerries heart to ask. I told himm about our outreach programs coming up in the Harrisville Church in May and he woyulkd loke to come,
Just look at it, the timing of me passing Jerry and him seeing me, just a few seconds either way and we would not have seen each other. I ask, who made brother Ray forget his pills, want the paper and then go to the bank and on the way home call into the fruit shop? Just so I could pass him at the right time.
ONLY OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR
Praise the Lord again

Brothers & Sisters, praise the Lord. Jerry was in Sabbath School & Church today.Isn't that woderful and cause for much rejoicing.
He is now off to attend a baptism at Colleges Crossing on the Brisbane River near Ipswich. We had Communion at Harrisville today and have just got back home, the first thing I wanted to do was put this good news on the Forum before most would go to church. Now I ask another faviour, please pray for Jerry at this baptism today. He is married with kids the same age as ours. It will be hard for him by himself but we have seen miracles already, so anything is possible. He asked if could get a lesson study guide, with the new quarter already started and no lesson guides left, we photo copied next weeks lesson for him.
I rang him up this morning and he was going nowhere as his fuel tank was emty in the car and was nearly out of money. I told him that I would ring back latter. He said when I rang back that his wife had found an extra $15 so he could get some fuel.
The Lord is leading in his life.
Keep praying & thanks for your prayers.

I brought to your attention some time ago a problem that the adventist church was having in Australia about the receivers not arriving on time for the satellite program with Geoff Youlden. Last night I received an email from our Pr. to say that 48 of them had just arrived in Sydney and were being dispatched immediatley to the churches. It means that we will have them in time for the program. Praise the Lord for answering our prayers in this matter.
Thankyou to all my fellow members for bringing to God this request.

It has been a while since I last came to this thread, but I feel a necessity to share with you what has happened since the last visit.

As you know,my family was in an accident on the 27th of Dec. last year.

Steph received the worst injury with a broken and dislocated hip.
She made it thru surgery and rehab and came home.

Then she was diagnosed with 2 different bacterial infections. She required another surgery and then intraveinous antibiotics.
Over the period of about 6 weeks, she went from those to oral antibiotics.

3 weeks ago,she was pronounced 'clear' of all infection.
She was also told that the hip was 'heajed',about 2 months earlier than they expected. They were surprised,we weren't...we were exstatic.
God is SOOO good.

He is LORD!
May He come soon.

Our night finally arrived when we would start our satellite evangelism. We are all new to this type of outreach. I welcomed the folk and praise the Lord there were eight people from the community there. As the transmission time approached we could not help but feel anxious. We had prayed that everthing would be OK, but it wasn't. The sound was not in English, what were we to do. I know many were praying, our Pr. went through all the controls and reset it all again but to no avail. I asked the man standing next to me to come outside and pray. Believe it or not but when we came in, it was now in English. My only regret now is that I wished I had of went up the front and prayed publicly for the problem to be fixed.
Apart from that small problem all else went well, our church folk came to support the program. One lady asked for the Jesus video to view at home. We just leave it in the Lord's hand and ask you to continue to pray for our outreach, Thanks to Bro. Laurie for bringing our prayer requests to your attention
Praise the Lord.

Moved from another thread-
Posted by Brother David Battler........

Hello Brothers and sisters in Christ

I thought you would be interested to hear a followup of my prayer request above about the tornado and those two children.

The boys of my friend were OK; but 11 people were killed, one of them a two year old boy snatched right out of the mother's hands by the wind.

I went to Pine Lake a short while ago because I am going to do some repairs to a lady's trailer there, and the devastation is so severe...trees all sheered off at the 5 or 6 foot level, all the trailers at the park were being piled up by a backhoe into piles of twisted metal, as it was pulled out of the lake...it was sobering indeed...

I asked the five year old boy if he was scared during the big storm; and he said: "No!  Jesus was in the room the whole time!"

Moved from "Very Urgent Prayer Requests" thread--Posted by Joan Rügemer.....

David,

A baby gone with the wind ? I could hardly eat my lunch thinking about that report. Alf said this grubbling about it is not good for me so I was invited to go to the next town with him for car tire change service. It seemed so odd walking the calm, well manicured shopping street with lots of peaceful looking satisfied people going leisurely here and there, and me visualizing how the Tornado wiped out the tranquility of those people's lives up there where you are.

Your friends sons ok ? What actually was the answer to your(this group's ) prayer ?

Everyone! When I asked you to pray for my husband, I didn't tell him about it at all. I didn't want to influence him one way or another. Anyway, today he came up to me and said "do you realize that I've only had one cigarette today?" Amazing! Praise the Lord. I don't know how this will continue to play out with him, but I do know that God is working in him to remove the desire. God is good all the time, and all the time God is good!!!

I recently posted a prayer request that God would open the doors for my girlfriend to study medicine at Loma Linda this upcoming year with me.  We both desire to be medical missionaries and so I fervently believed that God would allow BOTH of us to be accepted.  Well, just this past friday (01/19/01) she received a call from Loma Linda and was told she also has been accepted as a member of the 2001-2002 freshman entering class.  Praise God!  Now we can both commit ourselves to achieving God's dreams for our lives together!  Thank you for all your prayers!

Again I find myself the first to respond, and I thank Him again. Praise be to our God. I am so very happy for the both of you.

Now remember, I will only be a stone throw from you in LA County to San Bernardino County in California, so do write when you get here.

Dear Lord:

You are indeed a powerful God and an answer to their prayers was given, because you opened the minds of those that would make the dicision for them to both be here has come to pass.

We still ask that you help them with the financial burdens that are being place upon them and that they would be free of these debts so that they both can go right to the mission field, because we all know Lord, time is running out and we need to reach many as possible, because the winds of strife are  falling upon a world ill prepared to deal with that which is about to come upon us all.

Many do not know the wonderful rich experience that can be had in knowing you, knowing your Sabbath day of rest. Let these two young people be an instrument of your teaching to those that will come across their path.

In Jesus name I thank you.

Liane

While off line brother Ray had to spend some time in hospital.
I took some things into him and the last item to be picked up was his medical records.
They could not be found anywhere.
One last look and still no records, I called the kids over and suggested we have prayer. Within a short time there were the records we had been looking for.
Ray is back home now and I told him how we found the records and about God hearing   our prayer. He is not a believer so it may make an impact on him. He siad this morning we can all pray for rain and then corrected himself and said you can as there is no use me praying I have no faith. I went bonto explain that Jesus said that all we need is faith the size of a mustard seed, which is very small.
If brother Ray ever becomes a Christian it really would be a miricle.
Keep praying for him.

It is an adorable little farm house with 4 barns and 7 acres. It has a beautiful creek with a bridge and a wonderful place for a treehouse. Thank you everyone for your prayers. I am most likely through the worst of the physical part. The mental part, not wanting the pills, but knowing the person I was on the drugs and admitting my part in it is horrible. It's liberating and horrid all at the same time. That third day proved to be the worst because an awful situation happened with Howard that resulted in him being out of the home, and I have to admit my part in it. On this forum it's always been poor little me. Not ever admitting that I was more than just a victim. So it's time to grow up. I'm not going to go into the details, but suffice it to say that I see myself now with clarity I believe, and I see Howard. I see Howard as not the cause of all my problems, like before, but a hurting child of God that is a product of his environment and in need ever so much more than I imagined. Howard being sent to another facility in the long run turned out to be of benefit to him, all God's plan once we stop running. Howard was put in a position where he had to choose to succumb to his disability, or stand up and learn to live again. Well, he stood up. Literally. :) Two years almost to the day, he stood,  in a standing frame. Before that he had refused any therapy and treatment and was hanging onto COPES out of fear that he was nothing more than an invalid. He chose to let that go, and he says that he now feels like he has a purpose. He is no longer afraid. Sometimes the people that love you most (me and others, but me) enable the disability. His words. So he needed me to let go. So he could learn to be who he is meant to be. Without being held in a box. So, I'm sure there are more bumps, but this is such a positive step. He is smiling with genuine pleasure in his face and especially his eyes.

Thank you Lord for answering our prayers and not always giving us what we want.

Amen.

Hi Sister Wendy:

Thank you for being so honest and sharing. That is always the first step in the growth that God gives us in our walk with Him.

It took great courage to confess, but the release in doing so is far greater and our lives are transformed for doing so.

Trusting in Jesus and letting Him take control is the only way. Living day by day seeking His wisdom will enable even the weakest of souls to grow.

Will keep both you and Howard in my prayers.

Jesus and I aren't going to let him."  Amen

Wendy remember when you confeesed all the wrongs you have done and repented for your sins, Our Loving Christ earases them out of the heavenly books, they are forgotten in Christs mind.  Let it also be forgotten in yours and believe it.  I have been there.  I think most parents have years of guilt and sadness, whereby they are sorry for their actions with their children, and how they treated them at times. But is it over now and a new life is begun....again I say CONGRATULATIONS.....

I just had to share with you all what God has done for me and my family now.

I haven't had a job in five years. I had been charged with a felony and because I was afraid to fight it, I plead guilty. It put an end to my career in the health care field.

Well, a couple weeks ago, I called to apply for a job as a caregiver. Then realizing I couldn't get paid by the state with a felony, I tried to cancel the interview. The gentleman insisted on interviewing me and liked me enough to want to hire me. He knew about the felony and said that we should try anyway.

I went in to have a criminal background check run by DSHS and figured that was about the end of it. As I waited for the check to come back, I put my head on the table and prayed.

The gentleman came back and said.....GOOD NEWS! Your report came back with no criminal background on it. My report was COMPLETELY CLEAN!!! I had run it six months ago and the felony was there, so I KNOW that God miraculously erased it!!!

So, long story short, I was contracted on the spot with the state of Washington and got the job! PRAISE THE LORD!!!!  He literally freed me from my prison. I never thought I'd be able to work again, much less in the health field.

As a major bonus, this also means that I can finish my nursing degree! With a felony, I couldn't become a nurse, so my hopes and dreams were dashed for good, or so I thought. I don't think we'll be here much longer, but it is a wonderful feeling to know that God opened that door back up for me. Maybe I can still do it, I don't know. But I do know that I can now earn enough money to support my family for the first time in five years!

Thank you Jesus!

God could and would if He were sought!

AMEN!!!

Praise the Lord Sister Wendy. God indeed is so good. I feel He is doing these things just to let us know with solid proof that He is there and that He really cares about us. He is soon coming and He wants us ready for the storm ahead. Ready to follow Him without "feeling" of Him near. (Jesus did not feel God near). Ready to give up all for Him, ready to speak for truth regardless of anything. He is preparing us "Now". Thank you for sharing with us. We are so happy for you.  :)

Sister Marie

Dearest Wendy,
What a joy  to hear your story.  What an inspiration! With tears I praise our loving God for what He did for you. Whoa!  You sure have had your problems, and trials, and apparently you are traveling that right road now.  God is so good.  God bless you and your family.

Jesus loves us and has a million ways to provide for us. We are not surprised when He works these miracles, or at least we ought not be.  :) We rejoice with you, dear Sister Wendy! Keep this answer to prayer in your mind always. The devil will try and steal the blessing, but you can keep him from doing so by remembering how much God loves you and your family.

Yes, the devil has already tried. We aren't going to let him though. He can harm the body, but the heart is Christ. Therein lies the only safety. Satan is trying to make me very ill, and is attacking my mind as well, but God is preserving me for a purpose and that keeps me going. What miracles to focus on! These things keep us in Him when the going gets so hard. It is such a blessing to know our Lord!

God bless you all!

Hi all, so much has happened since this last post of mine....lots of agony. I lost that job almost right away due to abuse in the family...mine.

So, skipping a whole bunch of ugly stuff that has happened, I just got another job! It's just as dishwasher in an upper-class restaurant, but the manager/owner hopes to bring me up through the ranks...busperson/waitress/then chef. The dishwashing is hard business! I hurt all over today...but I am praising God for His goodness. With Howard in prison ( :( ) the sole support for the family falls to me. For months I was steeped in depression and felt unable to accomplish even the simplest task, such as cleaning my own home or cooking. Now, through the most unlikely source (my ex-landlord) the Lord has provided a means of support as well as the energy and lift out of depression, to maintain it.

Thank you Jesus!

I'd just like to share an answered prayer.

I am an active moutain biker and am a member of a online mountain bike community.

I became aware of a fellow rider who was injured serverly in Nova Scotia, Canada.  He was involved in a accident in which a car with four occupants ran over his chest and his head.  He was given little chance to live.

Recently I have been reading Roger Morneau's 'Incredible Answers to Prayer' series of books and decided I would try intercessory prayer.

I actively prayed well over a month for healing of this man, and he has made miraculous progress.  He went from being in ICU in a coma, to resting at home now.  The doctors and nurses are amazed at his progress.

I'd just thought I share this to show how faith and prayer can have a profound effect.

Amen, SA! We too little value the opportunity for prayer. God does indeed want us to come to Him with our petitions and to believe we receive what we ask for. And then He expects us to tell of His love and power as you have done. Thanks for sharing. It may be just what one of our readers needs to hear today or mayber a year from now while reading through "Answered Prayer".

Let us continue to pray for one another and those whom God places in our paths.

Thank you everyone for the many prayers for my wife in regards to the job situation concerning the Sabbath and other things.

At this point this company she works for has dropped their issue with the drug test and their statements they have made and gave another test without any questions.

The Sabbath issue which started off this problem has been dropped and nothing more has been said. The one comment made by the local management was that she is the best employee!

We believe that satan is not done with his work until Jesus comes, and we expect many more attacks. Maybe on her job, or from the church, health, the family... who knows. It does not matter where it comes from. What matters is... who are we going to serve? This will be Jesus by His Grace.

I have been in pain that has kept me down for 11 days now. A friend of mine told me about something a SDA nurse told her they use for hospis patients with canser. Putting Castor oil inbetween a chuck and taping it up again. Then tape it to the area with pain. It has been helping me alot, just drawing the pain out. I do not know yet whether it will heal it in time or not, but if not, it sure is providing relief, something I Praise God for.

Please pray that this help will heal the cause of the pain, according to His Will, so I can get back to normal.

Thank you  :)

Thank you everyone. I am not free from pain, but where it was a 10 before in pain and stiffness, it is a 4 now. What a blessing!!

Yes, pain sure does wear a person down. I had tried medication with little help. I have a thermo-mist hot pad I bought from Apple Valley by Andrews U. It helps my other pains, but did not help this. I used ice and other than releaving it till it was no longer frozen it did not help either. It seemed like I was trying everything till I found out about the castor oil I was getting ready to let them give me a shot. It is looking like I'll not need it now. I'm off all of the medication compleatly as of yesterday when I started the castor oil treatment. GOD IS SO GOOD. I understood my friend to say they tried it and it worked, that is why I had faith in it. Now to find out that they did not try it. God was in there making me think that they did try it.

Oh, and it is good to see so many on actively, that is great!!  :) God bless each and every one of you.

Thank you dear. I need it too. Mine and Carols backs are not good right now. But thanks to the castor oil patches the pain is really cut down and I can do much more. Carol won't let me use it on her. Pleasee pray that this will change. Anything that would help at all she will not do much. She is back to sleeping on the couch again and that is no good for her back. Thank you for your continued prayers.

I know that was tough being without electricity for 9 days. Even though I was raised without electricity in the house where we lived, and I was 19 before ever having it, I miss it now when it is not on.  I thought 30 hours was a long time for it to be off, not knowing how long it might be off and wondering if we had enough water, and using old fashioned lamps.  The thought came to me then, "I wonder how I would make it in the time of trouble?"

I am so thankful for cop and Tirza and all the others.  But, for those who lost everything in the hurricane, well, I cannot even imagine how terrible that would be.

This is a very heartfelt praise, and a "thank you" to those who have prayed for my eye surgery and the correction of my double vision.
Today, I got another lens put into my glasses frame, with a different kind of prism in it. (The first one did not work.) I can hardly believe it, but it works! The double vision is gone with my glasses on. I did not drive home, but could have.  I told my husband "This is the first time in such a long time that I am seeing the right number of lines in the road!"  I realize now that I was seeing everything in a "fractured" state, like part of it here, and then again beside itself. It has been painful to even be outside, because it was distance vision and bright light that affected me.

After camp meeting, I want to get started on computer glasses, for I sure cannot do well with these on the computer, and not very well with no glasses at all, so it is difficult now.  BUT...I can now drive!  I was so afraid I would lose that ability, and one loses so much when they do.  Praise our Lord for the miracles He works through good, dedicated doctors.  O, yes, my optometrist is a Christian and a Methodist; he teaches a Sunday School class of people about my age.

Special thanks to you, dear Sybil, for prayers, letters and encouragement, and to all of you!

We have so much to be thankful for each day. Even outside of Christ, we received temporal life, sunshine, and rain. God loves us. My wife had a serious eye difficulty as I shared in the Prayer Request topic. The doctor gave her some options that were not very good. She chose to not do surgery or medicine. We went to the great Physician and her medicine was one quart of carrot/kale juice each morning. On her last trip to the retina specialist, he told her "congratulations, you healed yourself!"  Well.....we all know who healed her eye. He used the agents in the kale and carrots to do so, it appears. She does not have her full vision back, but most of it. We are thankful to God for his answer to our prayers. Thank you for taking time to pray for my wife. It is much appreciated.

In the time of great trial that we are now in, many will find the need to pray as we have never prayed before. I am convicted that I need to spend more time in prayer. How about you? Do we watch and pray enough?  Or are we like Peter, James, and John who neglected, to their hurt, to watch and pray while Jesus was going through His great  agony alone? By not praying they lost a great deal and also added to the sufferings of Jesus. He would have been comforted to know they were praying for Him, but He found them asleep. Let us learn from their mistakes and spend more time on our knees. Prayer is our connection with Jesus who is our connection with heaven.

Again, thank you, heavenly Father for hearing our prayers and to my friends who have prayed for my wife. May we continue to press together as we near the end.

Multitudes of answered prayers, yet we forget to tell others of what great things He hath done for us!  It was time to upgrade our software here at TRO.  It is something that I try to put off as long as possible for two reasons. The first is that things do not always go as we wish.  It is not good to have to be down and even worse to not know how to fix the problem. The other reason is that an upgrade generally means change. Yes, it is often for the better, but it also requires some time to figure out how to work the system. :(

I cannot do a major upgrade during the day because that is when everyone is online. So, I waited until 10:30 our time and began with prayer, and I continued praying. Things did not go smoothly, so I prayed more. You all have had computer problems and you know that you may not fix them right away.  Well....that is fine if you don't have to have your computer right now. But, with an online site where you have visitors coming, it is not good to not be able to fix the problem in a timely manner. It is not just me, but others that are going to be affected. So, not knowing what is going to happen or when it will be fixed requires much faith and prayer. God knows it all. We can have peace in the middle of our perplexities IF we are walking in the grace that surrounds us.

At 11:56pm, it was not good. I was utterly dependent upon God. The work I had been doing all day long, did not appear to have been much help.  The upgrade had hungup and I did not know what to do. So, I prayed and began over. It hung up again. I prayed again and decided I could bypass a few operations, at least I hoped that I could, because I was going to. It worked, or at least I thought it did because it did not hangup.  But, then I skipped a few operations. :)  I still prayed.  When it finished its operations, I could not access the board. I sought help from God and another who had experience with such things. God gave him not only a willingness to help, but a prompt response, for which I was very grateful. There was a problem with the upgrade software and it was not functioning as it should.  It locked me out of  the system. My new friend told me the code I needed to change manually. I did that and got in. But, to  my utter shock, the board was a mess. It was in pieces!  :(  I prayed more.  I began reading of others who had gone through the same horror. I decided that it might be that some of the old software was conflicting with the new. My friend confirmed my thoughts and  I was able to pinpoint the problem and by 2:30am things were looking pretty good.  :)  I kept praying. By 3:30 I could go to bed. God kept answering my prayers. He did not take my trial away, but rather gave me strength, wisdom, and a friend to help. That is how God works. He wants us to look to Him more often and to appreciate what He does for us and most importantly, what He has done for us in the past when He allowed His only Son to come to this dark world where Satan claims dominion. He allowed Him to come a helpless baby subject to the weaknesses of humanity, to fight the battle of life as we must fight it at the risk of failure and eternal loss. Such love!! It makes my trials appear as nothing!  And that is what God wants from us today. He wants us to have peace that passes understanding in the middle of the storm. The storm is beginning to grow in intensity and strength. But, His grace is sufficient for all that He allows to come to us.

So, as you move through the board today, remember that God worked to help us have it. Share with us and all who come here to read, what God has done for you today.

Two weeks ago after leaving a home while out canvassing in the evening I hit a deer broadside. It totaled my 13 year old van with 227,000 miles. Since rust was clearly showing on one side it was not all bad that the vehicle has been retired. I had planned to drive the van for another 100,000 miles but that was out of the question now and I was a bit weary of trying to pull up to houses in a way to hide the rust spot. I spent 6 hours on the internet over a three day period viewing vehicles through "autotrader.com" and made perhaps 50 phone calls of inquiry. We went to view two vans about 30 miles away and both turned out to be big disappointments. We looked at one vehicle only a mile from home I was not much impressed with it at the time. It did not help that it was covered with a light layer of dust and after dark. The children and wife wanted it but I was reserved. While color is my least important criteria I had a hard time with that color of blue green. There was another minor feature that I was not impressed with. However, I could not help but wonder with my search withing a 230 mile radius from home if God might have reserved that vehicle for us. The next afternoon, the day before Thanksgiving, and after another disappointing viewing of two vehicles we decided to stop on the way home and look again at the ugly, dusty, green vehicle. It had 120,000 miles and was an 05 but this is about the mileage and year we were looking for. This time it was daylight and the van looked entirely different. It is amazing what a wash and some daylight will do to a dusty vehicle. It was not even blue green and a quite attractive shiny, charcoal blue. The condition of the van was very good and perhaps excellent for a vehicle of that year. After a little bargaining and $500 drop in price we purchased the vehicle. While doing the paper work the night I was asked by both the salesman and the another salesman who was temporarily filling in for the paperwork lady, gone for Thanksgiving, what I do for an occupation. This was my opportunity to give them some gifts which led to the question, "which church do you belong to" which led to " how is the SDA church different than the Reformed church?"   Which led to the answer " the SDA church believes in keeping ALL of the 10 commandments. I also shared the things we have in common and then gave the young lady working in another department near where we were sitting a DBD and a BS brochure. She has a one year old and her mother has the Bible Story set. If she reads the DBD it will be accompanied by a favorable preface due to her experience with having the books at home.

I believe God saved this vehicle for us, a mile from home, and as always presented an opportunity to witness and leave literature. The vehicle went through an entire transformation with a wash and some good  lighting and we are very happy with it.

Amen!  God is glorified when we tell of His love and power.  Thanks for sharing, Amy! We rejoice with you.

Stop and consider for a moment in the light of our Sabbath School lesson last week. We realize our dependency upon God for all that we have. He causes the heart to beat. Are you sick today? If not, we can thank God for keeping us healthy. That is something to praise God for. Is it not?

Sometimes receiving a blessing is better than giving one!  Jesus was sitting by a well with no way to get water.  A woman of Samaria approached, and seeming unconscious of His presence, filled her pitcher with water. As she turned to go away, Jesus asked her for a drink. Such a favor no Oriental would withhold. In the East, water was called "the gift of God." To offer a drink to the thirsty traveler was held to be a duty so sacred that the Arabs of the desert would go out of their way in order to perform it. The hatred between Jews and Samaritans prevented the woman from offering a kindness to Jesus; but the Saviour was seeking to find the key to this heart, and with the tact born of divine love, He asked, not offered, a favor. The offer of a kindness might have been rejected; but trust awakens trust. The King of heaven came to this outcast soul, asking a service at her hands. He who made the ocean, who controls the waters of the great deep, who opened the springs and channels of the earth, rested from His weariness at Jacob's well, and was dependent upon a stranger's kindness for even the gift of a drink of water. The woman saw that Jesus was a Jew. In her surprise she forgot to grant His request, but tried to learn the reason for it. "How is it," she said, "that Thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria?"  This softened the Samaritan's heart which allowed Jesus to reach her with the truth.

Dear brother, you have accepted a gift from one of another denomination.  It shows you are not prejudiced against the giver of the gift. The door is open to express your love for them even though they know how strongly you believe in your faith. Your aunt and uncle will be in our prayers along with yours.

Amen!   One day we will not be. This darkness that happened but for one day, is a foreshadowing of what is coming upon the world. It is all in God's hands.  Let us work while there is yet day.

Jesus said unto his followers: "Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you; for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. While ye have the light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light." These words apply to us as well as to them. There is great reluctance to discern and gratefully receive the light from heaven. Moral darkness covers the earth, and gross darkness the people. Satan has the heart service of the world; his hellish shadow pervades and overshadows all human society, and how positively essential that Christ's professed followers should be channels of light. Says Christ, "Ye are the light of the world;" then how important that we place ourselves directly under the bright beams of the Sun of Righteousness. Those who are sanctified through the truth will be bright and shining lights in the world.

The whole earth is to be lightened with the glory of God. But how difficult for some to see and acknowledge the light and be converted, that I, Christ says, should heal them. The atmosphere of selfishness, pride, formality, and self-righteousness surrounds their souls, and it is very difficult for them to discern light as light and appreciate it. Some walk away from the light into darkness, and how much greater is the darkness that enshrouds their souls because they have had the light. Refusing to walk in the light, they stumble at most precious things. Refusing to see the truth, they stumble and know not at what they stumble. The light that has been graciously given has not been appreciated and brought into the practical life, and many are not doers of the word. Every true believer should have a realization of his solemn responsibility before God, to be a missionary seeking to save those that are lost. We should see armies of consecrated workers seeking to do, not their own will or pleasure, but the will of God. They should be laborers together with God. They should work, pray, and continually look unto Jesus, who is the author and finisher of their faith. Those who surrender wholly to God will put thought and prayer and earnest, consecrated tact into their labors.

Young men and young women, if you are true disciples of Christ, you will consecrate every talent, and be able to reach out for the unconverted, by ways and methods that will be effective. You will be active, working agencies for Christ. In every church there should be devoted workers. All should realize that they are to seek counsel of God, that by well-directed personal efforts they may save souls for whom Christ died. No sinner should come within the sphere of a Christian's influence and feel that his interest has not been enlisted on the side of Jesus, the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world. Those who profess to believe the truth should walk in the light of the precious beams of the Sun of Righteousness.

The call for revival and reformation is sounding throughout the church. Many are in the valley of decision. Make that decision for Jesus.....today.

There are many answered prayers that often are not appreciated as they ought to be. And, many are forgotten.

I want to thank God for hearing our prayers. He has given to the  Roth family a beautiful healthy baby boy. We thank Jesus for this answer to our prayers.  As we near the end we see evil throughout the world and increasing daily. America, a land greatly blessed is now an exporter of immorality. She is no longer the Protestant nation she used to be. I live in California which has long been mocking God. San Francisco, Oakland, and Los Angeles are centers of immorality. Earthquakes, fires, and drought are plaguing the state. But, God  in His mercy sent rain (http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-rain-snow-southern-california-20150407-story.html) to us yesterday, and even snow to the mountains. Evidence that He stills loves and cares for the sinner. I am thankful that we have water still for our gardens.

Each day, we pray for help in our daily lives, but how often do we tell of His wonderful care for us? It seems I am continually thanking God for His help in the "little" things of life. After a month of fires burning close to our property, God has answered our prayers and protected us and many others from the wildfires burning in the Western U.S. I want to thank  God for hearing and answering the many prayers seeking His help. God is so very GOOD!

As we witness the endtime prophecies coming to pass, we know that soon we shall depart from this wicked world.  But, before we leave, we shall have lost all that we have. Are we ready to do this? Are putting our treasure in heaven?

I am thankful for the answered prayer for my grandson. He is doing well and ought to be home tomorrow. I am also thankful that God has kept my last computer running. I lost my internet connection and spent many hours in the last week attempting to troubleshoot the problem. The world is fast falling apart.

It has become painfully apparent manufacturing has been going downhill since much is now manufactured in China. Not long ago, I purchased a couple of adapters to connect a new kitchen faucet. Both were defective and it took some time to realize that was why they were not working. I have a contractor friend who told me it is not uncommon now to find defective parts.

When I lost my internet last Friday, I called my service provider and spend quite a bit of time with them trying to find the problem. They said it was the modem, so I purchased a new modem. Well...it did not work either, so they sent a tech out on the sun day. He spend much time and said he had not seen such a difficulty as he was facing. Finally, after we talked about two modems being bad, and one being brand new, he decided to try a third modem. It worked. Much time and money was wasted because the Netgear modem was defective right out of the box. Yes, it was made in China.

It is becoming hard to find things not made in China. It is one thing to get a defective modem, it is more serious when you get defective food grown in China. Read labels and you will find instead of "grown in USA", distributed by ....... in USA. Brand names now are purchasing food grown in China and not revealing it. Another sign the end is near. For this we are thankful!

God is busy answering prayer! This is one prayer for a school that was on the verge of being closed.

ANN/Maranatha Volunteers Staff

Not long ago, the Barros Blancos Seventh-day Adventist School, in Uruguay, was on the verge of closing its doors for good. Due to mounting financial challenges, the Adventist Church leadership felt that several schools needed to be closed, and Barros Blancos was on the list.

Elizabeth Urtazú, the principal of the school, was crushed.

“When we felt we were going to lose the school, we realized how much we loved this place. The teachers looked at their students and said, ‘What’s going to happen to the children?’ said Urtazú. “We’ve watched over this place. It has had so many challenges. How can we improve it? What is the future here?”

Turns out, the future was bright. On March 14, 2018, Urtazú, along with Maranatha and leaders from the Adventist Church in Uruguay, celebrated the opening of the new Barros Blancos campus. The new school, constructed by Maranatha, has eight classrooms, along with bathrooms and administrative offices, and a central auditorium that can be used as a gym and auditorium.

The new school is an answer to prayer. When Barros Blancos was under threat of being shut down, Urtazú and her staff begged for a chance to save the school. They quickly began recruiting for more students, cut a portion of their salaries, and prayed relentlessly. Their faith and hard work paid off as the enrollment climbed to 140 students. At the time, they were meeting at a local church, using Sabbath school classrooms and shipping containers for educational space. But even with 140 students, the maximum capacity for their facility, there were insufficient funds to operate the school.

In order to sustain and grow the program, Barros Blancos needed a new campus. The situation was dire—not only for the school but also for the Adventist Church. Uruguay is the most secularized nation in South America and the sixth least religious country in the world.

Uruguay is a tough place to grow the Gospel.

“Religion doesn’t factor into daily life,” says J. Carlos Sanchez Ruiz, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Uruguay. “This, of course, makes evangelism more difficult.”

The Adventist Church was established in Uruguay more than 100 years ago. But there are only about 9,000 members in the country—a relatively small number compared to membership in other South American countries.

The one effective approach to reaching people with the Gospel—a way around the culture of secularism—has been education. Adventist schools have been successful in attracting children from diverse backgrounds—most of whom are not part of the Adventist church. Their parents may not be Christian, but they are interested in providing their children with a values-based education, and families are finding it in Adventist schools.

Closing Barros Blancos would have greater consequences than losing an educational program. It would mean having one less center of Christian influence in the country.

So Urtazú and the Adventist leadership in Uruguay reached out to Maranatha Volunteers International, in hopes that Maranatha could provide assistance. After much discussion, in 2015, Maranatha committed to build an education and evangelism center in Barros Blancos.

“Dear brothers of Maranatha, you have become the greatest blessing that the church in Uruguay has received in recent years. We are deeply thankful to the Lord and to you for having decided to come and help us here in Uruguay,” said Sanchez.

During 2017 and the first part of 2018, Maranatha mobilized 150 volunteers to Uruguay to help local crews with the construction project. Six volunteer teams helped to build the Barros Blancos School, including a Maranatha-led team, a team from Brazil, the Fox Valley Adventist Church Team, Detroit Maranatha Team, Oklahoma Conference Team, and West Houston Adventist Church Team. The local Adventist leadership also had architects design a facade for the entrance to the building, giving the structure added visual interest and color.

At the dedication on Wednesday, hundreds attended the ceremony to watch the ribbon cutting and tour the new campus. As part of the dedication program, each student released a balloon into the sky, symbolizing how their dreams and goals can soar with education and God. Already, the kids have seen that with faith, anything is possible—even a new school.
