A tsunami warning was canceled early Saturday for portions of British Columbia, Canada, and southeastern Alaska, officials said.

The warning was issued following a 7.5-magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast of Alaska 63 miles west of Craig, a town on Prince of Wales Island, and 208 miles south of the capital of Juneau, the U.S. Geological Survey said. Source

This isn't an a "diverse" place as California is very familiar with earthquakes but I didn't want to start a new topic for this. Anyway...

An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7 was reported in Anza, Calif.

The quake was the first of several that popped up at the same time Monday on the U.S. Geological Survey website. It was originally reported as a 5.2 magnitude quake but was then downgraded.

“There’s always that slight chance – slight chance now - that this could be the foreshock of something larger. Probably not. Usually this is just an event all by itself,” Abbot said.

“It doesn’t hurt to keep it in mind, in the next 72 hours in particular," he said. "If a larger one is going to occur it would probably be during that three-day period.” Source

California is overdue.  Southern California and San Francisco are the two places that I envision will be destroyed by earthquakes and maybe a tsunami. God is merciful and is waiting until these two areas have been warned, have been given the message of God's love. Hopefully the Great Controversy Project will reach into San Francisco and L.A.  We passed out 300,000 copies of the book in '89 just the week after the large quake hit Oakland and San Francisco. It was only a warning of what is coming upon those two cities, Sodom and Gomorrah. That is what Ellen White called them in her day. Today, they are even worse. It will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah on judgment day than for these two cities.

I am reminded of the truth that when we hear "peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them." 1 Thess. 5:3.  It was two years ago that Japan was suddenly shaken.

We felt it here in Loma Linda. There have been several earthquakes in this area in the last week or so. We are praying for the Lord's protection, and for a way out if it is His will.

Two earthquakes hit Iran in one week. The latest was a 7.8 and has reportedly caused more deaths in Pakistan than Iran. A magnitude 6.1 temblor struck near Bushehr, on Iran's Persian Gulf coast, killing at least 37. source

Saturday's earthquake in Sichuan province killed at least 186 people, injured more than 11,000 and left nearly two dozen missing, mostly in the rural communities around Ya'an city, along the same fault line where a devastating quake to the north killed more than 90,000 people in Sichuan and neighboring areas five years ago in one of China's worst natural disasters. Yes, in 2008 Seventh-day Adventists were killed and at least 11 of our churches were leveled by that quake. source

By Deema Almashabi - May 11, 2013 4:44 AM MT

An earthquake hit the south of Iran near the Strait of Hormuz this morning, 100 miles east-southeast of Bandar Abbas. Iranian seismologists confirmed the tremor, according to the state-owned Islamic Republic News Agency.

The quake struck at 6:38 a.m. local time and was measured at 6.2 by the U.S. Geological Survey. At least 11 people were injured and five villages destroyed, Tehran-based Press TV reported, citing Mahmoud Mozaffar, the head of the Rescue and Relief Organization of Iran’s Red Crescent Society.

Take a look at this map of the most deadly earthquakes since 1900. Click on "the deadliest". What do you notice? It will soon change.

The largest earthquake to shake California since 2008 occurred in a less studied area of the state, prompting seismologists to head to the Northern California region with more monitoring equipment, officials said Friday.

Thursday's magnitude 5.7 quake struck about 8:47 p.m. about 150 miles northeast of Sacramento; its epicenter was about 27 miles southwest of the town of Susanville and seven miles west-northwest of Greenville.

The mountainous eastern Sierra Nevada region, known for its lakes, rivers and national forests, has had about seven magnitude 4 earthquakes since the 1930s, said David Schwartz, an earthquake geologist for the Northern California USGS division in Menlo Park.

Thursday’s quake did occur in a zone where there are known active faults, Schwartz said, including a series of faults that extend through the northern end of Lake Tahoe all the way to Oregon. But magnitude 5.7 is the strongest recorded in this region.

Peru earthquake 7.0/6.9

The 6.9-magnitude earthquake hit a mountainous area 43 kilometers (27 miles) east-northeast of Tambo at a depth of 101 kilometers (63 miles), according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The USGS revised down the quake's strength from the magnitude of 7.0 that it initially reported, as well as adjusting its data on the location and depth of the epicenter.

I hear you folks had a 4. something earthquake in Michigan, somewhere around Lansing. While that was not a disaster its a little more than a blip.

It was a 4.2 earthquake. Was centered around 5 miles south of Galesburg... Southeast of Kalamazoo... Southwest of Battle Creek. It sounded like a bowling ball rolling around in the upstairs with other strange noises. It lasted for around 10 seconds and stopped. Then started back up again for another 10 seconds or so. A strange feeling while sitting in the chair. It wasn't like the shaking from thunder, or a train or semi going by. First time for me...

A rare tsunami in Greenland. Initially thought to because of an earthquake however, later was determined to because of a very large land slide.

The tsunami hit the village of Nuugaatsiaq just after 23:00 local time on June 17 (01:00 UTC on June 18), sweeping away 11 houses and leaving 4 people dead and 9 injured, 2 of them seriously.

It was initially thought that the tsunami was created by a magnitude 4.0 earthquake with the epicenter 28 km (17.4 miles) north of the village of Nuugaatsiaq on the western coast of Greenland. However, reconnaissance flights performed by the Danish Joint Arctic Command on June 18 discovered a large landslide scar (approximately 300 x 1 100 m / 985 x 3 600 feet), thus confirming that the cause of the tsunami was a landslide.
