Cancer causing agent Triclosan in Colgate Total toothpaste
« on: August 28, 2014, 09:49:49 PM »

It was to my surprise tonight to read an article which stated that the anti-bacterial ingredient named triclosan used in the very popular Colgate Total toothpaste causes cancer. According to the Bloomberg article,
Quote
"The chemical triclosan has been linked to cancer-cell growth and disrupted development in animals. "

Here are  three August 2014 articles on Colgate Total toothpaste and the effects of triclosan. The Bloomberg report is more extensive for those who are interested in more details. For those of you who use Colgate Total it is well worth a read.

Thanks for the warning, Curt. It is pretty bad when they put it in something that enters the body. Triclosan has been a concern recently as a antibiotic in hand soap. To find it is in toothpaste is not good. It is known to be a endocrine disruptor.  Triclocarban and Triclosan are both endocrine disruptors and are "found in cosmetics, soap, deodorant, sponges, toothpaste, cutting boards, shoes, towels and clothes. A limited body of research has explored how triclosan affects breast cancer cells. Evidence does suggest that triclosan can affect aquatic wildlife and the hormonal systems of mice. It may impact male and female hormones like testosterone and estrogen, and may also affect thyroid systems, which regulate weight and metabolism."  source
