US Marching Toward the Fiscal Cliff
« on: November 20, 2012, 12:35:28 AM »

US Corporations are slowing or delaying large projects amid fears of the US falling over the "fiscal cliff" on January 2.  Such a fall could lead to a double dip recession. And, in an effort to avert a fall over the cliff, there are other dangers that could lead to damaging an economic recovery. Ultra conservatives cry that any tax increase will lead to economic disaster. On the other hand, America could be facing "austerity" similar to Greece if the economy does not see increased stimulus from either private or public sources.

The corruption in business, education, unions, churches, and government has insured that we have a problem that will not be solved. It is not the emergency being faced by the White House and Congress in regards to the Federal budget. No, it is a much greater problem.  The financial disaster facing the United States and the world is a result of the immorality in the world. There is a rejection of Bible truth by all of the institutions I named, even professing Christian churches.

What is on the horizon? Economic disaster for the United States and Europe. The rest of the world will follow. An example of the magnitude of the problem can be seen by the enormous deficits created by the United States government. The trillion dollar amounts cannot be understood by the common man. It is an amount so large that one who has not worked with such large numbers has no idea of the size.

Today, with interest rates so very low, artificially kept low, the payment on the national debt is large, but nothing compared to when interest rates double or triple or worse go up by ten times. The wealthy  will pay higher taxes, but they will not be able to pay all that is going to be needed when interest rates are no longer kept low. Money does not grow on trees. When the government thinks that it does, then sooner or later the the real cost of printing money will be seen. Who will get hurt the most? The rich will be richer, the poor will be even poorer, but the working middle class will become the working poor.

There is a cliff ahead, one much more dangerous than the deadline in a couple of weeks. The only safety that we can hope for will be found in Christ. He will carry us though what is just ahead, or for many, is already here.
Jesus receives His reward when we reflect His character, the fruits of the Spirit......We deny Jesus His reward when we do not.

Yes how true. Financial disaster will bring out the worst in society, otherwise "good" men will turn into demons when faced with even a cut in their income, let alone, no money at all coming in. Crime will skyrocket, law abiding men will do anything to get money, even rob and kill. IMO, financial disaster might be one of the first things that will bring on the biblical time of trouble.

And yes, there is corruption fueled by greed and selfishness in every business in the world large and small only thing that varies is to what degree. It is much past due, a solid walk with Jesus and trusting Him fully as never before is the only way to survive what is coming. Obsessed with the things of this world is foolishness that will only lead to destruction.

A distant church friend and I were talking today on the phone. It was brought up how people change when their own personal interests are at stake. I mentioned that most people would not beat up an innocent person for no reason. However, I wonder how many people would beat up an innocent person for  $1,000,000 if they would not be penalized. Of course there is no way to know that but I suspect the number would be higher than one would imagine. Then I wonder how many people would beat up an innocent person if they felt justified because they thought you deserved it, were guilty, and they were suffering severely because of you.

There is an interesting passage in the chapter "The Last Crisis" in Testimonies 9 starting on page 11. (Hmmm) I'm sure most are familiar with it, but it seems more and more contemporary. Note the sequence of events she covers, including James 5 and the financial system.

Yes, Larry, those few pages contain solemn imagery and some of the most oft quoted lines we know of:

There are not many, even among educators and statesmen, who comprehend the causes that underlie the present state of society. Those who hold the reins of government are not able to solve the problem of moral corruption, poverty, pauperism, and increasing crime. They are struggling in vain to place business operations on a more secure basis. If men would give more heed to the teaching of God's word, they would find a solution of the problems that perplex them.  {9T 13.3}
     The Scriptures describe the condition of the world just before Christ's second coming. Of the men who by robbery and extortion are amassing great riches, it is written: "Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. Behold, the hire of the laborers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you." James 5:3-6.  {9T 13.4}
     But who reads the warnings given by the fast-fulfilling signs of the times? What impression is made upon worldlings? What change is seen in their attitude? No more than was seen in the attitude of the inhabitants of the Noachian world. Absorbed in worldly business and pleasure, the antediluvians "knew not until the Flood came, and took them all away." Matthew 24:39. They had heaven-sent warnings, but they refused to listen. And today the world, utterly regardless of the warning voice of God, is hurrying on to eternal ruin.  {9T 14.1}

And this is what is happening in Washington and around the world at this very moment.
  For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. Psalm 119:89

Amen!  And that is the fall that none will be able to prevent. The cliff is looming greater and greater. Our only safety is in Christ. Let us turn to Him with the whole heart that we may have His presence and blessings.

We got off topic. Split the thread and moved it to Social Hall under new name Corruption in Society.

CNN is reporting a "deal" on the fiscal cliff. It is being presented to the dems at this moment, so we shall see. There are only 3 hours left.  Nothing like a good dose of drama on the very last day of the year.  ::)

Two hours after a midnight deadline, the Senate overwhelmingly passed a bill to avoid the fiscal cliff tax hikes and spending cuts, but the measure faces an uncertain future in the House. - CNN

It is interesting how Obama figured things out.  He is a hero of the middle class, having proposed their taxes not go up, he has gotten the Senate to extend unemployment payments to three years. He has brought many in the middle class into the class of those who are benefiting from his treasury. Not saying what is right or wrong, just stating a fact.

Of course in the long run, it does not mean that he will be a hero. With the disasters all around us, only the pope and my conservative "Christian friends" will be the winners. They will use their influence to obtain a religious law that the disasters caused by rampant immorality might end. Which means that the "conservative class" will win in the end.  And since the end is approaching, that cannot be too far away.

It is time to listen to the Bible rather than the conspiracy theories which abound. From an economic viewpoint, the reality is that Americans have borrowed against their future. What has happened in government is a reflection of what has happened in the lives of many families who have lived beyond their means. All around us throughout the world, we are seeing the fulfillment of Bible prophecy. Good is called evil and evil good. As it was in the days of Noah, so is it today, just as Scripture tells us. "As the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be" Matthew 24:37-39.

The day of the Lord is coming as a thief, not on those who are spiritually awake, but on those who are half asleep, listless and indifferent. The blessing of God rests on the workers who warn those that are unready to meet Him. "Holiness is connected with mercy, as the effect is connected with its cause."

It is interesting the principle that if you prosper more you ought to owe a higher percentage of income tax ( penalty). While before  God we are naturally expected when we have more to give more to the poor (not lazy, it is not a principle in God's Word that man force man to pay  exorbitant amount of his income to  bureaucratic systems out of control  with wanton, wasteful practices many of which go directly against the commandments of God. (like abortion)

40% income tax after all other taxes all along the way is,... theft. And they wonder why companies move outside the US ?  I understand if gov't subsidies are involved. If the gov't and  tax payer has subsidized a business then he has the right to expect a pay back in terms of taxation or some other return . However, if a businessman has prospered with out all the bail outs and hand outs the Gov't has no business raping him with taxes like that not to mention forcing him to pay health care for employees.

 It makes sense to plug loop holes for big business so they have to pay their taxes but to tax business into the ground is wrong.  When business  cannot make it because gov't wants to squeeze out every drop of profit it will affect the middle class. The fewer the businesses the fewer the jobs and the less competition leaving monopolies that result in a strangle hold on the middle class.

    While what Obama did looks good to most because most are not making $400,000 his administration is simply squeezing the middle class from the top down. The big business monopolizes at the top are gov't funded, propped up, and controlled so they will survive quite well.

It's not enough taxes that's the problem, never has been. It's a refusal to spend tax payer's money responsibly.  Now the taxpayers don't have money for them to waste  and they expect a bankrupt gov't to be their god. They are still expecting the fox to  manage the hen house.

If wealthy people ought to be penalized then to be consistent maybe they ought to pass a restriction that says no politician can earn( in any way) more than $250,000 and hold office.  Just a thought.  Of course I will not have to worry about either, being a politician or earning anything close to $250,000.
