Have you wondered how mom is going to keep one egg warm while allowing the other egg to hatch? An eaglet will need to breathe. How to keep it warm and not smoother it while keeping both egg and eaglet warm?
Watching mom this morning a little before 6am, she started rolling one of the eggs, and inspecting it. It is now a little past 6:30 am in Georgia, she has rolled one egg off to the side and is inspecting it regularly. At first I thought it might not be viable since it was the first time she rolled it so far off to the side. But, as she settled back down, her body still kept the egg close and her wing was protecting it. She has not abandoned the egg. She has separated it and is giving more attention to it.
As I am watching her head, I see the wind blowing from her left and lifting the feathers on her head up. The egg is under her right wing, thus is downwind with her body a buffer against the wind coming from her left side. Wind has slowed quite a bit.
