Hurricane Earl
« on: September 04, 2010, 03:14:58 AM »
Well, it looks like the hurricane has had a minimal effect on the State so far (it's been downgraded to a tropical storm now).  As I look at the weather reporting stations there seems to be no heavy wind, just lots of rain.  We are on the western fringe of the storm.  It apparently moved farther east than expected, and, instead of going up the Bay of Fundy, it is headed for the southeastern shores of Nova Scotia.  We needed the rain badly, so that is good.  I've measured 1 1/2" so far by 6 a.m., and it's still coming down.  That's almost as much rain as we had for the entire month of July, and August wasn't much better.  The air is certainly tropical, too.  It stayed above 70 all night long, which doesn't happen very often here.

Some of us (whose thinking can sometimes be a bit twisted  ;) )were hoping that it might come a bit closer so as to deposit some rare southern birds on our shores like the last one did (a direct hit in 1991), but I won't complain about the lack of storm damage.

7:30 a.m. update:  more than 2" of rain now, and still coming down.  This exceeds the total for July and is nearly equal to what we got in August.  This will be a big blessing to those with dry wells--and there are many.

Some were praying or Earl to move to the East, and apparently some were praying for it to move to the West. :) Glad you got some rain, Wally!  God is GOOD!
