Title: A New Danger
Post by: Richard Myers on October 26, 2010, 09:01:29 AM
As always, do not open attachments in your email if you do not know they are safe.

A new threat commonly referred to as the “Here you have” virus due to the email subject line the worm uses during propagation.  It looks like multiple variants may be spreading and may take some time to work through them all to paint a clearer picture.  Here’s what we know thus far.

Infectious email messages may have the following properties:

Subject: Here you have or Just For you
Body:

Hello:

This is The Document I told you about, you can find it Here.

Please check it and reply as soon as possible.

Cheers,

Don't click on the link. It is hard to resist at times to not go to a link, but do not go to links that you do not know are safe.   There can be many dangers awaiting the unsuspecting.

:)  You don't suppose someone will "click" ?     :)  I wonder where it will take them?  Curiosity!  :(

Tell me, tell me...  ;D Actually, I'm not much of a curious one. Looking out for my brethren.  :)

Knowing the forum, you probably have the link going to an admonition for obedience or some such principle.  ;) But I'm not testing it!

This reminds me of an experiment that someone did when I was in highschool. Someone put up a sign that said.... "don't look behind this sign" and then hid a video camera.  I'm sure everyone can guess at the results.

Is Brother Richard playing "obedience games" with us? I have to admit, I wondered where it would take me if I clicked on it, but did not think it would be to something bad, because he is too smart to put something on here to hurt us unknowingly, and certainly too kind to hurt us..but, I think it is as you said, JimB, like the video camera. But, I just kept on scrolling!!

What about it, Sybil? Has he told you? As you know, I have a terrible curiosity!

What, dear sister? What are you talking about?

Oh ..... that!  ;)

I know him toooooooooooooo well to click on that link. Do not fall for it. It is a snare. Do not let him draw you into that web! As for me ... it is not even a temptation, my sister. Nothing about it even begins to ring a resounding inquisitive cord within my soul. There is nothing anyone can do nor say to make me click on that link.

I will not click on that link.
I will not click on that link.
I won't, I won't.

Lord, this is a small thing, but I/we need Your help. Please help us not to click on that link! Dear Father, help our elder brother, Richard Myers, You know him by name, the very administrator of this forum who knows better than to lead another into temptation and not dangle such carrots before our weak and wearied faces. Yes, he may know some of our weaknesses, but Lord, why would Your servant do this? Please help him correct this and cause him to remove it! Use any means possible to bring about a good end so that none are led into mischief. It is enough that we have earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, tsunamis and hurricanes; diseases, affliction, droughts and famines. That Your servant would add to our troubles with this strong temptation is simply ... baffling. Father, You can fix this and we trust through some measure of soft-handed condemnation, You will accomplish it only as You can. We take our rest now, knowing this will be removed from us and we thank You in advance. In the name of Your dear Son we ask this. Amen.

I don't know ... it's been 9 minutes and I am getting weak.

Sybil. You prayed about the temptation. God is there to strengthen your resolve to remain away. Trust in Him dear one. You can overcome this!

... at the moment, I am wrestling. Thank you for the encouragement, dear sister. We all need it! Yet, there is something about that name.  ???

Perhaps a link to a health website I've heard a little about. He is watching at the other end to see who is coming for a visit. I need an appropriate personal invitation. Not a temptation. Shameful.  ;)

You have been warned.  ;)

Sybil, if the prayer you prayed did not reach his conscience, I do not understand... ???  As to "Something Better," it is the name of the cookbook which was used in the cooking class that influenced me to go vegan. It is written by Evelyn Earl and Neva Brackett.

BTW, do you think Brother Richard is laughing at us now? Seems a bit out of character for what I know...perhaps I am seeing another side...but...I am expecting something really inspirational to come out of this. (No, I have not peeked.)

If you go to the McAfee (antivirus) blog you will find the information in the first post.  It is a genuine virus so I would not click on the link. It should have been disabled IMHO.

I have not been following the discussion. I just read through it. Sorry to tempt anyone. All I did was copy the information KNOWING that there would not be any danger from the link. I never was tempted to try it. Then Sister Vicki said I ought to disable it. Then I clicked on it thinking it would lead to more information on the virus. It did not. So, I took that as an opportunity to express the danger for those who might click on an unknown link. :)  But, everyone knew that it was not going to getcha!  But, the point is well made that even when a friend sends a link that comes though another party, there needs to be care taken. Ie.  those nice cards that come. I don't usually go to websites or open attachments unless I am confident that they are ok.   If there is a question, email the sender and ask. That does not completely make it safe, but then there is only one safe place to be, in Christ. Ten thousand shall fall at our side.

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.   A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.  Psalm 91:5-7

I have had to heavily edit this topic because a cat got out of the bag too soon "upon second thought." Yes, Richard was having fun with us and I surely bought it. So, Dora, Vicki & LindaRS, this was a little respite of playfulness and Richard did not intend to lead us into temptation nor cause us to get a virus as he said.

We will get back into this subject soon and until then, thank you for your understanding and the little oasis of laughter it caused me last evening upon discovering Richard's playfulness and what he was really up to.

OK. There is a real virus threat though, as you can see at the McAfee sight. But this one wasn't it. Did anybody see any lead balloons around here?   :D;D

I'm glad to hear that you received some enjoyment out of this!   :D  A good laugh can be wonderful medicine!

As for me, I've been trying to follow this and am not exactly sure what it was all about.  ???  But, I can honestly say I wasn't tempted to click on the link.  Just a bit curious, and amused to find Brother Richard's intentions the object of much speculation!   ;)

Speaking of dangers, has anyone heard of people's Yahoo accounts sending out spam to folks on their contact lists?  Soon after my son switched over to gmail, I started receiving "messages" from his old Yahoo address, which I knew probably wasn't from him and did not open.

Well, Sr. Dee, I can honestly say, I was tempted to click on the link! I have a curiosity that can get me in trouble. I did not click on it, not from fear of what might happen, (knew Bro. Richard a bit better than that! ) But, I did not click on it "out of principle." And, yes, I thought of how if this little link could be any way tempting, what would something like maybe "Pandora's Box" be like..(whatever my Pandora's Box might be.) Only through Jesus will we be safe during the terrible deceptions now and ahead of us.

So, Brother Richard, I think your little joke served a purpose, to cause some of us to "examine ourselves" more.

Yes, Sister Dora, we all have our temptations.  It is good when we can come face to face with them and resist with our Lord's help.   :)

Only through Jesus will we be safe during the terrible deceptions now and ahead of us.

Amen!

It really is too late. A virus can spread from close contact, by hand, by coughing, etc.

I am going to begin a topic in response to Dora's comment about gmail and Yahoo.  There is danger lurking at Google.
