Can "we" Hasten or Delay Christ's Second Coming?
« on: May 13, 2005, 07:09:00 AM »
2Pe 3:11-12  Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

Romans 9:28 For He will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.
AND Mat 24:22  And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

  How do YOU read IF "we" can speed up Jesus 2nd Coming?

""When the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come." Christ is waiting with longing desire for the manifestation of Himself in His church. When the character of Christ shall be perfectly reproduced in His people, then He will come to claim them as His own.

It is the privilege of every Christian not only to look for but to hasten the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, (2 Peter 3:12, margin). Were all who profess His name bearing fruit to His glory, how quickly the whole world would be sown with the seed of the gospel. Quickly the last great harvest would be ripened, and Christ would come to gather the precious grain." {COL 69}

We May Hasten the Day.--"By giving the gospel to the world it is in our power to hasten our Lord's return."--The Desire of Ages, p. 633. (1898) {Ev 696.4}

"It is the privilege of every Christian, not only to look for, but to hasten the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Were all who profess His name bearing fruit to His glory, how quickly the whole world would be sown with the seed of the gospel. Quickly the last harvest would be ripened, and Christ would come to gather the precious grain."--Testimonies, vol. 8, pp. 22, 23. (1904) {Ev 696.5}

"When the Message Is Finished.--It [the coming of the Lord] will not tarry past the time that the message is borne to all nations, tongues, and peoples. Shall we who claim to be students of prophecy forget that God's forbearance to the wicked is a part of the vast and merciful plan by which He is seeking to compass the salvation of souls?"--Review and Herald, June 18, 1901. {Ev 697.1}

Great question, Brother Laurie!

I have one also. Why has Jesus not come?

Jesus receives His reward when we reflect His character, the fruits of the Spirit......We deny Jesus His reward when we do not.

Could it be Brother Richard, because the character of God has not been perfectly reproduced in His people?

WHICH 'begs the question", WHY?

I think that is ALL He is waiting for!  Things in the world don't need to get any worse...but we need to become more like Jesus in character before He can come back.  It is within our power to hasten the return.  May God help us!  Tammy
