Oh, but we wouldn't do that either because of the milk, eggs & baking soda.  :)

There are many reasons this recall won't affect us! :D

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday that at least 12 people have been hospitalized — two of them with a severe illness — in connection with a possible E. coli outbreak in beef that has sickened people in nine states.

The CDC said two of those people have suffered kidney failure and 23 people may have become ill from eating beef produced at the JBS USA packing plant in Greeley. Most if not all of them consumed ground beef, and Chandler Keys, JBS spokesman, said none of the product in question that left Greeley was ground beef.

The first illness was reported April 2 — before the beef left the Greeley plant — and the last on June 13. The CDC said Wisconsin and Michigan appear to be the hardest hit by the outbreak so far, with six people ill in each state. Other cases were reported in California, Maine, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico and New York.

Between E-coli, BSE, Leukemia, etc., when do you think people will finally stay away from meat products? It is like playing Russian Roulette with your life.

I sent this info to my oldest son.  He wasn't feeling too well yesterday and had eaten beef the day before, after not having had it for awhile.  Even he connected how he was feeling with what he had eaten!  Maybe this will help convince him further.

Evaluating what I have seen at typical SDA fellowship dinners I believe the recall affects our people generally.  :-[

To even mention this is apt to invite responses like, " Well... what about when there was a problem with strawberries?"

So true. Our fellowship lunches/dinners are killing us. There must be reform in this area and it begins in my kitchen.

Every time my kids get tempted and eat beef lately (because they don't always agree with me), they end up feeling sick at their stomachs. It's very clear to me that we aren't to be eating meat. Most of the time lately though, they ask me for veggie meals, or suggest different things that they haven't like in the past. Praise the Lord!

Much of the infectious disease in our fruits and veggies is coming from animal sources. But, you cannot convince those who do not want to know the truth. Many people in the world want to know, the problem is in the church. It is very sad that they injure their children and others. :(

A deadly outbreak of E. coli has been traced to a large producer of ground beef that stopped testing its ingredients years ago under pressure from beef suppliers. A facility in Ashville, N.Y., owned by the company, AFA Foods, recalled more than 500,000 pounds of ground beef on Oct. 31 after it was linked to an outbreak that has killed two people and sickened an estimated 500 others.  source

And the band played on.

The world has been ready for health reform for a long time. To whom much is given, much is expected. The watchmen have failed and God is raising up new watchmen. Shall we allow the mothers and fathers to go unwarned?

In 1902 this was written that the world might understand:

Let the diet reform be progressive. Let the people be taught how to prepare food without the use of milk or butter. Tell them that the time will soon come when there will be no safety in using eggs, milk, cream, or butter, because disease in animals is increasing in proportion to the increase of wickedness among men. The time is near when, because of the iniquity of the fallen race, the whole animal creation will groan under the diseases that curse our earth.  God will give His people ability and tact to prepare wholesome food without these things. Let our people discard all unwholesome recipes.

At that time flesh food had already been labeled as unfit for human consumption because of the disease in the animals.

Yet another "event" in six states. An E. coli outbreak has prompted the recall of 248,000 pounds of beef products produced by National Steak and Poultry, of Owasso, Oklahoma. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety & Inspection Service (FSIS), the recalled beef may be tainted with E. coli O157:H7, and has been associated with a cluster of illnesses in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, South Dakota and Washington.  source

Natural ingredients labeled as "flavoring" included in some vegetarian packaged foods are said to include matter from beef and chicken. Can you imagine how wide spread this could get?

E. Coli is a bacteria and is easily killed with heat. Most processed (cooked) meat is not a risk for E Coli.

Unlike bacteria, spongiform and virus pose a risk even after cooking. A new science!

The most common vector for e-coli infections comes from hamburger meat. The meat is often made from cuttings from many cows, sometimes from different processing plants. It also can come from trimmings that are more likely to come in contact with parts of the cow that are contaminated with the e-coli. Ground meat is one of the most likely foods to be contaminated with e-coli.

The ground meat that is infected can be a source to infect other foods when it is being handled prior to cooking. Ie, foods that are not cooked such as salads, dressings, fruit that come in contact with counter tops, cutting boards, hands, and knives.

The public is exposed to a very real risk from e-coli, including those who do not eat animal products, but eat at food establishments or homes that serve meat or meat products.

Ms. Smith, 22, was found to have a severe form of food-borne illness caused by E. coli, which Minnesota officials traced to the hamburger that her mother had grilled for their Sunday dinner in early fall 2007.

“I ask myself every day, ‘Why me?’ and ‘Why from a hamburger?’ ”Ms. Smith said. In the simplest terms, she ran out of luck in a food-safety game of chance whose rules and risks are not widely known.

“Ground beef is not a completely safe product,” said Dr. Jeffrey Bender, a food safety expert at the University of Minnesota who helped develop systems for tracing E. coli contamination. He said that while outbreaks had been on the decline, “unfortunately it looks like we are going a bit in the opposite direction.”

The is another E-coli outbreak, this time it has infected lettuce in the US.

The Food and Drug Administration said late Monday that a food distributor in Moore, Okla., is recalling romaine lettuce that came from the same farm in Yuma, Ariz., that grew lettuce that sickened students in Michigan, Ohio and New York. Ohio-based Freshway Foods announced a 23-state recall of romaine lettuce last week related to those outbreaks.

At least 19 people have been sickened in connection with the E. coli outbreaks, which come from a rare strain of the disease that is difficult to diagnose. Officials at the federal Centers for Disease Control say they are looking at an additional 10 probable cases of E. coli poisoning from tainted lettuce.

Of the people with the confirmed cases of E. coli illness reported since March 1, 12 required hospitalization, including three who have a life threatening complication that can damage kidneys called hemolytic uremic syndrome, the FDA said.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that as of May 5 there have been 10 confirmed and three probable cases of E. coli O145 illness in Michigan, two confirmed and five probable cases in New York, and seven confirmed and two probable cases in Ohio. source
