CDC Statement!
« on: July 11, 2006, 09:05:00 AM »
I found this interesting from the CDC when it came to having pets they make this statement:

"Although animals can carry germs, it is important to know that you are more likely to get some of these germs from contaminated food or water than from your pet or another animal you encounter."

I wonder if they are talking about eating meat of animals or food in general?

I wonder why they would make the statement. They have become a politicised organization. You would think that they would understand the risk from pet food made with cow brains from cows that are not allowed into the human food chain. They know that mad cow and scrapie material ends up in pet food. They also know that fleas, ticks, and mosquitos feed on pets and then on humans. There is a turning away from the truth in the world.

There are communicable diseases among humans and they seem to think that there is a specie barrior between pets and humans. Just like the USDA thinks there is a barrior between "mad deer" and "mad sheep" and man. There is none.

My question is has there ever been any study done to see of those who have pets, or those who work in animal hospitals, have a higher degree of sickness than those that do not? Consistently all I've ever seen is that those that have pets are actually healthier.

CDC is advising that U.S. consumers not eat any romaine lettuce, and retailers and restaurants not serve or sell any, until we learn more about the outbreak. This investigation is ongoing and the advice will be updated as more information is available.

Consumers who have any type of romaine lettuce in their home should not eat it and should throw it away, even if some of it was eaten and no one has gotten sick.
This advice includes all types or uses of romaine lettuce, such as whole heads of romaine, hearts of romaine, and bags and boxes of precut lettuce and salad mixes that contain romaine, including baby romaine, spring mix, and Caesar salad.
If you do not know if the lettuce is romaine or whether a salad mix contains romaine, do not eat it and throw it away.
Wash and sanitize drawers or shelves in refrigerators where romaine was stored. Follow these five steps to clean your refrigerator.

Thanks for posting that Jim. As I recall the problem is again e coli bacteria. That is a deadly bacteria that is especially fatal to young children.

Fortunately, unless the number has gone up from 32 that's only 1 in 10,000,000 people. Our chances of being killed in a car wreck is higher.

The risk of being infected by E.coli when eating a hamburger is probably even less!

Here is an update.

https://www.cdc.gov/ecoli/2018/o157h7-11-18/

Based on new information, CDC is narrowing its warning to consumers. CDC is advising that U.S. consumers not eat and retailers and restaurants not serve or sell any romaine lettuce harvested from the Central Coastal growing regions of northern and central California. If you do not know where the romaine is from, do not eat it.

Romaine lettuce products will be labeled with a harvest location by region. It may take some time before these labels are available.
If the romaine lettuce is not labeled with a harvest growing region, do not buy, serve, sell, or eat it.
