"Somebody Prayed"
« on: June 05, 2012, 04:50:53 PM »
Elder Thurber, do you know this song? I have looked for it for years and cannot locate the music or lyrics. It was sung by Henry Reid at my grandfather's funeral, 1980. I will never forget it. These are the words I remember.

Somebody Prayed

Somewhere a brother was bowed down with care
Burdens were pressing, so heavy to bear
Then midst the trial a sweet calm broke through
Somebody prayed, was that somebody you?

Somebody prayed
Somebody prayed
A burden grew lighter
And courage was staid

A sigh turned to song
A faint heart grew strong
And gray skies seemed brighter
For somebody prayed.
For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. Psalm 119:89

Sybil, check this: http://www.hymnary.org/text/somewhere_a_brother_was_bowed_down_with_

It was written by John W. Peterson, 1950
O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. O Lord, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing. Jeremiah  10:23-24

Wow - that's it. No music, no lyrics, but I can get one of those books. Linda, thank you!

Thank you, Elder Thurber. It is my intention to purchase one of the songbooks listed on the site LindaRS gave. I want both music and all lyrics. Thank you, brother.

You'll probably have to find the book used. They all seem to be out of print now.

I am beside myself with pure white joy!

LindaRS found the book, bought it and had it mailed to me! What a Sabbath blessing! How can I thank you? I have wanted this music and the additional verses since 1980. This profoundly touches my heart. Thank you!

Here it is! Click on the song and it will enlarge.

I'm so happy you have it. Now you can record it for us and perhaps the powers that be will embed it for us all to hear.

She has us all excited!  Yes, find a singer and record it so that we all may be blessed!  The words are beautiful.

Yes, they are. I am going to arrange a recording session with some folks at the church and see if we can get this and Silent Night recorded. There is a versatile woman there who can sing any of the three parts for a trio. She will help us out.

Does this mean she is going to sing all three parts?  :)

Not unless she has the vocal talents of Lucifer before his fall.

:)   I was not thinking at the same time.  Record her singing one part with the piano. Then record her singing the second part while listening with headphones to the first recording. And do the same with the third part. Send me all three recordings and I will mix them for you.  :)

I know the process, yes, and I love it when it is done well. Am acquainted with a musician who did this 12 times and his lone voice sounded like a choir! It was beautiful! And thanks for the offer to mix! I may need that down the road!

No, we will be singing a typical trio, Fran, the woman and me. She now has the music and we will begin rehearsals.  :)
