"EGW claimed to do the work of a prophet and much more.
"'My commission embraces the work of a prophet, but it does not end there.' (Selected Messages, Vol. 1, p. 36, 1906).
"That is why many SDAs promote her as a prophet and in practice consider her works infallible."
I do not wish to keep sounding repetitious, but again I say Mrs. White never claimed she was a prophet. While you were quoting what she said in Selected Messages, Book 1, on page 36, you should have mentioned what she said beginning at the bottom of page 35 which reads:
"During the discourse [at Battle Creek, October 2, 1904], I said that I DID NOT CLAIM TO BE A PROPHETESS (Emphasis mine throughout). Some were suprised at this statement, and as much is being said about it, I will make an explanation. Others have called me a prophetess, BUT I HAVE NEVER ASSUMED THE TITLE. I have not felt that it was my duty thus to designate myself. Those who boldly assume that they are prophets in this our day are often a reproach to the cause of Christ.
"My work includes much more than this name signifies. I REGARD MYSELF AS A MESSENGER, entrusted by the Lord with messages for His people.--Letter 55, 1905" (Selected Messages, Book 1, pp. 35-6).
Concerning the infallibility of her writings, Mrs. White states:
"In regard to infallibility, I NEVER CLAIMED IT; God alone is infallible. His word is true, and in Him is no variableness, or shadow of turning.--Letter 10, 1895" (Selected Messages, Book 1, p. 37).
This is the reason why--where one's salvation is concerned--one needs to be VERY, VERY CAREFUL and search the record for oneself before a person believes what someone else serves up as "facts." The devil is very gifted at providing half-truths or distortions of the facts that have caused many to leave this church because they did not BOTHER TO CHECK what someone said before they accepted it.
