Portable Apps

Have you ever been visiting a friend or family and sat down at their computer to browse the web and wish that you had your "Firefox" from home with you? This way you'd have all your bookmarks and addons. Well you can if you have a thumb drive or portable external hard drive and make use of "portable apps". There are several advantages to this but one of the biggest ones is that your host doesn't have to worry that you'll mess something up on their computer since all the activity will take place on your portable drive.

There is a wonderful website out there called Portable Apps you can find it here at www.portableapps.com

The other great thing is that these apps are also free... well free for personal use. Not free for businesses or even churches in some cases. I've been using portable apps now for a long and love it. I'd just thought I'd pass this along.

Are they similar to apps on wireless phones?   And, they will work on a thumb drive?

They are well known apps for Windows operating system... such as FireFox, Pidgin, Open Office, etc...etc.. and yes they will work on a thumb drive. That is the beauty of the whole thing. You can take your programs with you and don't have to "install" them on the guest computer that you're sitting at. You just plug in your thumb drive and run them from there.

You've got to love that kind of convenience!
