Songs Of Hope

Singing takes the gloom away

Takes away the black and gray,

Help waits in the Holy Word

Holy music best I've heard.

Worldly music does not raise up

Hope in the heart, with Him to sup,

Does not lead to forgiveness true

A precious gift offered to you.

It Is Well With My Soul, so precious

Written by a man who lost his family,

He did not understand why this happened

But it was well with his soul, what a song.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
            It Is Well With My Soul
   1. When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
      When sorrows like sea billows roll;
      Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
      It is well, it is well, with my soul.
          * Refrain:
            It is well, with my soul,
            It is well, it is well, with my soul.
   2. Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
      Let this blest assurance control,
      That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
      And hath shed His own blood for my soul.
   3. My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
      My sin, not in part but the whole,
      Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
      Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
   4. For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live:
      If Jordan above me shall roll,
      No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life
      Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.
   5. But, Lord, ítis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
      The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
      Oh, trump of the angel! Oh, voice of the Lord!
      Blessed hope, blessed rest of my soul!
   6. And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
      The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
      The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
      Even so, it is well with my soul.
This World Is Not My Home
I'm just passing through,
My treasures are laid up
Somwhere beyond the blue.
The angels beckoned me from heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.
Until Then
Words and music by Stuart Hamblen
copyright 1958
 My heart can sing when I pause to remember
A heart ache here is but a stepping stone.
Along a trail that's winding always upward,
This troubled world is not my final home.
But until then my heart will go on singing,
Until then with joy I'll carry on,
Until the day my eyes behold the city,
Until the day God calls me home.
The things of earth will dim and lose their value,
If we recall they're borrowed for awhile;
And things of earth that cause the heart to tremble,
Remembered there will only bring a smile.
But until then my heart will go on singing,
Until then with joy I'll carry on,
Until the day my eyes behold the city,
Until the day God calls me home.
This weary world with all its toil and struggle,
May take its toll of misery and strife;
The soul of man is like a waiting falcon;
When it's released, it's destined for the skies.
But until then my heart will go on singing,
Until then with joy I'll carry on,
Until the day my eyes behold the city,
Until the day God calls me home.
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee
How Great Thou Art, How Great Thou Art,
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee
How Great Thou Art, how Great Thou Art.
Does your music give you this kind of hope?
Once again this board has proved a blessing!  To find this post this morning is especially meaningful to me.  On Friday evenings (Sabbath) each one of us chooses a hymn to sing during worship time.  My husband chose "It Is Well With My Soul" and our oldest daughter told him, "I knew you were going to pick that one!"   :)  The children know the story behind it and she and I sang it again together when worship was over.
Thank you for your post, Sister Glass.  Singing songs of hope does indeed take the gloom away!
Amen. Rusty and I played that song at your son's memorial. It is my very favorite.
Amen!  And some wonder why we want to sings hymns. It is a battle to keep them in the church. Have a blessed Sabbath!
