SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTISTS AND HEAVENLY MUSIC
Are We in Tune With It?
by John Thurber
“God is love” is written many places in scripture, (1 John 4:7-12) and gives us a glimpse of just how much He loves us in so many ways. One of the ways that is so beautiful is the powerful avenue of music. All of heaven is full of music created to praise God for the wonderful gift of life, of His myriad of continual blessings to all created beings.
Just think of the thousands of angels uniting their voices and instruments filling all of heaven with the most glorious harmonies for just one person on this earth who has turned to Him accepting His plan of salvation. You and I could be that source of rejoicing in heaven by accepting His Love.
Here on earth we hear His gift of music in so many ways. The lovely variety of beautiful birds that fill the air with their unique vocal songs, each one identifying their special praise to their creator. How about all the animals God created with their identifying sounds that make them unique in their way of communicating to each other. Have you ever heard a singing brook as it flows its way along over rocks, dams and branches that may be in the path? What about the wind in a forest whistling through the leaves that brings a melody of God’s voice to us, or the delicate shapes, colors and perfume smells of the flowers of the fields as they sway in the breeze.
All of these sounds speak to us of the Father’s tender love for His children. What blessings of His love are all around us. Yes, it is a continued sound of music to our ears. It makes us want to give our love back to Him who first loved us.
Genesis 1:1-31 records the first six days of creation, if you haven’t read it lately, I recommend it. You will find how God spoke into existence all of the things we enjoy around us. On the sixth day was the forming of male and female from the dust of the earth and breathing into his nostrils the breath of life. Then taking Adams rib, and forming his helpmate Eve. Thus the highest form of creation was accomplished, blessed with intelligence to be able to communicate with God and each other, fashioned in the likeness and Image of God. At the crowning moment, the seventh day of creation, God rested from all His work which He had made, blessed it and sanctified it as memorial of creation for all time to rest and worship Him and He called it good. What a special gift, the Sabbath. This marked the first time all of the heavenly Angels sang Hosannas to the King of Kings for our creation. (Job 38:6,7) Thus the first sound of heavenly music was heard. Generations have come and gone since creation, are we still in tune with heavenly music?
