A Woman to Lead Men in Keene Texas Church
« on: July 19, 2013, 08:27:44 AM »
"When Subway Restaurant moved to Old Betsy Village in 2002 and opened on Saturdays, it altered the way things had been done in Keene for more than a century. Another change could be on her way." Keene Star.

The plans made by the North America Division to place women as leaders of men in the church is making headway with the selection of Jennifer Scott as the new "senior pastor" at the Keene (Seventh-day) Adventist Church.  She will replace Mic Thurber, who was the senior pastor of the 3,000-member church. He is now the ministerial director for the Mid America Union in Lincoln, Neb.  She attended Columbia Union College and Fuller Theological Seminary.

Men serving under Jennifer Scott include Pastor Geraldo Alonso, Pastor Jerrod Songy, Pastor Jim Teel, and Pastor Jose Aparicio.

A few steps into "Compromise," leads to another and yet another. I am very sorry to read this. My family lived in that area for many years when something such as this was never a consideration.

Mic Thurber spoke at our last camp meeting in Gulf States Conference.  Unfortunately his discourses were less than expected.  He quoted those such as Frederick Buchner, Dallas Willard, Kyle Idleman, etc.  He talked about the "holy presence," etc.  Another sad and disappointing experience.

The churches located where we have institutions of "higher" education suffer from the same things that the schools suffer from. If we examine the institutions of "higher" education in the world, we find that they are leaders in the destruction of Protestant society. And even in Roman Catholicism, their universities are hotbeds of rebellion. So it is within many of our colleges and universities in the North American Division, Europe, and Australia, they are generally leaders in rebellion.

In our Sabbath School lessons this quarter we are studying the need for revival and reformation. As we continue to watch the situation deteriorate with the placing of women as leaders over men, we may think that this rebellion is "the shaking" but it is not. It is only a symptom of the real problem. Pastor Finley, the author of this quarter's lessons has done a very good job of addressing the real problem, the Laodicean condition of the church. This condition is not restricted to the laity, but sadly infects the leadership also. When the schools that educate the pastors are suffering from unconsecrated teachers, then what do we expect from the pastoral ministry? "The shaking" has started with the publishing of the Sabbath School lessons this quarter. It is the counsel of the True Witness that is causing the disturbance. It will continue sound throughout the church and will be met with not only rejection, but anger by those who refuse to acknowledge the real problem in the church. As painful as this is, it must happen. The truth will do the separating in the church. May God grant us more of His Spirit as the shaking intensifies.

The title may be more aptly named: A Woman to Exercise Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction over Men in Keene Texas Church.

I think that many people are too focused upon Gender rather than qualifications because of having the Holy Spirit and being fully consecrated to God.

Ellen G. White to Brother Johnson, Letter 33, 1879, Manuscript Releases, 19:55-56.
"You are not in sympathy with the great Head of the church. . . . This contemptible picking, faultfinding, seeking spot and stain, ridiculing, gainsaying, that you with some others have indulged in, has grieved the Spirit of God and separated you from God.
It is not always men who are best adapted to the successful management of a church. If faithful women have more deep piety and true devotion than men, they could indeed by their prayers and their labors do more than men who are unconsecrated in heart and life."
Matthew 9:36-38
36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
