Brother Richard, what you discribe is indeed an odd problem. I'll do a little digging and see what I can find.
Until then, if you haven't already, I'd try completely delete all the cache, cookies, and history. My guess is that this won't take care of the problem but it is worth a shot and will only take about a minute to do.
BTW: are you using Firefox or IE?
