Annual Council 2012
« on: October 02, 2012, 11:36:00 AM »
The General Conference must deal with the rebellion by the unions. They have pleaded and instruct, but for a few unions, it did no good. They went ahead and violated their own constitutions and the General Conference mandates to not ordain women pastors. The Seventh-day Adventist Church is not a hierarchy. Therefore, the decision was made by the GC leadership to not act on the matter until the General Conference Annual Council meets this month. What will be done will be done by the world church as a unified church. Delegates from around the world will meet and decide what to do with the rebellious unions.

The theme for this years meeting is "Transforming Grace".  "Grace is capable of transforming the heart of stone into a loving heart; it brings into existence a new life in Christ. This is illustrated in the experience of the prodigal son, the demoniacs, Paul, etc. (Eph 2:4-13)."

As the call for revival and reformation continues, we are seeing evidence that God's grace is attending the call and revival is coming to our church, God's church. His Spirit is moving upon the "valley of dry bones." Praise God!  What is impossible with man, is possible with God. Grace is the transforming power! Grace does not do away with justice, but it is grace that reveals the hope we have as sinners. It is the revelation of the great love that God has for us while we were yet sinners.

The 2012 Annual Council is the annual meeting of the world church's full Executive Committee and will begin Friday, October 5 and continue through October 17.

Pastor Wilson has just finished the Sabbath Service during the Annual Council meeting. It was a blessing to be able to broadcast the sermon. The burden on his heart was the Biblical teaching of unity. It was a heartfelt message that kept Jesus at the center. How did others view the message?

He absolutely was at the center. I was busily taking notes beginning with his core Scripture on Matthew 14, covering a broad spectrum of unity only brought to bear through the death of self (thoughts that are self-willed, stormy and unreasonable, or through "smartness" we believe we have). Utter dependence upon Christ and not that of ourselves is how it will be accomplished. There is no other way.

Neatly tucked in his message of medical missionary work to be accomplished in the cities through simple health practices, was the message, the Bible message, that the Holy Spirit must have a clear mind with which to work. Through diet and the general health message as taught in the Bible, can that be done.

Pastor Wilson has been patient with those who have rejected the authority of the World Church and Scripture. In his sermon he again pointed out the Biblical authority of the World Church when meeting in session.  He called it a "A Successful Process". And then went on to give the Biblical process to resolve church differences:  "We can clearly see that in both Antioch and Jerusalem 'lively' discussions took place, where all were able to share their beliefs regarding controversial issues and frankly acknowledge their differences. When the disagreement became too contentious in Antioch, all parties agreed to take the issue to a general council in Jerusalem, where delegates from other churches gathered. In the meantime, it was agreed to pause the controversy and wait patiently for the decision of the general council, which would be 'universally accepted by the different churches throughout the country.'4 Waiting was certainly not easy, as it required yielding their own convictions of immediate action to the wisdom of the wider group."   Annual Council Sermon

It appears that even though the World Church in session has said "no" to women's ordination twice, he may be willing to wait until the ordination study is completed before acting on the rebellion. It would certainly give him more support, but in the meantime, what will happen?  God knows. God is certainly patient and we ought to be also.

My main concern is that any failure to deal with the rebellion will be perceived as weakness, and will lead to more Unions following the lead of the CUC and the PUC.  I fear some form of anarchy.  On the other hand, strong measures taken against the rebels could cause many to leave the church, who might otherwise have stayed.  It would only reinforce their negative opinions of Elder Wilson.  But if they could see that Wilson and those who stand with him are not the ogres they've been portrayed as, they may yet come to see the light of truth.  But, God is in control and we can only pray that the delegates will be open to the Spirit's promptings.
So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants:  we have done that which was our duty to do.  Luke 17:10

This afternoon's meeting of the General Conference Annual Council produced a document approved by a wide margin refusing to recognize the ordination of women by the conferences acting in opposition to the decision made by two General Conference Sessions to not allow the ordination of women as church pastors. What options are open to the General Confrence in dealing with those who what to do their own thing short of splitting us up completely...or is that what needs to be done at this point? The whole thing is so sad and satan is working hard these days. May God bless and help us all and lead those who are so bent in following their own desires back to God's desire's for them.
With Christian Love,
Marie

God has many ways we know nothing of. We have much evidence that God is leading Pastor Wilson and the World Church. So, we have peace knowing that God is in control and revival and reformation will come to the church. We do not want to be like James and John and ask God to let fire and brimstone fall on the ones working against the truth. We want to see many turn back to Scripture and the unity of the world church. There are many more problems that must be dealt with. The foundation of our faith needs to be solidified.

The study being done on ordination will prove to be a blessing as the church seeks wisdom from Scripture and God's Spirit. It is a spiritual battle and God will win it. We must be found working with Him. Time is running out. Let us be reconciled to our Lord as He prepares a people to receive Him at His second coming.
