The Remnant Online Statement Regarding the Dreams of Ernie Knoll

On November 5, 2007, a number of interested persons on The Remnant Online Forum formed a special study group to examine the dreams of Ernie Knoll. Each dream was examined and compared to the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy, for we have been told "Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety" (Proverbs 11:14). "Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counselors they are established" (Proverbs 15:22). And finally, "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them" (Isaiah 8:20).

For the next several months each of Mr. Knoll's dreams were examined and discussed by the group in the special forum opened for that purpose. By May of 2008 a decision was reached concerning the source of Ernie Knoll's dreams and the conclusions are given in this statement. Though a number of discrepancies were noted throughout the dreams, it was not felt that these alone were enough to make a definitive decision regarding the source of the dreams. It was the examination of the "Stand Fast" dream of  February 5, 2008, that solidified the decision of the majority of the study group. In this dream, Ernie was told by the angel:

"It is important that His people understand while it is important that we are to return a tithe to God's storehouse, it is equally important that they understand what the funds are being used for. If an individual is providing funds and they understand that the funds are not being used according to His will, that person will be held accountable."

When compared to the inspired counsel of both the Word of Scripture and Ellen G. White, no where can such a statement be found that the tithe payer is guilty if tithe funds are misused. In direct opposition to the "herald's" statement is this statement from Testimonies, Vol. nine:

"Some have been dissatisfied and have said: 'I will not longer pay my tithe; for I have no confidence in the way things are managed at the heart of the work.' But will you rob God because you think the management of the work is not right? Make your complaint, plainly and openly, in the right spirit, to the proper ones. Send in your petitions for things to be adjusted and set in order; but do not withdraw from the work of God, and prove unfaithful, because others are not doing right."  9T 249.

"I pay my tithe gladly and freely, saying, as did David, 'Of Thine own have we given Thee.' A selfish withholding from God will tend to poverty in our own souls. Act your part, my brethren and sisters. God loves you, and He stands at the helm. If the conference business is not managed according to the order of the Lord, that is the sin of the erring one. The Lord will not hold you responsible for it if you do what you can to correct the evil. But do not commit sin yourselves by withholding from the Lord His own property. 'Cursed be he that doeth the work of the Lord deceitfully' or negligently." 2SAT 74.

Jesus told us that not one jot or one tittle shall pass away from the law until heaven and earth pass away. Jesus did not scold the poor widow who placed her two mites into the offering in the temple, though apostasy was widespread among the Jewish leaders. The conclusion arrived at by the study group is that these dreams are not from God, that Ernie is deceived and is holding communion with a demon. Our prayers are that his eyes will be opened and he will see the deception that he is under. We have prepared this statement as a warning to others to beware of this deception.

Some may question why this statement is made public. It is because the dreams are broadcast around the world.  Some may also question why the connection was made with Satan. Because we believe Ernie to be receiving dreams. We do not believe he makes them up. He also was supernaturally healed.  In other words, some may say he made these things up, but we do not question his sincerity regarding the dreams, nor his wife's sincerity.

The 4 His People Ministry Board learned of some very disturbing information the week of July 15. This information has led us to believe that though the dreams appear to be of a supernatural source, we now believe that this source was of Satan.

Along with the meetings being cancelled and no future meetings authorized by the board, please know that Ernie and Becky Knoll are suspended from any activity related to the 4 His People Ministry.

Please cease contributing funds to this ministry.

For those of you who read the testimony and/or received emails from someone going by the name of “Candace”, we were able to determine through tracking email IP information, that Ernie Knoll is “Candace”. When pressed, he admitted to this on July 21 at 2:43pm in a phone call to two ministry board members. We have also determined that the “Great Commission Counsel” is also Ernie Knoll.

We urge everyone who has a “dream book” to throw it away, as we now understand that there are mind control elements in it.

We sincerely apologize to all who have read and believed these messages. We pray that those whose lives have been affected, including those of us on this ministry team and our families, will find closure. Thankfully, we have a loving Savior in Jesus Christ who is willing to forgive all who come to Him with sincere repentance.

While we have concerns about some of the arguments and statements made by those who openly opposed the dreams, we apologize to you specifically. We may at some time in the future ask that you consider the unscriptural positions taken, but it is clearly not appropriate at this time.

Please know that all of us involved in this ministry, only ever wanted to serve in the cause of Christ, to win souls for the kingdom. It is our prayer that those who have returned to Jesus, as a result of these messages, will not cast Him aside. While we cannot trust in man’s opinions, we can trust Jesus. Always look to Jesus for light and strength. May He find us ready, when He returns.

It is good that Ernie's own supporters, those who rejected inspiration, have discovered the truth. If they had discernment, they would have been spared the humiliation and many others would not be suffering. Yet, God will accept repentance and will forgive all who truly are sorry for what they have done to Christ and His message.

From their statement "While we have concerns about some of the arguments and statements made by those who openly opposed the dreams, we apologize to you specifically. We may at some time in the future ask that you consider the unscriptural positions taken, but it is clearly not appropriate at this time."

It is an appropriate time for all who believed Ernie to be a prophet to consider their "unScriptural" position. They had opportunity to know he was a false prophet over a year ago, but failed to see that Ernie's dreams were not consistent with Biblical principle. Why do we make this point today? Because by their lack of discernment and their effort to give great influence to his dreams they have led many astray. Some may lose their salvation when they find out they were deceived. We do not bring this up to further humiliate those involved, but to reveal what has happened and how it can be avoided  in the future.

Sadly, many more will come claiming to be prophets. How can we know the true from the false?  "And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?  To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them."  Issiah 8:19,20.

This morning I received a message from Ernie. In the message was included these statements:

".....Candace was a hoax. I created 'her' to try to deter some of the negative things that people were saying about the ministry and it went downhill from there. (Becky did not learn about it until a couple days ago.) The dreams were also not from God."

At least one other that I know of has also received this same message from Ernie.

It is with much sorrow that we have to report Ernie and Becky Knoll have recanted their repentance. It was a repentance that needs to be repented of. They said they were sorry for having deceived God's children about the dreams. As reported above, Ernie said the dreams were not from God. Yesterday we received notice that Ernie has reinstated himself as the prophet of God. From an e-mail we received from Ernie and Becky:

We understand now that God is sending the dreams, because we all so desperately need encouragement, instruction, rebuke, and love. Please know that the dreams and the ministry are answers to many of our prayers, even from years ago.

Along with others, we had been praying that if these dreams are not from God that He would stop them and He has not stopped them......

We are recommitting ourselves to these dreams, trusting that they are from Him.

Please tell as many as possible about this false prophet and his wife. There is enough evidence to reveal that they are under a great deception. That a prophet of God would lie and deceive is not going to be accepted by most in the church and even by many in the world. The information in this topic is enough that most will cease to entertain the possibility that Ernie Knoll is a prophet of God.

There are actions underway in the Northern California Conference and the Brownsville Seventh-day Adventist Church that will reveal the church's response to the claims of Ernie and Becky Knoll. We will present that information when it becomes available.

The following is a statement from the North American Division regarding the dreams of Ennie Knoll. I have bolded the important statement for quick access.

False Prophet of Tithing
By G Edward Reid

I have a keen personal interest regarding prophecy and thank God that He has chosen to use that method of communication with mankind.  We know that there will be false prophets near the end.  Four times in Matthew 24 alone, Jesus counsels us to beware of false prophets.  But we can’t just dismiss everyone who claims to be led of God.  Paul counseled “Do not despise prophecies.  Test all things; hold fast what is good” (1 Thes. 5:20,21).  Accordingly, when a person claims to be speaking for God, we must test his/her counsel according to the Word of God to determine the veracity of the counsel.

Recently several people have brought to my attention the “dreams” of one, Ernie Knoll.  He claims to be a Seventh-day Adventist who is being given dreams from God about the condition of the church and what is coming on the earth.  It is interesting that in his February 5, 2008 “dream” he gives a series of footnotes from the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy.  I had never seen footnoted dreams before but in evaluating this one I note that he gives “tithe counsel” directly contrary to what I already know to be true.

The “false counsel” is: "It is important that His people understand while it is important that we are to return a tithe to God’s storehouse, it is equally important that they understand what the funds are being used for. If an individual is providing funds and they understand that the funds are not being used according to His will, that person will be held accountable.”  To say that the individual donor of tithe and offerings is responsible for any mismanagement on the part of church leaders is totally false.  There is no place in the Bible – Old or New Testament – where God has told His followers to withhold or redirect their tithes when they feel that they are being misused by the church leaders.  In fact, the only offering that Jesus ever commended was when a poor widow gave two mites (apparently all she had) to a church that was just about to crucify Him! (See Mark 12:41-44).

We have two very relevant documents on our NAD website that address this very issue.  They are “Timely Counsels” and “The Work in Michigan” under the Tithe tab.  Here are some representative statements:

“Some have been dissatisfied and have said: ‘I will not longer pay my tithe; for I have no confidence in the way things are managed at the heart of the work."’ But will you rob God because you think the management of the work is not right? Make your complaint, plainly and openly, in the right spirit, to the proper ones. Send in your petitions for things to be adjusted and set in order; but do not withdraw from the work of God, and prove unfaithful, because others are not doing right” (9T 249).

The other article notes: “Cannot you see that it is not best under any circumstances to withhold your tithes and offerings because you are not in harmony with everything that your brethren do? The tithes and offerings are not the property of any man, but are to be used in doing a certain work for God. Unworthy ministers may receive some of the means thus raised, but dare anyone, because of this, withhold from the treasury and brave the curse of God? I dare not” (2 Sermons and Talks, 74).

There are several statements in the writings of Ellen White where she notes that those who are faithful in returning to God that which is His “will not lose their reward” but those who (among church leaders) make a wrong use of the funds will be required to give an account of their stewardship. (See 2T 518,519).

The bottom line here is that, when we play the role of donors we must be faithful in returning to God through His church storehouse what he requires.  Once the money gets there, those in charge have the responsibility of using it in harmony with God’s plan.

A caution: There are many things in the dreams that are questionable, but we advise that you not complicate this matter. The basis on which our group discerned Ernie to be a false prophet is the issue of guilt of the one paying tithe into the church when it is misused. This is precisely what the NAD said in the above statement. There is no guilt chargeable to the tithe payer if the church misuses the tithe.

If you will use this as the Scriptural basis for refuting Ernie's claims it will keep the matter much simpler for others to study. And, now you may also present the fact that Ernie lied about Candace and lied about the GC (see above email to me from Ernie with his admission) and his statement that the dreams are not from God.

With this information, you are well prepared to help others not be deceived. The purpose of our public statements is to provide you with this information and  to reveal to the church and the world that the Seventh-day Adventist Church is not participating in this deception. We understand that God does indeed speak through individuals with the gift of the Spirit of Prophecy. But, this is not the Spirit of God speaking through Ernie Knoll.

The Northern California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists  has placed this statement on their website: http://ncc.adventist.org/article.php?id=784

New - NCC Statement Regarding Ernie Knoll
.
There has been ongoing concern by the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the Northern California Conference over the teachings of Ernie Knoll. In mid-July, 2009, the board of his ministry disavowed his teachings and dreams.

The Northern California Conference does not endorse or accept the teachings of Mr. Knoll nor his claims of prophetic dreams. We continue to urge our churches and members, as we have in the past, to exercise caution when dealing with him. Background information referencing some of the questions raised by Mr. Knoll can be found in the March 2008 Pastor's Stewardship Newsletter written by Edward Reid, stewardship director of the North American Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. This can be found on the Internet at http://www.adventiststewardship.org/8C403D0A-4BE5-49C6-BACF43B43942D204.html. Other official church responses are also available, including from the Biblical Research Institute.

This situation will be closely monitored because the administration of the Northern California Conference takes its leadership responsibility very seriously and urges our membership to join together in a strong call for unity in Jesus Christ.

Ernie Knoll is having dreams again.  He won't go away.  He has now translated his dreams into many languages.  He brings reproach upon God and His church.  Let us pray that this will come to an end.

"And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many." Matthew 24:11. Contemplating these Words of Jesus regarding our day, I thought of another false prophet which appeared in God's church almost 30 years ago.  There were cassette tapes circulating in the church. It was a french woman who shared much of what was in the Spirit of Prophecy. I had refused to listen to "prophet". But, was wrong. Will God speak through humanity in the last days? We know He will.

It is God's will for us to know both the truth and the error when it comes into His church. I prayed that God would reveal the truth and the error if there be any. After about ten minutes of listening to the tape, which included much truth, she contradicted the light given through another prophet, a prophet of God. The tape went into the garbage. God will not allow His church to be deceived even though He allows heresies to come into the church. His Spirit will lead us into all truth, and will reveal the heresies to all who want to the know the truth that they may follow it.

We can expect more false prophets as Satan attempts to lead many away from the truth.
