Naoto Kan, the prime minister of Japan, said on Friday that all operations at the Hanaoka Nuclear plant run by Chubu Electric Power Company must be suspended due to the risk to Tokyo. The plant sits atop two major faults that are predicted to rupture soon and could suffer a similar disaster as did Fukushima. The shut down of this plant will further increase the power shortage in Japan that has caused economic hardship on Japanese corporations and the people of Japan. Another sign of the inability of the leaders of the world to set matters on a proper foundation. The plant will be offline until a seawall is built to withstand a larger tsunami.
