The Influence of Desmond Ford
« on: March 15, 2019, 11:23:29 PM »
Desmond Ford passed to his rest March 11 in Australia at age 90. The news of his death will bring to church a wave of discussion about the theology of the defrocked pastor. Why is it that so many do not believe in the "investigative judgment"? Ford has taught against it for many years when in the church and all of his years since leaving the church's pulpit.

Here is Desmond Ford in his own words telling you he rejects the light given in the Spirit of Prophecy.

He tells us that there are many still in the church who believe as he did.
Jesus receives His reward when we reflect His character, the fruits of the Spirit......We deny Jesus His reward when we do not.

So he defended himself to the very end.  His heresy is the direct result of putting more faith in the "scholarship" of men, than in the inspired testimony of God's messenger to the remnant church.  And, based on this short video, he seems to not even understand the IJ.  Admittedly, it was not always taught accurately, but Clifford Goldstein says he can prove the IJ from Scripture more easily than he can the Sabbath.  That's quite a statement, but it shows how solid the doctrine is, in spite of Ford's assertions to the contrary.

We can be thankful that God is the one doing the judging, because from a human perspective, Ford has a lot of "blood" on  this hands.  How many  have been deceived by his heresies and left the church because of it?  Thousands; maybe more.  Because rejection of the IJ leads naturally to rejection of the SOP.  And once that  happens one is left to flounder around in confusion.
So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants:  we have done that which was our duty to do.  Luke 17:10

In one or two sentences, what did Ford believe about the IJ or why there isn't one?

It can't be explained in a few sentences.  He misunderstands or misapplies several passages of Scripture to come to his erroneous conclusions.

By the way, where did you get your picture, which appears to be of Moraine Lake in Banff Nat. Park, Alberta?  My picture was taken by my son in 2006, on a family trip to Banff.

In one or two sentences, what did Ford believe about the IJ or why there isn't one?
The IJ is an important doctrine that supports the true gospel. It has been greatly perverted by many in the church. The false gospels cannot allow it to survive in tact. When one sins, he does not have life. In the IJ it will be revealed who died in Christ or out of Christ, who was truly converted and who was not. The standard is the law of God. Moral character is revealed in the books which are opened in heaven. Those whose character was transformed will  be seen by the record in the books. The judgment reaches past revealed behavior to the thoughts and motives of the heart. This is hated by many who have not been truly converted. They have believed a lie that one may have eternal life without repenting of known sin.

Ford preached a false gospel and thus he had to do away with the IJ. He believed Jesus went into the Most Holy Place before 1844, when He ascended to heaven after His resurrection. He also believed and taught that Jesus had the nature of Adam before the fall. He had to teach this in order to explain why we cannot keep the law and Jesus did. The road to heaven is narrow and steep, but all may attain this if they will love Jesus with the whole heart, not just part of it. All must be surrendered before the heart can be cleansed of sin. It is the revelation of the loveliness of Jesus that brings repentance and salvation. When the heart is wholly given to Jesus, then the Holy Spirit takes possession of the heart and brings into the life of the repentant sinner all of the fruits of the Spirit, not one is missing. What a miracle!! We may have this experience today if we will learn of Him who gave all that we might live.
Jesus receives His reward when we reflect His character, the fruits of the Spirit......We deny Jesus His reward when we do not.
