The Desire of Ages / Re: The Desire of Ages--46--He Was Transfigured

Moses upon the mount of transfiguration was a witness to Christ's victory over sin and death. He represented those who shall come forth from the grave at the resurrection of the just. Elijah, who had been translated to heaven without seeing death, represented those who will be living upon the earth at Christ's second coming, and who will be "changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump;" when "this mortal must put on immortality," and "this corruptible must put on incorruption." 1 Corinthians 15:51-53. Jesus was clothed with the light of heaven, as He will appear when He shall come "the second time without sin unto salvation." For He will come "in the glory of His Father with the holy angels." Hebrews 9:28; Mark 8:38. The Saviour's promise to the disciples was now fulfilled. Upon the mount the future kingdom of glory was represented in miniature,--Christ the King, Moses a representative of the risen saints, and Elijah of the translated ones.

Of all that could be said about todays reading I was impressed by the fact that no where does it say our characters will be changed in an instance. This stood out to me because it saddens me to hear so many say that very thing and they don't want to hear the truth. The bible is so clear on the things that are necessary for our salvation. Our daily walk with God through the guidance of the Holy Spirit in prayer, bible study and witnessing and a surrendered, open heart will transform us into His character moment by moment. We are so blessed to be part of God's family to share in not just the blessings but the trials, and sufferings that Jesus experienced which is necessary for a home in heaven and compassion for lost souls.

Amen, Brother Beacon!!!

Did Jesus ever feel lonely? Absolutely! So if you are feeling loneliness of spirit in a world of sin because your heart is truly converted, and you covet pain, toil and sacrifice for His dear sake, take heart! Jesus "gets you"--and so do those who have partaken of His character, counting it highest privilege to suffer for His dear sake in the saving of souls!

"But before the crown must come the cross. Not the inauguration of Christ as king, but the decease to be accomplished at Jerusalem, is the subject of their conference with Jesus. Bearing the weakness of humanity, and burdened with its sorrow and sin, Jesus walked alone in the midst of men. As the darkness of the coming trial pressed upon Him, He was in loneliness of spirit, in a world that knew Him not. Even His loved disciples, absorbed in their own doubt and sorrow and ambitious hopes, had not comprehended the mystery of His mission. He had dwelt amid the love and fellowship of heaven; but in the world that He had created, He was in solitude. Now heaven had sent its messengers to Jesus; not angels, but men who had endured suffering and sorrow, and who could sympathize with the Saviour in the trial of His earthly life. Moses and Elijah had been colaborers with Christ. They had shared His longing for the salvation of men. Moses had pleaded for Israel: 'Yet now, if Thou wilt forgive their sin—; and if not, blot me, I pray Thee, out of Thy book which Thou hast written.' Exodus 32:32. Elijah had known loneliness of spirit, as for three years and a half of famine he had borne the burden of the nation's hatred and its woe. Alone he had stood for God upon Mount Carmel. Alone he had fled to the desert in anguish and despair. These men, chosen above every angel around the throne, had come to commune with Jesus concerning the scenes of His suffering, and to comfort Him with the assurance of the sympathy of heaven. The hope of the world, the salvation of every human being, was the burden of their interview." {The Desire of Ages, page 422, paragraph 2}

To have all of the fruits of the Spirit in the life without one missing in genuine, thorough conversion is not a passive experience, for the love of Christ constrains us to go in the path He marked out by His selfless life of holiness, service and the crowning sacrifice He made at Calvary! We need to keep our focus centered on Him, so we will not be deceived by the deceitful lusts of sin that seek to deter us from the path God has appointed for us. To stay converted, we need to ever keep our eyes of faith on Jesus and let the Holy Spirit speak and minister through us whatever He has planned! Live today with the realization that you can encourage Jesus by partaking of His character and experience, and be thankful also that He can bring godly people in your life that share in the sympathy of heavenly influences, helping to encourage you and them in the upward path to heaven!

"WE" should find comfort and assurance knowing that God always has our back and "WILL" supply what is needed to bring "Us" through to Victory! Remember "Faith is the Victory that Overcomes the World.!!

======================
1
Encamped along the hills of light,
  Ye Christian soldiers rise,
And press the battle ere the night
  Shall veil the glowing skies;
Against the foe in vales below
  Let all our strength be hurled;
Faith is the victory, we know,
  That overcomes the world.
    Faith is the victory!
Faith is the victory!
O glorious victory,
  That overcomes the world.
2
His banner over us is love,
  Our sword the Word of God;
We tread the road the saints before
  With shouts of triumph trod.
By faith, they like a whirlwind’s breath,
  Swept on o’er every field;
The faith by which they conquered death
  Is still our shining shield.
3
On every hand the foe we find
  Drawn up in dread array;
Let tents of ease be left behind,
  And onward to the fray.
Salvation’s helmet on each head,
  With truth all girt about,
The earth shall tremble ’neath our tread,
  And echo with our shout.
4
To him that overcomes the foe,
  White raiment shall be giv’n;
Before the angels he shall know
  His name confessed in heav’n;
Then onward from the hills of light,
  Our hearts with love aflame,
We’ll vanquish all the hosts of night,
  In Jesus’ conqu’ring name.

Amen dear sister!  The chapter reveals that the disciples did not accept the truth that Christ must suffer and die. They did not want to give up their hope that He would sit upon an earthly throne. They did not want to follow in His path of suffering. As such, it was a mystery to them. Satan was blocking their understanding of what Christ had made plain.

     Beyond the poverty and humiliation of the present, He pointed the disciples to His coming in glory, not in the splendor of an earthly throne, but with the glory of God and the hosts of heaven. And then, He said, "He shall reward every man according to his works." Then for their encouragement He gave the promise, "Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in His kingdom." But the disciples did not comprehend His words. The glory seemed far away. Their eyes were fixed upon the nearer view, the earthly life of poverty, humiliation, and suffering. Must their glowing expectations of the Messiah's kingdom be relinquished? Were they not to see their Lord exalted to the throne of David? Could it be that Christ was to live a humble, homeless wanderer, to be despised, rejected, and put to death? Sadness oppressed their hearts, for they loved their Master. Doubt also harassed their minds, for it seemed incomprehensible that the Son of God should be subjected to such cruel humiliation. They questioned why He should voluntarily go to Jerusalem to meet the treatment which He had told them He was there to receive. How could He resign Himself to such a fate, and leave them in greater darkness than that in which they were groping before He revealed Himself to them?  {DA 417.3}
     In the region of Caesarea Philippi, Christ was out of the reach of Herod and Caiaphas, the disciples reasoned. He had nothing to fear from the hatred of the Jews or from the power of the Romans. Why not work there, at a distance from the Pharisees? Why need He give Himself up to death? If He was to die, how was it that His kingdom was to be established so firmly that the gates of hell should not prevail against it? To the disciples this was indeed a mystery.

Satan had succeeded with Israel in perverting the gospel which is the everlasting covenant made before the foundation of the world was laid. Even the Words of Jesus were rejected by His disciples because of the false teachings of the leaders in Israel. Instead of seeing the sacrificial offerings as pointing to the grace of God to save humanity, they thought it bought them eternal life. They considered it was their sacrifice, not the sacrifice of God. The warm blood of the Lamb was given to break the heart of the sinner as it ran over the fingers of the sinner. But, the hearts were not surrendered because they did not see it was the blood of the Son of God. Even John the Baptist did not understand the Lamb had to suffer and die in order for the sins of the world to be forgiven. Such a deception!

Today, how do the chosen ones of God to whom the Truth has been entrusted understand the gospel message? Do we understand that the sufferings of Jesus is an example for us to follow?

God never leads His children otherwise than they would choose to be led, if they could see the end from the beginning, and discern the glory  of the purpose which they are fulfilling as co-workers with Him. Not Enoch, who was translated to heaven, not Elijah, who ascended in a chariot of fire, was greater or more honored than John the Baptist, who perished alone in the dungeon. “Unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on Him, but also to suffer for His sake.” Philippians 1:29. And of all the gifts that Heaven can bestow upon men, fellowship with Christ in His sufferings is the most weighty trust and the highest honor. Desire of Ages 224.

The Desire of Ages / Re: The Desire of Ages--45--The Foreshadowing of the Cross

"Jesus now explained to His disciples that His own life of self-abnegation was an example of what theirs should be. Calling about Him, with the disciples, the people who had been lingering near, He said, "If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me." The cross was associated with the power of Rome. It was the instrument of the most cruel and humiliating form of death. The lowest criminals were required to bear the cross to the place of execution; and often as it was about to be laid upon their shoulders, they resisted with desperate violence, until they were overpowered, and the instrument of torture was bound upon them. But Jesus bade His followers take up the cross and bear it after Him. To the disciples His words, though dimly comprehended, pointed to their submission to the most bitter humiliation,--submission even unto death for the sake of Christ. No more complete self-surrender could the Saviour's words have pictured. But all this He had accepted for them. Jesus did not count heaven a place to be desired while we were lost. He left the heavenly courts for a life of reproach and insult, and a death of shame. He who was rich in heaven's priceless treasure, became poor, that through His poverty we might be rich. We are to follow in the path He trod."  {DA 416.3}

If Jesus willingly went through all He did that we might have eternal life can we not endure the trials of this life for a short while? He had to endure it alone but we have all of heaven, if necessary, ready to come to our aid. We are never alone.

Praise the Lord, Brother Beacon!

How did Jesus go through the trial of the cross? We read these words of inspiration: "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God" (Hebrews 12:2). Jesus could go through the cross--all its agony and suffering--because of the joy of seeing souls redeemed! He was fulfilling His great mission! As we respond to the infinite love of God and go forth to seek and save souls by pointing them to Jesus, sharing God's inspired word, we will count it all joy to face whatever trials befall us in the path of service, for we keep our eyes of faith steadfastly fixed on Christ, realizing the infinite love of God in Christ constrains us forward through the baptism of the Holy Spirit!

"Love for souls for whom Christ died means crucifixion of self. He who is a child of God should henceforth look upon himself as a link in the chain let down to save the world, one with Christ in His plan of mercy, going forth with Him to seek and save the lost. The Christian is ever to realize that he has consecrated himself to God, and that in character he is to reveal Christ to the world. The self-sacrifice, the sympathy, the love, manifested in the life of Christ are to reappear in the life of the worker for God." {The Desire of Ages, page 417, paragraph 1}

As long as we are vitally connected to Christ by a living union and communion of our souls with Him in complete surrender of the whole heart in willing obedience to all of His commandments, all of the fruits of the Spirit without one missing will flow forth from our lives, and we will rejoice to follow where He leads the way! Nothing of the world can make us sad when Jesus makes us glad by His presence! "The joy of the Lord is your strength" (Nehemiah 8:10)! Are you happy in Jesus? Then go find others to share the joy that animates and blesses your soul with the life-giving power of eternal life!!

"The church is built upon Christ as its foundation; it is to obey Christ as its head."

"It is not to depend upon man, or be controlled by man."

"Many claim that a position of trust in the church gives them authority to dictate what other men shall believe and what they shall do."

"This claim God does not sanction."

"The Saviour declares, 'All ye are brethren.'

"All are exposed to temptation, and are liable to error." "

Upon no finite being can we depend for guidance."

"The Rock of faith is the living presence of Christ in the church."

"Upon this the weakest may depend, and those who think themselves the strongest will prove to be the weakest, unless they make Christ their efficiency."

"Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm.' The Lord 'is the Rock, His work is perfect."

"Blessed are all they that put their trust in Him."  Jeremiah 17:5; Deuteronomy 32:4; Psalm 2:12.

Are "WE" willing to Trust & Obey??

=================================

1
Jesus, I will trust Thee,
  Trust Thee with my soul,
Guilty, lost and helpless,
  Thou canst make me whole:
There is none in heaven
  Or on earth like Thee:
Thou hast died for sinners,
  Therefore, Lord, for me.
    Jesus, I will trust Thee,
  Trust Thee with my soul
Guilty, lost and helpless,
    Thou canst make me whole.
2
Jesus, I must trust Thee,
  Pondering Thy ways;
Full of love and mercy
  All Thine earthly days:
Sinners gathered round Thee,
  Lepers sought Thy face:
None too vile or loathsome
  For a Savior’s grace.
3
Jesus, I can trust Thee,
  Trust Thy written Word,
Though Thy voice of pity
  I have never heard:
When Thy Spirit teacheth,
  To my taste how sweet!
Only may I hearken,
  Sitting at Thy feet.
4
Jesus, I do trust Thee,
  Trust without a doubt;
Whosoever cometh
  Thou wilt not cast out:
Faithful is Thy promise,
  Precious is Thy blood:
These my soul’s salvation
  Thou my Savior God!
