Genetics and Ethics
« on: October 16, 2013, 08:12:00 AM »
The internet has provided great opportunities for education. Along with beneficial education comes a very real risk of taking in information that is either untrue or harmful. The seriousness of the risk is seen in the great strides being made in genetic engineering. With the world approaching the same level of corruption and immorality that existed just before the great flood, we are seeing a return to the amalgamation of species.

Before science is found guilty of such a practice, there are many other unethical advances that will greatly offend the morality of a moral people and their God. It is a spiritual battlefield where the bottom of the pit falls far below where man is able to go alone. There is one who is intent on destroying the image of God in man. The advance of science is beyond what many of us know. And, the extent to which we may participate in that science has moved beyond what many know.

There is a company called 23andMe. It is a commercial enterprise that will provide personal genetic information to you.  Are you ready for this information? Will it help you, hurt you, or will it have neither effect on your life? Something to think about. And, what will be done with this information by you, or by those that become privy to that information? Is it possible that you will be able to influence the color of your future child's eyes? Or maybe the size of his brain? The questions we can ask are endless. What about the ethics of such things? Are they safe? Are they ethical? These are personal and societal questions that we all shall soon have to wrestle with. In the meantime, you need to understand how far along science and business have progressed. Check out 23andMe and their core values.
Jesus receives His reward when we reflect His character, the fruits of the Spirit......We deny Jesus His reward when we do not.

Sometimes its good to know the relationships between businesses....

Since being founded in 2006, 23andMe has amassed more than $161 million in funding over four rounds, largely due to the vote of confidence the company received from Google. The relationship, of course, is no secret — 23andMe was started by Anne Wojcicki, Google founder Sergey Brin’s (now estranged) wife and the sister of long-time Google executive Susan Wokcicki. Still, it has proven to be attractive for other investors as well, garnering $50 million in Series D funding in 2012. Source

When companies like Ancestry.com and 23andMe first invited people to send in their DNA for genealogy tracing and medical diagnostic tests, privacy advocates warned about the creation of giant genetic databases that might one day be used against participants by law enforcement. DNA, after all, can be a key to solving crimes. It “has serious information about you and your family,” genetic privacy advocate Jeremy Gruber told me back in 2010 when such services were just getting popular. source
