Expatriate Adventist Employees Removed From Pakistan

September 18, 2001 St. Albans, England .... [Bettina Krause/ANN]

Expatriate Seventh-day Adventist Church employees and their families are being removed from Pakistan following last week's terrorist tragedy in the United States, reports Patricia Swan, assistant secretary of the Adventist Church in the Trans-European region.

Altogether, eight families have either left or are in the process of leaving the country, with the last of the group scheduled to fly out tomorrow evening.

The decision was made on the advice of embassies of the different countries involved, along with the State Department, says Swan.

Among the employees who have been recalled are two Pakistan Union officers; the principal, business manager, and two faculty members at Pakistan Adventist Seminary; an administrator at Karachi Adventist Hospital; and Pakistan country director of the Adventist Development and Relief Agency.

"Pakistani nationals are in place to continue the work" of the recalled expatriates, says Swan.

Do we have the number of Seventh-day Adventists (natives) in Pakistan and the neighboring Muslim countries?
