Paradise California Fire (Camp Fire)
« on: November 14, 2018, 11:42:24 AM »

The campfire which began last Thursday morning has burned 135,000 acres, devastated the town of Paradise and killed at least 48 people in Paradise and Concow. The death toll is still growing as more areas are being searched. 52,000 have been evacuated from the affected areas. It is the most deadly and destructive wildfire in California history. More than 7,600 homes have been destroyed in the fire.

There have been two Seventh-day Adventists killed in the fire. One in Paradise and one in Concow. We are continuing to verify that church members from the Paradise, Upper Ridge (Magalia), Oroville, and Golden Feather Churches are accounted for. All four of these churches have members living in the burned area.

Those seeking to help church members who are victims of the fire may donate to the Oroville Seventh-day Adventist Church, indicating on the check that the funds are for the "Camp Fire Victims."  The donation is tax deductible.

President of the Seventh-day Adventist World Church calls for prayers

We want to express our sincere condolences and Christian love to the many people who are facing great loss from the horrific fire in the town of Paradise and other parts of Butte County in northern California. While we do not yet know the full extent of the damage, our hearts go out to all who are affected by this calamity.

We particularly extend our sympathy to the members and friends of the Paradise Seventh-day Adventist Church, who have lost their beautiful church home. We praise God that, as far as we know at this time, there was no loss of life.

We also thank the Lord that much of Adventist Health’s Feather River Hospital was preserved, and honor the Adventist Health team at Enloe Medical Center and Oroville Hospital and all of the first responders who safely evacuated the staff and patients of Adventist Health Feather River.

Although the Kindergarten-Grade 4 section of Paradise Adventist Academy was lost in the fire, we are thankful that the rest of the school remains intact.

Living in this sinful world full of unexpected disasters, we hold in our hearts God's promise that very soon, we will live forever in the New Earth free from sin and disasters.  Jesus is coming soon!  I call on Seventh-day Adventists worldwide to pray for the recovery and resettlement of the thousands who have faced this tragedy.  As you see people around you in need, let’s follow Christ’s ministry of helping people physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually.

Ted N.C. Wilson, President
Seventh-day Adventist Church

Well Richard, thanks for posting this. Tonight was the first night I've turned on the evening news in...well I can't remember.. hoping to get an update and they didn't cover the fire or I missed it. So this was interesting and very sad.   6000 homes is what I heard on that clip. That is just crazy. The devil is hard at work. I've already heard some people wanting to declare this a judgment from God on california.

So strange how so much devastation could occur and still leave traces of things untouched. Like the occasional home or vehicle. Strange how it left so many trees still standing and seemingly only scorched.

Jim, sadly it's over 10,000 homes now. And 80 lives so far have been lost.  there are now over 800 reported missing.

The disaster in Paradise grows as more houses are discovered destroyed and the death toll continues to rise. Over 80 deaths and over 13,000 homes have been lost. The two lists grow larger daily. While many in America celebrate Thanksgiving Day, there are multitudes who have lost everything

Just got news that a friends friend is found to have escaped the fire. My neighbor in Concord California shared with me that she was praying for a friend that she could not find who lived in Paradise. She traveled to Chico to do an interview with CBS in hopes that the television news might aid in finding her friend. Here is the news story from yesterday.

Sometimes a fire moves through so fast that it is more like a flash. 60 mph. On the other hand it is amazing how slow a fire can burn. There has been a firing burning continuously for the past 55 years in Centralia, Penn.. A mostly covered up and abandoned coal mine was started on fire when someone was burning their garbage in 1962.. Attempts to put it out several times have failed. It is still burning today and though a ghost town is a tourist attraction.
It's easier to slow a fast horse down than to get a dead one going.
