I do not know that weather patterns for that part of the country but I'm wondering if there is a danger of mudslides now that fires have exposed the earth.

When we have had fires here in the mountians where I live, they have had serious mud slides. Even a year or two later there can be problems.

Not much chance for awhile.  We don't usually get much rain in California in the summer. But, it is interesting you bring the subject up.  A storm did pass through the very eastern part of California and it created a mudslide where a fire had been last year. So, when winter comes, we can expect difficulties.

Mudslides on fire-scarred land in the eastern Sierra Nevada forced people from their homes while milder weather in Northern California helped firefighters get a leg up on blazes throughout the state, and allowed evacuated Butte County residents to return home.  A huge mudslide in an area that was devastated by wildfires last year damaged about 50 homes and caused the temporary closure of a main road in the California town of Independence on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada.

How are the fires and the smoke in CA today? Continued improvement? We pray so!

The fires are slowly getting contained.  Just saw that there is lighting and some rain in Siskiyou County, California.  The map showed it around Somes Bar.  God hears our prayers and even though California is suffering on account of its rejection of God and His government, He provides for His children. We continue to pray for His protection and His Spirit to work with sinners as  well as the saints.

The situation continues to improve day by day.

News on the lightning-sparked fires just keeps getting better and better. The fires first started on June 21st. At the peak of this fire incident, firefighters were battling over 2,010. This Tuesday there are only 33 active fires left.

Precisely!  God is using this situation to speak to some who would not otherwise listen. Our prayers will enable Him to do more for them than if we had not prayed.  And, the firefighters who put themselves in danger need our prayers also.

God still mingles mercy with judgment, but soon it shall not be.

California has not seen the end of the current spate of fires. Beautiful Yosemite Park is in danger now.

A wildfire burning almost completely out of control Monday outside the famed park has charred more than 42 square miles, destroyed 12 homes and shrouded many an iconic vista with smoky haze. Some visitors toughed it out, while others packed their bags. source

I've seen the news clips regarding the Yosemite fire. Reports say it is only 10% contained. Does anyone here live close to Yosemite?

Here is a sample of the status in Nor Calif.

In the Far North (Siskiyou)
Ukonom Complex

36,148acres    30% Cont.
Expected  Containment   9/15/08

Engines                 19
Hel. T-1                  2
Hel. T-2                  2
Hel. T-3                  2
Total  Personnel            463

Major problems include inaccessible, steep terrain, and structures located west and east of the fire. Crews will be burning off from established roads, dozer lines and hand lines to strengthen control lines. Rollout along the Salmon River Road and North Fork Salmon Rd. has the potential to threaten residences and structures.

Siskiyou   Complex

55,729 acres
46% Contained     Expected Containment   8/30/08

Crews T-1               9
Crews T-2             25

Engines                60
Hel. T-1                 6
Hel. T-2                 3
Hel. T-3                 5
Total Personnel          1,336

Steep, inaccessible terrain and rolling material continues to hamper containment efforts. Smoke trapped by inversions has hampered air operations.

In the Central West of Nor Cal:
Yolla Bolly Complex   this is the Yolla Bolly Wilderness area.

70,635 acres    25% Cont.

Expected Containment: 8/15/2008
Engines                 26
Hel. T-1                  1
Hel. T-2                 3
Hel. T-3                  2

Total   Personnel            490

Seasonal curing of the vegetation may increase fire behavior, and areas that have servd as a barrier may begin to carry fire. Vegetation curing combined with the mosaic nature of the burn, and the potential for internal burning and re-burning, contribute the potential for large fire growth. Heavy smoke continues to impact local and regional communities, and can restrict the use of aviation resources for fire suppression and support. Terrain is steep and inaccessible, and safety zones are limited. Due to inaccessibility and long travel times, most operational resources are in remote spike camps and information and communications with ICP are a challenge.

42258 ACRES on Mendocino NF
28377 ACRES on Shasta-Trinity NF

In Central East Nor Cal

Butte Complex

59,440 acres
95% Cont.
Expected Containment  7/29/08

Crews T-1             18
Crews T-2             11
Engines                 71
Hel. T-1                  5
Hel. T-2                  0
Hel. T-3                  1

Total   Personnel        1,261

Mop up and patrol continues on the Camp fire. Resources continue to concentrate on the north side of the Complex. Increased winds are causing an number of hot spots to surface.

Some of the California fires that began when fire fell from the sky are still burning. Some are fully contained and are almost out. Here is a listing of their status and a few new fires that are burning in California.

While the 1700 fires caused by the fire that fell out of the sky are out, new fires have hit California. The Santa Anna Winds have created an inferno in S. Cal.

Fire menaces Los Angeles suburbs

A wildfire whipped up by near-hurricane force winds has forced thousands to flee their homes in the northern foothill suburbs of Los Angeles.

The fire near the community of Sylmar has burnt through 6,500 acres (2,600 hectares) and destroyed hundreds of homes, officials said.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa warned that the city's power supply was threatened by the fire.

Further west, another fire continues to burn in the wealthy town of Montecito.

The Sylmar fire broke out late on Friday and spread rapidly, whipped up by hot winds of up to 76mph (122 km/h). Source

ARE MEXICAN DRUG CARTELS SETTING CALIFORNIA FIRES?

By Michael Cutler
August 18, 2009
NewsWithViews.com

An article that appears on the CNN website that includes a link to a broadcast version of the news report concerning the fires that are plaguing California, threatening massive destruction of property and endangering lives.

Succinctly stated, some of these dangerous fires are apparently being traced to the cultivation of large numbers of marijuana plants by members of the Mexican drug cartels operating inside our country. The news report I watched on CNN today also noted that often these cartel members are known to be heavily armed. The news report went on to talk about how these individuals use propane tanks to cook their food because they fear that a traditional campfire would generate smoke that would be easy for law enforcement to spot. It is theorized that one of these fires got out of control resulting in at least one of the major fires that fire fighters are battling.

There are 12 fires burning in the hills surrounding my home. We have the fires on all sides, should they approach our town, and the water on the other. If things changed rapidly, we would be in dire straits indeed.

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE, Calif., Aug 30 (Reuters) - A wildfire in the heavily populated Los Angeles foothills threatened 10,000 homes on Sunday, and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger warned residents to heed evacuation orders for the "out of control" and "very dangerous" blaze.

The heat-driven fire nearly doubled in size overnight and has now burned 35,000 acres (14,000 hectares) of thick, bone-dry brush in the mountains above five towns, a 12-mile (19 km) stretch from La Crescenta to La Canada Flintridge, the California Fire Department said. Source also another Source.

Yes, the fires are back in California. Not like last year though.  Two firefighters were killed in the S. Cal fire. Yesterday, a fire broke out in the Auburn area and 40 or 50 homes were destroyed. The fire is still burning today.
