Spring 2015
« on: March 13, 2015, 03:36:01 PM »
Well I now can say that spring is here or at least right around the corner. Today when I got home there were 2 pieces of evidence.

1) I heard the song of a Red Winged Black Bird

2) The snow pile next to my driveway is no longer taller than me  :)
By communion with God in nature, the mind is uplifted, and the heart finds rest.  {DA 291.1}

My average first date for Red-winged Blackbird is March 12.  I finally saw a report of a few down in the southern tip of the State on Wednesday.  We've lost nearly a foot of snow in the past 2 weeks, but we've not almost 2 more to go.  Not much up here to attract any migrants. It was 7° this morning.   And we're supposed to get another 6-10" of snow tomorrow night into Sunday.  This is looking too much like last spring.  :(

It's in the 60's here and lots of rain. But I'm not complaining about the rain. At least it isn't sleet/freezing rain/wintery mix/ or snow.  :D

Well, I'm not freezing or skiing on ice.  ;D

We have global warming spring down here in the southwest. It is presently 680. Plants are coming up, so I will do a little raking and caretaking today! Yippie!

Amen!  It is a lesson that has spiritual meaning for us who have been dead in trespasses and sins. There is life after death. And, even better things are soon coming for all who have been forgiven their sins after accepting the sacrifice made by Christ.

Amen! I found much life beneath the dead growth of last year.  :)

I heard the song of a Red Winged Black Bird

They are always a joy to see and hear, but they don't frequent my area until our sunflowers are in bloom. I'll have to try spicing up the bird feeder with more sunflower seeds and possibly add a suet feeder to see if I can attract any.

One lone Red-winged Blackbird showed up (looking rather confused in the falling snow) last Tuesday.  The "flock" doubled today.  ::)  But one of them was at least singing.

Spring is having a difficult time staying with us.  It's snowing lightly right now.   It's been cool and "unsettled" all week.  At least it will prolong the early spring flower season.  Crocuses and Snowdrops are still blooming.  Daphne has started and Daffodils are just starting.
