Thunderbird Address Book
« on: June 09, 2010, 09:10:47 PM »
I just upgraded to Thunderbird 3.0.4. Its new features are quite wonderful; however, I have a problem with the function of the Address Book and always have. Of course, this could be yet another case of P.I.C.N.I.C. [problem in chair, not in computer] but I hope not.

Lately I have had to completely reorganize addresses, adding new lists, etc. For example, I have one for "friends" and when a new friend is added, I go to that particular List and add contact in the appropriate alpha sublist, but that contact does not go into the sublist, it lands in its mother category of "friends" and stays there. So that necessitates copying it into the alpha sublist. It is a step that should be unnecessary because the sublist gives the option of adding to it.

So, for months and months I have thought the list was complete when mailing things, but it wasn't. That is a very irritating thing to discover so long after the fact.

I hope that someone has the answer for you as I don't keep separate lists and address books like you do. You might try digging around in here....

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Mailing_lists#Nested_mailing_lists

It is designed for a parent list from which "child" lists can be created. It has a very valid purpose but it forces me to deal with 1 e-mail address twice.

Thank you for those links. They addressed what I needed. Mozilla needs to delete the ability to add contacts from sublists - that is what I have found that is misleading.

The new features of this upgrade are message tabs on the toolbar, among other things. I love that and the fact that the Address Book automatically deletes duplicate addresses within any given list. That is a huge new feature.
