NAD Educating Youth at Fuller
« on: June 23, 2018, 08:54:37 PM »
Yes, it was exciting to hear Elder Ted Wilson explain at the Atlanta GC Session just after his election as GC president, that we do not want to send our people to Sunday institutions to learn their ways. We are calling the faithful out of Babylon, not sending our people into Babylon to learn their ways. But, now we have the North American Division sending our youth to Fuller Institute to study a youth program developed by Fuller Faculty.

This spring, more than 30 Adventist church members, leaders, and innovators from across the North American Division (NAD) of the Seventh-day Adventist Church convened at Fuller Youth Institute in Pasadena, California, to complete the Growing Young certified speaker training and participate in the Growing Young Adventists (#GYA) cohort summit.

Not just our youth, but adult leaders went to Fuller to learn also. The Growing Young written by those affilated with Fuller is the study book for our youth who are already organized to bring their message in NAD churches throughout America in an attempt to bring about a "cultural" change.

Not only were youth specialists involved in the recent training, NAD ministerial, seminar professors, and young adults themselves joined in the certification process. The Growing Young book, which was used in the training, endorses the value of intergenerational relationships, but for the Adventist trainees, the power of inter-ministry and inter-agency collaboration became a catalytic ideal to refresh the “movement-momentum” that has been characteristic of the denomination since its inception.

It seems things are beginning to accelerate in the wrong direction.

Yah, Mike Tucker spoke at the WV campmeeting last week. He said he "equipped" the youth in his former church and let them do whatever they wanted for church service for the next six months while he defended them. He said that we need to let them make mistakes and that people were coming to church who had not come to church for years. Joel Olsteen could say the same thing. He also commented that we as adults have not been doing such a great job anyway. So, if your foot has infection cut your whole leg off ? A tell tale statement was when he said as a youth growing up in the church it was just a bunch of dos and don'ts.

Also, the Hispanic youth  leader of the conference asked if we were ready to do what it takes to bring youth into the church. My reply would be, " not necessarily."

While they had good speaking on health with Hans Diehl they do not get it when it comes to music. They also promoted George Knight.

That doesn't surprise me out of Mike Tucker.

Our new pastor is looking to make some changes and it looks like the bulk of the congregation is going to follow suit. The slippery slope of compromise is getting steeper and people are sliding faster.

What kind of changes are happening at your church?

No, I was expecting that. The dead give away was when he started talking about his childhood and all the does and don'ts. He acted a bit miffed about it.

I know your conferance  and ministerial director  and that doesn't surprise me either.

Sorry, I just noticed you'd replied.
The pastor is allowing coffee to be available in the Youth Sabbath School class and new music is on the way in.

The pastor should be fired, unless he repents.

Last year when I was head elder I brought it up in one of our meetings. I didn't get much of a response from most. As it turns out, our pastor drinks coffee as does probably half the elders. It would be hard to get our pastor fired as he is the nephew of our conference president.

the fact that you did not get much response indicates the pathetic condition of the church. You will get nowhere but you can still speak to the subject time to time. SOP is to clear to sweep this under the rug. The problem runs much deeper than drinking coffee. The bigger problem is the rejection of Inspiration. I know I'm speaking to thye choir here. :-). In the conference you speak of that surprises me not at all.

Even if he were to repent he probably ought not have a church for a while. To toss the SOP out on its ear is not a minor matter and time should be given to see if he is really on board.

The same is coming to our church next month.  Our new COR church will begin and they will be serving coffee.  $300/month will come out of the church budget to help with expenses for that second service.  Some of us trying to figure out whether to continue directing our offerings to our church budget.  So they are compromising our health message in order to provide the world (who they are hoping to attract) and our young people what they want.

They will also be getting a woman pastor through that program the NAD provides.  You get them right out of school and the state conference pays part of their salary but the local church has to come up with $18,000 or $1,800/month in pledges.  And we have two woman elders this year.

Who would fire the pastor?  Our state conference in total agreement.

A few months ago our pastor tried to introduce a new program for our church. He ran it by the elders first. It was a spiritual gifts program produced by Willow Creek. The pastor said they went through it at his previous churches and that it was supported by other Adventist pastors. I asked if I could take it home to look at it and he agreed.

Turns out the pastors that approve this program are Monte Sahlin and Loren Seibold from AT and others of the same cloth. At the next elders meeting I mentioned that Spirit of Prophecy counsels us not to use materials from Babylon like this to learn from, because the enemy of souls is way to crafty for us and we won't be able to discern where truth ends and error begins. Then another elder spoke about how Sahlin and Seibold are so controversial and argumentative. Fortunately I didn't have to say much more and the pastor dropped it and has never mentioned it since.

At the last nominating committee one of the ladies on the committee asked if it wasn't about time to ordain a woman elder. The pastor said our church was split on the topic but that he has no problem with it, so it probably won't be long and we will be dealing with that also.

Dear Lord, please come quickly.
