'Extreme' solar storm heading to Earth
« on: September 10, 2014, 05:41:15 PM »
WASHINGTON (AP) — An extreme solar flare is blasting its way to Earth and could mess up some power grids, satellites and radio transmissions, scientists say.

It's been several years since Earth has had a solar storm of this size coming from sunspots smack in the middle of the sun, said Tom Berger, director of the Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder, Colorado.

Solar storms happen often, especially during peaks in the solar cycle, and don't directly harm people. But what makes this one more worrisome is its location on the sun along with its strength, he said.

"There's been a giant magnetic explosion on the sun," Berger said. "Because it's pointed right at us, we'll at least catch some of the cloud" of highly energized and magnetized plasma that can disrupt Earth's magnetic sphere, which sometimes leads to temporary power grid problems.

Forecasters don't yet know when Wednesday's solar storm will arrive here and which part of the planet will be facing the sun and bear the brunt of the effects. It could arrive as early as Thursday morning or may take a few days.

Berger said scientists will have a better idea after they get more satellite data. The first part of the storm, which arrives in only a few minutes, has already affected radio transmissions. It can also damage satellites.

The flare is considered "extreme" on forecasters' scale, but just barely so, Berger said.

On the plus side, sun flares expand the colorful northern lights so people farther south can see them..

What comes to mind when I read this is the alarming statement made by EGW where she saw balls of fire hitting the cities. Many have wondered what that might be anywhere from man made weapons, to the supernatural , to meteors. I'm wondering what a huge solar flare shower hitting a city would look like. I have not researched to see if that would appear like balls of fire hitting the earth. Has anyone researched what that might look like ?

The Egyptians worshipped frogs and the Lord sent them a plague of frogs. When a nation worships the sun (even by implication) might the Lord send them pieces of the sun ?

That is a very interesting point which I have never heard before. It is possible that the Lord's wrath will come in such a form to punish the earth.

This is a  very real threat to modern societies.  Many things such as electricity, water pumps, automotive electronics can be effected. In  moment a large part of the Earth can be brought to a standstill. And, if one lives in a large city, where will they get their water and their food? The result can be very similar to an E.M.P blast that disables most electronics. "Electromagnetic pulses (EMP) are oversized outbursts of atmospheric electricity. Whether powered by geomagnetic storms or by nuclear blasts, their resultant intense magnetic fields can induce ground currents strong enough to burn out power lines and electrical equipment across state lines." source

If we have been walking in the light, then we will be ok. But, if not, then what? Are you ready for what has already begun to break upon the earth?
